I don't see David Brainerd moving to Division II if the others such as Temple, Grace, don't as well. There could be a six or seven team Chattanooga region in every sport if they all moved-DB, Grace, Temple, Boyd-Buchanan, Chattanooga Christian, Silverdale and possibly Hamilton Heights in a couple more years-but as of now DB would have no Division II region opponents in the area.

If you remember Goodpasture was also in D2 and got back in D1 ASAP. I have not heard of any D1 schools that want to play football in the upper division of D2.

That is a completely inaccurate and false statement. Goodpasture has never been a part of D2. They've played 2A football before the split and after. There was a ton of talk that they weren't moving to 3A like Lipscomb was with the multiplier.

They came back to 2a with aid players....namely Shaka Hill.

Would you like to take back your statement? You may be the one that is wrong!

I do not think anyone every really said how Goodpasture handled their return to DI with players who had originaaly been on Financial aid. I assume they were simply no longer granted that aid money but I remember that it was a hot topic at the time.

As for schools moving to Div. II I keep hearing that FRA is mulling it over.

I have been told that the players on financial aid were grandfathered in and allowed to continue to keep their financial aid but no new players were allowed financial aid.

IMO, there are no teams (public or private) in D1 that want to play football in the highest classification of D2.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
