Notre Dame's Kris Cambron Signs Soccer Scholarship With Tennessee Tech

posted February 9, 2009

Notre Dame forward Kris Cambron has signed a soccer scholarship with Tennessee Tech University. She signed with the Ohio Valley Conference School, coached by Becky Fletcher.

Cambron was a 2-time Coaches and Tennessee Sportswriters All State First Team Pick, 2006 Best of Preps 2nd team pick, 2007 Best of Preps 1st team pick, and was named the 2008 Best of Preps Player of the Year. On her Notre Dame team, she was named the 2005 Midfielder of the Year, 2006 and 2007 Forward of the Year, and was named the team MVP in 2008. Notre Dame is coached by Jim Schermerhorn and assisted by David Weikel. During her four years at Notre Dame, she started and played in every game, and the team was a State A/AA Semi-Finalist all four years.

Kris is also a 9-year member of the East Ridge Express 91 Soccer Team, which is one of the top select soccer teams in the region. Cambron plays on the Express team with fellow Notre Dame students Darcy Brannen (a Lee University signee), Shannon Kelly, and Megan Phipps. Other Notre Dame players who have previously played on this Express team include Danielle Ciabattone, Christina Pagnani, Carey Leiper, and Casey Finnell. The Express team also has players from Baylor, GPS, Soddy Daisy, and other players from Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis. At least 10 Express players have signed or are expected to sign to play soccer in college.

Express is coached by Lee University soccer coach Matt Yelton. Lee was the 2008 NAIA National Champion in women's soccer.

As a member of Express 91, Cambron was chosen to be part of the TN 91 ODP State Team. ODP is a program that brings together the top players from the state into one team.

Kris is the daughter of Don and Cheryl Cambron and has 3 brothers, Matt, Andrew, and Will.

Megan Buzzeo (5'9", GK, Knoxville, Tenn.): Buzzeo comes to UT Martin from Farragut High School, where she was a four-time all-district mention for coach Dennis Lindsay. Buzzeo also earned all-region distinction twice in her career at Farragut, and was an all-state honoree her senior season - a season in which she set a new school record with 15 consecutive shutouts. Buzzeo was in goal to lead the Admirals to district and regional championships her freshman and sophomore seasons.

"It's great to bring in a Tennessee goalkeeper with her ability level," Roberts said. "She will add to the competiveness for the starting position."

Kendyl Wilson (5'6", MF, Moscow, Tenn.): Wilson attended Collierville High School in Collierville, Tenn., where she lettered under coach Bill Gillespie. Wilson led Collierville to divisional, sectional, and regional championships, and helped the team to TSSAA state finalist berths in 2006 and 2007. Wilson was named to the All-Metro Best of Preps list and was also named MVP of the Ohio Showcase. Wilson was a member of the 91 Lady Lobos club team which competed amongst the nation's finest players in tournaments throughout the country.

"Kendyl comes from a well-coached Tennessee team," Roberts said. "She is a very talented midfield player with super speed and she will give us another dimension on the outside of midfield that we have not had in the past."

    • Eagleville hosting shows laziness on the part of the TSSAA and a complete disregard for the appearance of impartiality. Absolutely nothing against EHS. Its not their fault TSSAA is lazy.    I understand EHS staff work the games at Eagleville, and they don’t want to miss the EHS games. However this isn’t rocket science. It would take less than 1 hour to cross-train EHS and RHS volunteers at the opposite sites. If Eagleville (or any host)  makes the tournament, flip their game site and have the volunteers flip sites for the days their school plays at the opposite site. Magically the school’s fans would be present to watch the their kids play and the kids at least lose some familiarity and home field advantage.  It takes almost no effort and is a ~15 minute extra drive.
    • We feel the pain!
    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
