This is my opinion and you can argue with it, but it's my opinion.

South Defense gave up long runs and 21 pts (until the field goal) in the last game. Hopefully that won't happen in this game, but it could happen again with the Barner (sp??) kid's speed and if we don't shut down the Screen Pass. But South's offense did not (I don't care what anyone says) just did not play well the entire game, and that cannot be argued. The offense is much better now, committed and determined. The South Defense has grown up. I see a 34 pt vs 21 pt advantage---South, in the end, because I don't think G'ville will stop us.

Good luck to both teams and pray for no injuries.

I won't be posting again until after the game (trip to Ohio to eat with family), unless someone makes me mad, then HeyHowsitGoing will send me an alert and I'll rush right back. I will be at the game, for sure, with my insulated scivvies, gloves, and anything else I can find to keep warm.

Go Rebels!!! Be Hungry!!! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

If you take Maryville out of the equation then Powell wins state in 03 behind Mr. Football runner up Derek Milligan (if you know football you can't question that Powell was the second best team in the state that year...like I said they had Maryville down 21-0 at one point. 04 was rough for this region and that Mo West team was pretty darn good that year you won't get an argument out of me there. In 05 Powell and Central were as good as anyone in the state. I mentioned what happened in the Powell Maryville playoff game that year and Central played them exceptionally well too. In 06 I think that Central would have made the state championship game only to be beaten by an incrediby impressive Memphis Melrose team. So how many teams have won a title in the past few years: none. If you take Maryville out of the equation then it would be at least 1 possibly 3 since 03. Now I understand that 3 in 5 years isn't Maryville like but it's still dominant. The only reason that some of those Powell and Central teams didn't win state is because of Maryville, you can't say the same about teams from upper east TN no matter how much you would like to. And if you want to delve into the past Halls has won a title. I'm pretty sure Clinton has won a state title. There have been other teams from our region win state. I'm not being a smart alleck when I ask this, I just really don't know the answer. How many NET teams have won a state title?

Lots of good stuff here in this post. I mean this is a really well put together argument. First of all your right, DB has been impressive....I won't try to attack that schools tradition because as far as I know they never backed down from anyone and always competed on a state level to some degree although at the end of the day all that matters is the trophy case (which is exactly why Powell and Central don't get any credit in Knoxville.) So I don't doubt that DB has been impressive, I just feel like since 2003, overall the knoxville area has been more impressive then the upper east tennessee area. And I suppose your right about my wording, but I do stick by my guns that everything I heard about Curt was that he was an absolutely amazing athlete with a rocket arm and I didn't see that. I saw an impressive leader with a lot of heart and a desire to carry his football team (which can take you a long way.) I did not see 4.55 speed or an overly strong arm although he did make smart decisions with the football...and thats something that you cannot teach. I'll say it again, I hope he goes to Wisconsin and sets the world on fire...I'm not here to bash an 18 year old kid and say that hes terrible or anything like that. I was simply giving my opinion of what I saw against Mo West. If what you are saying is true about the recruiting services, then maybe I am wrong about Curt. As I said, I'm basing my whole opinion of him on one game. And I can buy you sneaky fast explanation for now...but if they get to Maryville (or Red Bank would be an even better barometer of speed) we'll see if he's still running away from people.

I don't have a clue what you just said about fiction or whatever. Of course every D1 QB reads on plays he supposed to read on. Every one A junior varsity starter reads when the play calls for it. If the coach calls a give then he darn sure better give it. Not much of a read there. My question may have been a little beyond your comprehension of football. See out of the new-age spread offense teams run a play called a "read-option" which means that typically the line zone blocks (that means they don't have a man they block an area) and the QB reads the back side (that means the side away from where the running back is going) C-gap player. He'll either read the back side end or a backer coming outside, what I'm trying to say is in a true gun read option the QB is taught to read an area more then a man against most HS defenses. The QB makes the decision to give the ball to the RB or pull the ball and take it out the back side. So my question is, and hopefully 83SouthRebel can shine some light on this for me since he's the only one who seems to be well informed, on the plays in the gun when Curt sticks the ball into Fletcher's gut and then carries out a fake running it out the back side...are those plays reads or are they called gives. I never saw Curt pull it on these plays against Mo West....now I'm thinking maybe that was just because of the way that Mo West was playing, but I can't be sure without watching a film or getting some insider information.

You must be a genius. No one could understand football the way you do. You must be good at calculus also. By the way, Scott Smith over at Science Hill has a couple of books you should read.

You know what? I was legitimately interested in hearing about this match up plain and simple. I stated my opinion and I backed it up with facts. Knoxville is historically the better region, thus there is no need for a debate. You can't prove me wrong because region three is the dominant region and thats a fact that can't be disputed.

Now if you want to get in to the talk of phillips being over rated then by all means show me that I'm wrong. All i'm saying is that I saw the same game you did, and you guys wouldn't know what to do with a lot of the athletes that I have played with and against. If you think Phillips is the real deal you would have been in awe of Huber and Jackson-Garrison (both SEC players). Again, I'm sitting at a computer talking about high school football not playing in college. I respect the fact that Curt earned a D1 ride. I've said before that Big Ten schools don't just hand out scholarships loosely. But all the guys up there in ur so called "bumpkinville" have talked him up to be the best player to come out of the state in years and that's simply not true from what I saw the other night. Now, respect is earned not given. When you show me a competent view to refute mine then maybe JUST maybe I'll respect what you have to say. I think that you man have been drinking a little too much sweetwater, sir.

Now like I said I initially came on to the board to talk about the game this Friday night. Is everyone in agreement that this is gonna be a shootout or do you think that the defenses will show up? I felt like South's D was pretty good...it's hard to imagine that Greeneville is going to be able to hang a ton of points on that crew, but I don't know anything about the Devils. The spread that they run, is it a spread option style in the same style of Oregon and WVU or is it more of a spread to air it out? And also no one answered me about the South O. Is it a true read or is it a designed give or keep. I saw Curt ride and carry out a run fake but I never saw him pull it and run on those plays that looked like they might be "read option" plays. Anyone have an answer fo me on that?

Oh i remember Casson jackson wow he was the real deal and they also had zack helton and a really good receiver did zack go on somewhere to play seems like he was a good baseball player also

I said they should not be on hear talking crap when they are out, heck if any school has no right to say anything its central, an cocke co. Your right i dont care they didn't make it for the first time in 7 years. But what ticket me off was Tn High fans came onto the Greeneville board bad mouthing them an the rest of the region saying how its going to come down to Tn High an South. After all that trash talking TN High got put out in the first round by our 3rd place team. So if a team is going to come on here an talk crap at least back it up.......... do you understand that BACK IT UP ( something central has not been able to do) The only teams that can talk crap right now an back it up are West, Vol, Gville, an South.

That doesn’t even hold a candle to gettin shut out by a team that couldn’t even make it to the playoffs! The same team (by the way) that South beat 45-15 (just in case you forgot)!

If THS and South fans hadn't come on the GHS vs SE thread you would have been talking to yourself. But I'm sure that would be nothin new for you. You didn't stop runnin your mouth long enough to realize that East fans don't post on the football threads. All you are about is talkin trash...empty trash. To be honest, you haven't made one post on any thread that had anything to do with football. If I'm wrong please correct me. Here is an example.

“your right im done talking about this stuff. So what has south done to stop Greenevilles O”

Boy that was deep!!! /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I bet John Madden is scratching his head right now trying to figure out how to get you some air time on Monday Night Football!!! Let me see if I can match that question with a comparable answer.

South has practiced real hard on D to stop Greenevilles O! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> It's going to take me a minute, but I think I can get the hang of talkin this "empty trash". /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Don't know much about these schools or the rivarly since i live in East Tennessee. But i do know Chase Greenway and Curt Phillips are two great dual threat QBs. So this should be a great game. I have to root for Greenville though, because i've played baseball against Chase for years. Good Luck to both teams!

You do mean Jordan Greenway I'm sure. We lost Chase back in the summer.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
