The old gym doesn't and the new one isn't ready yet. The last substate game at Rutledge was the 98 Girls' vs. South Greene...it was like packing sardines in a can.

kevb-last night was great! even though I'm a bulldog, the Pioneers did it again. Let's see, last year they came into the tournament in 6th place, and this year in 4th but still took the district championship. Rivals won't have opportunity to top that since there won't be a Pioneer team from Rutledge ever again, at least not from Rutledge High School since it's disappearing and grainger high school is appearing. As usual, both teams drew 2 of the sorriest officials in the state to call a game so important to both schools. They had the "Muscleman" and the "Teletubby", and both did their usual sorry job of bad calls and just downright blind officiating. Fouls that didn't happen, walks that were simply normal shots, just the usual garbage everyone has been getting all year. When is something going to be done about incompetence on the courts? We all get the same old inept officials week after week. A GREAT BIG THANKS TO ALL THOSE OFFICIALS IN OUR DISTRICT WHO DO THEIR BEST AND DO A GOOD JOB. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!. tO the rest, go back to primary basketball and learn your way up to high school. i hate to name officials, but sometimes you just can't help it. Great job Pigeon Forge and Rutledge for showing us a fantastic game. Congratulations to both teams of a hard fought tournament! by the way, there are two nice gyms in claiborne county that aren't being used for a few months, and i'm sure they would love to have another one of the region games so there will be more room. but on the other hand if anyone doesn't want to sit in the small gym at rutledge, they have to option to stay home. at least rutledge went far enough to get to host a region game - something others in the district missed out on AGAIN!

I wonder where they would play if they get the opportunity. PF played one at Morristown West and two at Sevier Co. obviously they would not go to Sevier, but I could see one of the Morristown Schools as a possibility. I think it is a shame they can't host, I think it definately cost PF one trip to state and maybe two.

I think Union County and Rutledge both have a great chance to see each other in the regional semifinals. However, Pigeon Forge will have a tough game with Elizabethton and unfortunate G-P has to travel to classless Unicoi Co. I still think that all four could possibly win but I see three at the most making it to the next round!

classless unicoi county?????? don't know about that.

union will have a hard time traveling up to johnson county and coming away with a win. that is a hard place to go to and win.

i think that 3 teams from district 1 will advance but, we will see come saturday night?

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
    • Freedom Prep has discontinued their football program. These are the teams that were on their schedule in case you are looking for a game:
