Thoughts on the upcoming game this week?

Central must win to avoid missing playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

Can McMillan and Co. get it done at home on Senior Night?

Not only does Central have to win, but Clinton would have to win at Powell to seal the deal. West should be the better team on Friday.

Nope, that's not the case. The first tiebereaker is head to head. The following is from the TSSAA handbook on tiebreaker procedures if head to head can't be applied, as it couldn't be in a three way tie between West, Central, and Powell:

E. The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region, shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.):

1. The team with the greatest number of victories.

Using that scenario, if Powell defeats Clinton and Central defeats West, all three would be 4-3 in region play. Since Powell defeated Central and Central would have beaten West, and West beat Powell, then the head to head can't be used. Then it would go to the greatest number of victories. Given that, Powell would have 6 wins and Central and West each 5. That means that Powell would be the 3 seed and then Central would be 4, since they would have won head to head over West. West would miss the playoffs.

Of course, if West and Powell both win then West is 3rd and Powell is 4th. If Clinton beats Powell and Central beats West, Central is 3, West is 4, and Powell is out.

It's crazy, but it appears that's how it would play out, according to the handbook.

Tune in to the broadcast Friday night on AM 620 and we'll try straighten out who is in, who is out, and who is playing where in round one.

I totally forgot that their could be a three-way tie for 3rd in the region. Excellent clarification HTV!

I agree.

When you have teams like Halls, West and Central playing teams like Bearden and Farragut while Powell lines up against Campbell Co. and Karns it is not a true reflection of the teams ability. I guess West better smack Central out of the playoffs or next year line up some cupcakes to play just in case.

Of course another issue to consider, "West melted down against Halls" which could now loom a lot bigger than the loss of one game

So, the head to head smacking that Powell gave Central doesn't count, then?

Outside of Maryville and Lenoir City (obviously for different reasons), the region has been very much like the SEC East this year. Anybody can beat anybody else and anybody can lose to anybody else in a given week.

Here is the scenario of what the playoff picture will look like after this week, from the TSSAA website:

Maryville is first.

If Halls wins and West wins, Halls is second, West is third, and Powell is fourth.

If South Doyle wins and West wins, West is second, Halls is third, and Powell is fourth.

If Central wins and Powell wins, Halls is second, Powell is third, and Central is fourth.

If Halls wins, Central wins, and Clinton wins, Halls is second, Central is third, and West is fourth.

If South Doyle wins, Central wins, and Clinton wins, Central is second, Halls is third, and West is fourth.

    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
