I think he was talking about great players. Great players go on and play D1. Good players go on and play D2 and anyone that is half way a player can play at some of the smaller colleges.

I know what he was talking about. It's subjective and that's fine. I'm not that familiar with your stance on what constitutes a "good" or "great" player. I've seen some great players that have made great contributions to a team and didn't go D1 for one reason or another. I've seen others play in college that didn't even start.

If a player has to go D1 to be considered a great player in this area, then you can write out every team in Northeast TN. DB has a few every now and then, other schools around here get a lineman about every 3 or 4 years.

I think Tennessee High has had some good players but not great players in the past few years. How many of them have gone on to play D1 except Bart. I think the problem is that most parents THINK that their sons are great players, and they may be in their own back yard but when you compare them to players outside out region they are just average players. Thats why we can't play out of this region most of the time. If you want to see great players you need to go to some of the games in Georgia where they have 5-7 players who are going to D1 schools.

Once again if his statement relates to players going D1 than a lot of teams would be in the same boat. Tennessee can do fine in this area.

There are a variety of reasons why Tennessee can't play out of region, talent is a portion of it. Cap and I have stated some other reasons, but people dismiss it.

We are 3-0 in the conference and tied for first. I think that in the end we might end up at best second or third. With all the injuries we have had this year that is nothing to hang our heads about. We need to stop bashing the coaches and realize that maybe this year we just do not have the players on the field that need to be there because of injuries. We are not a great team this year and we are struggling to even be a good team. Some years are like that.

Your certainly right about what you said in your first three sentences. And I commend the players and coaches for being able to face this adversity. However, the next time THS has a good or halfway decent team and loses 35-0 in the playoffs because they continuously run on 3rd and long and refuse to throw forward passes, then you can give my praises to the coaches.

After getting caught up in all the message board scene a couple of years ago, I saw not only how involved our fans were getting with them, but also our players and how they were getting caught up in the whole mess and how it affected them, so I stopped. Didn't even look at Coach T last year. One day last week I decided to log on and see what was going on. What I see on here is the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good....The passion of Tennessee High Football fans. The opportunity to voice an opinion.

The bad....The slamming and tearing down of one another. Remember, we are on the same team and we are all entitled to our opinion.

The ugly...Telling our kids they are horrible. Folks these kids read this stuff.

Before I go further let me make one thing very clear. I do my talking on Friday nights. I'm easy to find and easy to hear. Any one listening will know who I am pulling for. I have a unique perspective on this program. I am not a coach but I have a connection to them. I do not have a kid on the team but I know many of them and their parents. I will use the term "our kids" a lot during this post, because they are our kids. I know the coaches, players, and parents and see and hear all of their frustrations and concerns.

The coaches and players are doing the best they can with the hand they are dealt with for this season. This team has resembled the occupants of a M*A*S*H unit almost as much as it has a football squad. But that is this sport we all know and love called football. It's part of the game and sometimes you have to put a player in a position in order to have a player in that position. The coaches do a pretty good job of that and the kids that have been asked to step up have done so to the best of their ability. If a kid is not playing in a particular spot or not playing at all, there is a reason or reasons why. As parents and fans we don't always have unclouded judgment.

Year after year in high school ball the kids coming through change. No class is the same as the one before it. Some are more special than others. Tennessee High has had some great teams for this area, for this school. There is a difference in the talent pool at Tennessee High vs. other schools in the state or any other state for that matter. There is not a lot of of D-1 talent walking around the halls of THS, because D-1 means more than talent in football it also means size and speed. We do not posess those D-1 qualities and that is not a slap at our kids it is simply a matter of fact. If you don't think so, go to a college game of any classification and get as close to the field as you can. You will see the difference I am talking about. To do what our kids and coaches have done durring the Greg Stubbs era is a testament to their heart and their work ethic. Our kids work hard and and our coaches work hard to get the most out of them that they can.

All that being said I don't always agree with the play calling and at times this year it has seemed like we had a great game plan during the first half but then for some reason or another got away from it in the second half. Coach Stubbs is not a razzle dazzle coach but he can be creative. It makes my job easier and more exciting when he is. His philosophy is to run the football and pass off of that. I do think we need to mix it up a little more and spread the ball around if nothing else than to make the defense guess and to give Keenan a break. He is a special back and a play maker but I do worry that we are going to wear him out before the season is over with. I think we do have some other play makers that can help us be successful, it is up to them to show the coaches they can do it. You know the old addage, you play the way you practice? I hope any would be play makers are giving it their all in practice. Also, the coaches can't play the game the kids do and we have been eaten up by penalties at times this year. Our kids have to fix that. When push comes to shove I can tell you time after time that Coach Stubbs has taken the blame for any coaching miscues.

Now, a challenge to the fans. Let's be positive for these kids. They are after all the ones playing the game and the very reason we are in attendance on Friday night. Let's be supportive of them, win or lose. Let's use some of the same passion I see posted on these boards to cheer our lungs out on a Friday night. I look out from my spot in the press box and I see very little fan enthusiasm. Game in and game out from D-B to this past Friday night the fans in the opposing stands have put us to shame. They have been louder than we have been. They have been up on their feet most of the time and they have really gotten into the game. Fans from other schools are blasting us on these boards for being church mouse quiet at game time! They are calling the Stone Castle a funeral home! As fans, where is our Viking Pride? LETS GET BEHIND OUR KIDS & COACHES!!!! LETS BE THE 12th MAN!!! LET'S HELP THE COACHES FIRE THEM UP AND KEEP THEM PUMPED DURING BALL GAMES!!! YOU WANT TO SEE SOME FIRE...BRING SOME FIRE!!! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! YOU WANT TO SEE EXCITING FOOTBALL PLAYED WITH ENTHUSIASM? SHOW YOUR ENTHUSIASM IN A POSATIVE MANNER AND I PROMISE YOU THE KIDS WILL PLAY WITH ENTHUSIASM! Years from now our kids may or may not be state champs but they will remember the support of the crowd and the excitement of playing in the Stone Castle on a Friday night.

We are 4 - 2 at this juncture and 3 - 0 in the conference. While it hasn't always been pretty, it could be a lot worse just ask the teams that aren't even sniffing the playoffs. We've got four big games left in the regular season. Let's all get behind our kids and our coaches and see what they can do.

VV, well said. By the way, you have done a great job over the years. I am similar to you in that I have been involved in this message board scene in the past and got away from it for the same reasons you expressed. Yes, I have hated seeing the bad and the ugly part also. And so I quit coming around here for a while--and then I sit in The Castle on a football friday night and watch with utter amazement us darn near give the game away in the second half. Call me a hypocrite if you like for agreeing with all the positive stuff you just said and then bringing the obvious up again but----.

After getting caught up in all the message board scene a couple of years ago, I saw not only how involved our fans were getting with them, but also our players and how they were getting caught up in the whole mess and how it affected them, so I stopped. Thanks Cap and Vikingfan. I get to have a lot of fun on Friday nights because of our kids. The players, coaches and their families I have gotten to know over the seven seasons I have done this mean a whole lot to me. I'll keep doin' what I do, all you Viking Fans out their keep cheering our kids on. They can't hear me while they are on the field, but they can hear you. Rember cheers and encouragement are loud. Silence is deafening.

P.S. Cap tune in in about 45 minutes and you'll have the answer to your question.

Hey guys...I have not been on for a couple of weeks. However, after reading all of these long and tear jerking love letters, I see that it has obviously been an interesting week. After a brief process of thought, I believe I have the answers:

a) gather all players, parents, coaches, Grand Mothers, Grand Dads, former Viking players, school psychologist, and any one else that fits in the loop...

once every one has gathered you should have just one great big group hug. Perhaps you should also call the newspaper to capture this Kodak

moment.

/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> contact Dr Phil to bring be there for those whom have been emotionall scared for life by the mere push of a button.

c) identify the mentally unstable ones off the field and place them in the appropriate care....

d) after you are sure everyone in attendance is mentally sound, validate some game rules that I will impose upon you

1.) all coaches must wear ear plugs instead of headsets thus eliminating the possibility of fan noise harming their ears.

2.) escort coaches to press box and line up all individuals stated above to give coaches individual hugs an a bon-bon

3.) All players remove their football uniforms and replace them with clean white soccer uniforms...Austrailian SILK!!!

4.) Players must not touch the ground... These uniforms cost a lot of money.

5.) The scoreboard must be turned off (no winners)...there are already to many emotionally scared instances. Dr. Phil cost a lot of money.

6.) In the visitors locker room...a wide screen will be supplied for fans to watch movie The Bridges of Madison County..If in fact you can get

a copy.... I understand the coaches have rented all copies. Nevertheless, Out of Africa is still available.

7.) after the festivities end there will be hot green tea for those that were not overly stressed, for those who just couldn't bare the mental

and emotional torture, Dr. Phil will still be around.

8.) Get the game started, but first, and I for got, we must get the cheerleaders. Remember, no one touches the ground. Got to get the

girls involved.

9.) Game must last no longer then 20 mins, give or take depending on the weather conditions.

10.) All games must end with a final group hug. Don't forget to get the coaches....The Bridges of Madison County can turn one into an emotional

wreck... the hug will be paramount for these guys.

11.) I wanted to stop at #10, however, I forgot to implement one last thing, the ball must be yellow...yellow is a vey calming color!!

Rule for Friday night: coaches must wear pink, all fans that yell at a coach dressed in pink will be immediately escorted from the field by bearslayer .

Sounds like somebody's little baby boy isn't getting the ball enough. I wish some of you would apply for the coaches jobs. I guarantee you aren't qualified to coach at one of the elementary schools Cap. You wonder why your son(not the current viking) feels like the world owes him something. Its you big boy. You've blown smoke up his butt all his life telling him how great he is and now when its nut crunching time he transfers from a winning program thinking he can play D1. Think about it for one minute. Have you ever gotten along with a coach here. Not Burns. Not Witcher. Not Stubbs. Not Pitts.(King College). When you can't get along with anybody its time to look in the mirror. We're just lucky that your current player is more down to earth than you are.

Get off of the coaches until you prove you can do better.

Hey BS??¦check out the spot they did on Bucs basketball yesterday on News Channel 11 Sports (tricities.com.). You may just see somebody that looks familiar??¦in the back ground??¦PRACTICING. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I think our boys will go in there and take care of buisness. Longhorns can say that the loss of Prudhomme won't hurt them but I don't really they notice all of the small things he did for that team. It really is a terrible situation for him with this being his senior year and his last chance to play a THS team that they enjoy playing as do we enjoy playing them. I wish him all of the best and hopefully he will have a speedy revovery. But back to the game tomorrow night. I think JC will come out swinging because they know this game has huge implications on the playoff race. They are going to play with everything they have in the first quarter to try and show that losing Prudhomme didn't affect them that much. But as the game progresses into the second half, THS will be too much for them to handle depth wise and there D will be worn out. My prediction is: THS-28 JC-14. Good luck to both!! Lets make this one to remember since it will be the last and lets keep everyone healthy!! GO VIKES!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
