Should a loss ever be blamed on the coach?

If he had been any kind of coach he would have had the poor free throw shooter fake an injury then he could have put in kyle macy to shoot them.

The players and coaches are the team. If two teams are about equal it will come down to one or two bad plays at the end, or one or two bad calls, or one or two bad decisions by a coach or a combination of the three.

I recently saw a game lost that I blamed on the coach. Team A took the lead right away and was soon stretching it to a ten point lead. Two starters on team A got two fouls each so the coach sat them. The lead stayed around 12 or 15 points till team B started to rally early in the fourth quarter. The two starters were still sitting. When team B cut the lead to 6 points the coach put the two starters back in with only 4 or 5 minutes left in the game. He was actually throwing them cold and stiff into a fire where team B was fired up and running wild. Team B won by five points. Now I couldn't prove it in a court of law, but to me the coach lost that game.

But yes coaches are human so I try not to give them any static. I couldn't coach any better than 90% of them, just like I couldn't referee any better than 50% of the refs, /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> .

Not gonna argue with your reasoning, coach. But you missed one point. You are assuming that all coaches prepare the same. "Scout team defense or offense that the starters practiced against" are you serious? Sounds like you take your job serious by having scout teams, by having film sessions, make adjustments during the game...I bet you would even practice on the weekend before a big game on Monday. Don't be so naive, coach. Not all coaches prepare the way you do.

Not all. But when a coach who doesn't prepare loses to one who does, you can be sure that he deserves a good share of the blame.

Most coaches have their starters practice against the reserves, who are running the upcoming opponents' offense and defense. That's the "scout team".

Not all coaches prepare that way. Just the good ones.

Very true.

I have seen games where coaches lose a game Ive even heard them say so, but he or she is human. They don't always make the right call , defensive or offensive . But a good coach will put his team in the best postion to win with the talent and opprotunity that exist at that paticular time. Now sometimes he makes a mistake and looses a game.(thats his fault even tho he didn't mean to) When a player or team fail to execute thats their fault (even tho they didn't mean to and be sure you don't tell us parents that) either way its a team effort with both trying to do their best most of the time. If a coach makes too many bad decisions most of time he won't last long.

A coaches job is to place his or her team in the best possible position to win. This means properly preparing the team mentally, physically, and emotionally. If he or she has done this, and the team loses, it is simply what you said, someone has to lose. If he or she has not, the coach should be blamed.

Very rarely, if ever, should a player be blamed for a loss.

There are very rarely ever bad followers, but very often bad leaders.

As far as the refs, I have seen games where the refs decided the outcome. HOWEVER, it is a fact of life, and sports, that refs are going to mess up so you have to have your team in position as a coach to overcome bad calls and still be able to succeed.

When all else fails, remember it is a game and it is supposed to be about the kids. Not the moms and dads, not the coach that wants 25 wins a year to put on a resume (you know who you are), and it is not about gold and blue balls; It is about the kids. If you do not believe, ASK JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
