I don't think Dist. 14AA will stand a chance. All of our (13AA) teams are hot right now. Milan has won 9 straight now?, Gibson Co. is scoring points left and right, Westview just defeated the #1 team in the state, Obion Co. is Obion Co. and stays hot year round.

Congratulations to Westview and Milan. Both do have an advantage with home court first round, but OC and GC can still pull through. It was a very entertaining night in Milan, with the first game being a classic. You cannot say enough good about the young Westview team, and Rechis is a winner. Coaching means a lot, and Westview proved it last night.

Milan stepped it up the second half, but still had too many turnovers. However, they had just enough energy and talent to pull it out, mainly because Hamm could knock down the threes. GC gave it their best, and the junk defenses had Milan frustrated the first half. It did appear that Milan got more breaks, especially the second half. GC did get some breaks the first half, so it may have evened out.

Great night of BB !!

This is to much. You know, North Side has only won 90% of their games, or put another way, they've only lost 2 games. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a team like that. Plus, I would try to refrain from using terms like "LIT IT UP" when discribing a game where both teams only averaged about 9.5 points a quarter. Lastly, This has got to be some of the funniest smack I've heard from a forth place district team in a LONG time. Keep it up, please. Your putting a smile on my face. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

I think it is quite funny that all anyone wants to talk about is NS from the other district. NS lost 4 starters from last year, only has 1 senior and is starting 3 freshmen and 1 sophomore. No one from NS has ever said they were state contenders. Coach Lowery does a tremendous job and always seems to rise to the occasion with whatever talent he gets. District 13AA is loaded and "should" win, but has it has been said numerous times on this site, "That is Why you Play the Game."

Well, tell your young ladies to not fall into the trap that some teams get caught up in. Play their own game in their own district and then see where they fall in the region. Bottom line, it doesn't matter if your first or forth in region. To win the region, you'll have to play the best. Either in the first round or second round. I don't have a horse in the 13AA or 14AA. We'll all have to make it to the state before we see either of you. For us that's 5 wins away. I just get a kick out of people making boastful statements.

I do have a question for the 13AA folks that seemed to know the refs by name. In our district, we swap refs with other districts, which means we get refs that we don't see during the season. Why don't you guys do that? It keeps prejudices or hard feelings caused by encounters during the season from effecting the outcome of games at tournament time. Just an idea. If the refs did effect the game.

To answer your question on the offiicating...I don't know. Maybe we should have different officials especailly during tournaments. That takes the bias out. But I defy anyone that can convince me that Joyner should be allowed to officiate any girls 13AA game during regular season or tournament. Especially when he has a daughter who plays for milan??? Can anyone answer that one for me.

Your right come regional time if your still standing your probably a decent team and who knows what can happen. My motto say's it all.

thug, as you are clueless to this area of basketball and go by records only, it'd be best if you stayed quiet on the subject. I remember I looked at North Sides schedule and looked at their opponents of whom they had played when they stood at 15-0. With the 15 games they had played, only 2 had a winning record! I do research before I post stuff like that. You claim it's funny that we lost and how we boast about how good we are. Duke and North Carolina get upset every year. It's apart of the game. Just because a team loses doesn't mean the other team is head and shoulders better than the team they defeated especially in a 6 point loss. Westview has not played like they did last night all year long. Milan is starting to get hot and going to be hard to beat. If Milan does make it to the 'boro I don't see anyone stopping Poston. Teams from around here are familiar with her and can contain her somewhat but if Milan makes it to state watch for Poston to go all out! Poston is the best player in 13AA and probably the best in the west!

GCFAN2 not that I disagree with you, but name me one game in the tournament where Joyner has done ANYTHING that affected the outcome. Even if he does the GC/OC game tomorrow night, and you lose what difference is it going to make? You don't know who you are going to play next and you don't know who you will be bracketed with. You must win in the region, the district means no more than a home game. In the region you will trully get to enjoy the group from Memphis, more than likely.

WV has not played like this all year my tail!!They did every thing they could do to give OC the win,3 straight turnovers in last 2 minutes. They played better against Milan overtime game at WV,DC game to lock up 4th place, and Dburg game in tournament.I know was scouting all 3 games,I told you they are gellin'!!!!They made alot more young team mistakes in the end last night. The scary thing they have nothing to lose because nobody gave 'em a chance..21,15,32,and 12 may not score much but are killin everyone on D!! If they are not to high from OC game should be a classic Championship game.Conselation game should be great also!!!!

I did not say anything about tournament play. One case in point was the Gibson County OC regular season game...not like he was calling a game that paired 2 teams from the bottom of 13AA. Ask anybody that was at that game and see what kind of response you get. I have watched basketball in this county for a long time and he has officiated several around, and certainly his fair share in 13AA. No reason he cant call games else where when 13AA plays. Thats not too much to ask. I have no problem with him calling games, but CAN YOU GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CALL ANY GIRLS GAME IN 13AA WHEN HE HAS A DAUGHTER WHO PLAYS FOR ONE OF THE TOP TEAMS IN 13AA??? I only need one good reason, beside the fact he is a good official. Never questioned his ability, only his reason for being there in the first place. I'll be waiting??

I do believe the word tournament is in there. So back up what you say and , and let's hear about the game in the tournament where Joyner has devistated someone with his officiating.

Morally, it should not be allowed. Opens to many doors (just like this board) for suspicion. He may be a good person and ref, but.......... one bad call can sometimes change the outcome of a game, and he he ever gets caught up in that position, and it looks as if it would benefit Milan, what would you expect ppl to think? What if it happened to your school?

I attended the GC OC game @ OC. First of all OC stepped up that night without their best player and defeated OC. It is difficult to win without a good player. You of all people should realize that fact , as you guys are playing w/o MS. Griffin.

After all that has happened in 13 AA you are basically saying Joyner knew the outcome of every game that has taken place, before it ever happened, and his calls @ OC that night were all planned out to put GC in this horrible spot they are in. LOL

Tell me what difference it would make to Joyner who won the OC/GC game that night or any other night.

It is no different than when M Barron or Fred Ivey from Dyer, officiates a GC game. Barron is one of the better officials around. Just because people know who Joyner is, it does nor give you a reason to bash him, because of where he is assigned. I would say you could, by name, tell me 10 other better officials than Joyner, since you go to so many games. You also probably know all the ones that do perfect games every time out.

I would take Barron and Joyner doing any game.

And like you say this has been going on for years!!! The T$$AA filed your request in file 13. If his officiating is so bad, the coaches in 13AA can request him not to do their games. Upon that request by a coach, that official will not be assigned any more games on that teams home floor. So since this has been going on for years, it is VERY evident your coaching staff (may very well be the best I have ever seen in high school) has not issued this request. Not has OC, DB, MW or any other 13AA school, except Joyner himself opting out of all Milan games.

If you have any respect for your coaching staff, you might want to follow their lead!!!

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
