Get a series with Cookeville! We'll travel!

You basically read my mind. I have family in middle Tennessee so I keep up with Region 3. I have noticed that Cookeville travels...alot. DB has played far out of their region before, wouldn't be suprised if they do it again.I notice Cookeville is playing non-conference games in Week 0 and Week 5 like DB is. DB has an open week in Week 6 and Cookeville plays another non-conference game in Week 6. That said, there are atleast 3 spots for this game to potentially be booked. The only problems that could surface would be the home and home series (have to keep the 5 home/5 away schedule) and that DB plays on Thursday night in Week 0 due to its proximity to Bristol and the Bristol race. What do you know about Cookeville's timeline on contracts with Knox Central, Cleveland, and MUS running out? We'll probably be having an opening in the Week 5/Week 6 game next year. Maybe we should approach our respective Athletic Directors.

DB

Week 0 @ Tennessee High

Week 5 H Elizabethton

Week 6 OPEN

Cookeville

Week 0 @ Knox Central

Week 5 @ Cleveland

Week 6 H MUS

I'd love to see DB's schedule look as follows next year:

Week Opponent

0 Tennessee High (Tri-Cities Rivalry Game) 4A

1 William Blount 5A

2 @ Knox Bearden R 5A

3 @ Oak Ridge (Chemical Bowl Rivalry Game) 5A

4 Jefferson County R (Homecoming) 5A

5 @ Cookeville 5A

6 OPEN

7 Sevier County R 5A

8 Knox Karns R (Senior Night) 5A

9 @ Campbell County R 5A

10 @ Science Hill R (Tri-Cities Rivlary Game) 5A

Although it won't happen, it's nice to think about.

We need to stick to the 5A schools or top 10 4A. No small schools in Va. or Ky. N

I agree with you WaCo. I'd rather not cross state lines. Wins and losses become very foggy when teams do that, fans become disenfranchised too.

where did you hear elizabethton wont renew? I dont think thats true but it could be

I've heard it from various people through the grapevine and it also makes logical sense. It's hard to rebuild a program when your playing a team that usually dominates its region, especially when it should be playing on the 3A level with school population. Agreed?

Elizabethton doesn't really challenge y'all to get better either. I would have much rather have traveled to DB than to Ohio! At least when y'all give your word that you would make the return trip you would have kept it. Can NOT say that for the Ohio team! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Until Happy Valley and Bethton become one school that is........try that rumor for size.

Great thread.

D-B has the right idea and the dropping of South and Betsy will not hurt D-B in the least. The other thing that has hurt D-B recently is the weakness of their conference. Perhaps Gilligan will upgrade it but that is to be determined. BTW, I heard pretty definitively that THS was not going to renew the D-B series after '08 but is reconsidering after their freshmen buried D-B's freshmen late last year. Reclassification will also be a big factor.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
