The Lebanon game featured a no hitter by Cody Ferrell and the invoking of a stupid rule giving him only 2 warmup pitches before an inning because the Lebanon catcher made the 3rd out and the backup catcher was in the bullpen. The ump said there's a 90 second limit. If true, this rule needs examining, because these are kids' arms we're talking about. That inning, 2 walks and 2 wild pitches allowed the White County run. This decision may have cost Cody a perfect game.

Reportedly, this is the same ump who called a Cookeville player out last year for stepping out of the batter's box between innings. IMHO, two stupid rules that do nothing to improve the game or add to its safety.

We all know what happened, and that is all that counts. Let's continue to keep the way it has been this year, and let the others speculate.

David any particulars on the Riverdale/WC and Oakland/ Blackman games?

Riverdale - Warren Co was a great pitching duel between Hurt and Mullins. It was a one and and 30 minute game as both pitchers threw strikes and worked quick. Riverdale pushed a run across in the middle innings and held on. Pioneers had a runner on 3rd and 1 out later in the game but get him in. RHS SS Watson made a great catch off a pop up in short center field and the Warren Co CF made a great diving catch... A fun game to watch.

My phone-in-folks at Oakland said the Blackman Oakland game was an 'instant-classic'. Wilson of Oakland had a no-hitter into the 5th and Oakland had 2nd and 3rd and 1 out in the bottom of the 8th but couldn't get the winning run across the plate.

siegel lost a heart-breaker as well, giving up 2 in the bottom of the 6th to lose 3-2.

It sounds like White Co struggled against Lebanon's starting pitcher....

A great opening day of 7-AAA Baseball!!! The rest of the season should be as much fun in what looks to be a balanced district and anyone's for the taking.....

Everyone says that Lebanon's backup catcher is better than the starter. What gives?

Actually the rule states that a pitcher shall have 60 seconds or 5 pitches to begin every inning. If pitcher and catcher hustle out, I usually let them have an extra pitch, especially if it's a cooler night.

Rule also states that batter must keep foot in the box to take a signal unless he was forced out of the box by the previous pitch (i.e., he hit the ball, he had to get out of the way of a pitch, a passed ball/wild pitch with a play at the plate, etc.). If batter steps further out of the box, it's a called strike. This is the same rule that is used all the way through college ball, and maybe even the minor leagues - haven't been to a Sounds game in quite some time. Umpire shouldn't have called him out unless it would have been the third strike.
