preach on Grizman. LOL I'm not going to say my prediction but I do think it will come from east of the Mississipppi River and west of the Kentucky Lake. I agree that I really don't think that east tennessee teams can hang with the two teams from west tenn. I know that JCS's record isn't the best out of these teams, but you also have to look at who they've played. There aren't very many teams in 1A on the Eagles' schedule. Can that be said for others teams? I can't say for sure, but I doubt it. If anybody would care to enlighten me, please do so.

Heard the same smack last year outta West TN and then saw JCS run-ruled by FCS in the finals and Huntingdon leaving the boro with their tail dragging as well. Hope you show up with better pitching than what we saw from West TN 1A's last year. Summertown, Richland, LV, and FC are for real and have played and beaten some of the big AA and AAA programs in their areas as well. Keep talking the smack and you'll leave the Boro disappointed---again. This tournament is about solid hitting and depth in your pitching staff. Fall into the losers bracket and you better have 4 or 5 top pitchers.

you all are acting like that is rare for these schools to have so few students... that is why they are in single a because of student population I think most single a schools have less than 500 kids

I DON'T THINK IT TAKES A GENIUS TO KNOW THIS, BUT WHAT IS THE ENROLLMENT AT THE OTHER SCHOOLS AT STATE. THERE MAY BE SOME SMALLER, BUT I DOUBT IT.

Huntingdon hasn't been running there mouth but before you spout off about them leaving with their tail dragging, remember that they were the only ones to beat Friendship Christian at the state tournament and that game was a run rule and beat Richland last year. And I am pretty sure JCS set state records on that LV team you are talking about. So if you are a Friendship Christian fan you can crow a little, but I wouldn't bring up the past and put the rest of those schools with FC.

After LV beat JCS 3 to 1 JCS came back the next day on fire. I will be the first to tell you we could do anything right and JCS couldn't do any wrong. Hats off to them! I hope every LV player remembers that day. Now to this Year.

River, that was a weird day last May. I got to wishing it would end before it did, that JCS could save a little for Friday. But we know how that turned out.

Good luck.

That is exactly my point! Private schools can get kids that public schools cant get. You pay your way to a school where you can play! And as for bad schools, crime rates, etc.....at least you have a private school to go to. There are no private schools in roane county. Rockwood and Harriman are not havens of low crime rates! At one time, Roane County had one of the highest rates per capita of unsolved murders in the nation! They have their share of druggies, rednecks, racists, dropouts and deadbeats just as ALL public schools have. The difference between ppl like you and small town citizens is that they cant afford to send their kids off to private schools! They have to take their chances in the public systems!

Also, I never mentioned the word recruiting! Why is it whenever this debate starts that private school proponents started yelling we dont recruit? I NEVER MENTIONED THE R WORD! And I dont think you recruit. No one said you did. But I am also an old travel ball coach and I know for a fact that many players that I coached over the years went to private schools because of athletics! That is a fact. I know of numerous parents that came together in travel ball and because they had the financial resources sent their kids to the same private schools in order to have good teams. I know coaches that have been offered more money than teachers are paid just to go coach at private schools! A couple actually took the offers. I also know a VERY successful high school coach (with more than one state championship on his resume) that was offered a coaching job at a local private school and a doctor there was going to pay him the same amount that the school was going to pay...basically double salary. But he had the decency to turn it down. I am not saying you guys do things like that, but I know ones that have! In east tn some of the best athletic facilities are on the campus of private schools. Lots of players that have the funds go to those schools. Public schools dont have the funds to build them.

Also, why do so many private schools win so many state championships in different sports....especially at the smaller school levels???? Is it just a freak occurence of nature? HARDLY!!! Dont play the hard work card either! Public school kids work just as hard as the privates do. What an elitist statement to make. So kids and parents at private schools are just harder workers? That takes the cake! I believe that private school parents say stupid statements like that to try to make themselves feel better because they know what a big and unfair advantage they have over the small public schools! I have noticed that the public/private debate is hardly a factor when you are talking about the larger schools. The large schools have enough kids that they can overcome the stacked talent you find on privates. So they can compete with them. Its the small schools that have an unfair disadvantage.

One more thing, dont ever play the "I am paying for what you are getting free" card!!! That is the dumbest statement ever made on coacht!!! NO ONE IS MAKING YOU PAY!! That is purely voluntary on your part!! If some one forced you to send your kids to private school then I would have sympathy for you! I didnt have the funds to send my kids or grandkids to private school so dont go bellyaching over the fact that you have to pay....its TOTALLY your choice! I thank god you have the resources to do it. Most of us dont!

The bottom line is no matter how you want to frame it, private schools have an unfair advantage over public schools! Whether its facilities, academics, coaching, or anything else. Publics arent on equal footing!

You said, "Publics arent on equal footing" You know why.......we've lost control of our government. It's gone socialist for the most part. We don't have any say anymore in what happens in our schools and with the money spent. Too many free hand outs and dumbing down of our kids have produced the mess our state funded schools are in. When we were at Liberty the baseball booster club had to raise the money for the girls softball field lights as well as their own and then install it for them.....Why is that? Well...glad you asked......Title 9. Enough said!!!!!

Yeah....I gladly choose to send my son to private school. I will sell aluminum cans if I have to to do so.....and I will still keep on paying taxes to support public schools......I have no choice.

I'm old enough to remember prayer in public schools. I'm also old enough to remember the bible being read in public schools. I'm thankful for a school that you can hear a prayer before the national anthem at a baseball game. Yeah....we may have to pay for that priviledge, but it's well worth it.

An old preacher from Mississippi told me one time, "Son....you have what you have because that's what you want."

I said all that to say this......there's just a little more to it than an unfair advantage. People go the private route for the same reason folks jump out of a sinking ship.

And by the way.....I'm not "playing" any cards here.

God bless public and private schools and may the best team win.

Back to the subject.......I can wait to see some of the other teams from across the state that I've heard so much about but haven't seen yet. Good luck to all!!!!!

I don't think that any of this is really smack. It's all conjecture that I hope to see revealed on the field. I do have one apology to make, though. I would like to apologize to Ronnie Carter. I have been educated in his job and those around him calling the shots. I now realize that it is the board of control that is a bunch of meatheads. Mr. Carter, I am sorry for that. I also have a request of all. Please drop the public vs. private battle.

So we should teach our kids to run from adversity and problems. That is the mindset that is ruining our school systems, states, and country. Jesus hung out with the drunkards and outcasts of society. He came to save sinners, "like me". To be a light in the darkness. That is what he calls us to be.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
