Sponsored or not, they are still going to have to meet the academic guidelines which is not going to be for everyone.

Well said and I will add this. If anyone out there in modern day of "Atheletics First" has false ambitions that

the academic integrity of this school will be sacrificed just to win a few ball games...has no idea what they are talking about or has never met the Leadership or Board.

Even sitting with our own......I tire of all the talk of "offering scholarships". It is "need-based financial aid" people (just like the earlier guy said). To make an atheltic impact at this school, you will have to meet all of the following.

1) Be a great athelete

2) Have a personal financial situation that qualifies you

3) Maintain appropriate grades at one of the top College Prep schools in the state (and trust me people......that alone is a full time job).

4) Be willing to attend a school where your "off campus" behavior can get you kicked out as easily as your "on".

I am sure there are a few within driving distance out there that will join and make an impact, yet I do not see a mass exodus as people have proposed.

Oh, I think the current crop of 8th graders is going to turn it around just fine. 132-0 in first 3 games and

current 9th graders as 8th graders last year had a great year. Combined with current sophomore quarterback, football team has a pretty good outlook in a couple years.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see how many new players we see coming in over the next few years.

I wouldnt get too excited about middle school results.Ive talked to several who have seen this usj 8th grade team and to a man they say they arent nearly as good as the one from 3 years ago.You have to understand that ms football is well coached at usj and practically ignored at most of their opponents schools. Those from 3 years ago are now juniors and there are several great athletes on that team. But the fact that you can throw past virtually nonexistant middle school pass defences does not translate into a great high school team. Each person who had seen both groups says the same, the class from 3

years ago is much better and this years opponents are much weaker.

And what would the reason for that be...........Could it be that USJ middle plays inividual middle schools throughout the county? As the same group of kids get older and play together in High School, they end up facing a conglomeration of all those Middle schools they played a few years back????

Guess we will see tomorrow night when Lexington comes to town. Have heard they have a good team and will be a test. Also heard today that Lexington Middle and Caywood Middle have combined to make this team.

Baller makes a valid point, but thank goodness it will be a mute one after this year !

I went to the game (and promise you, I was not chasing girls /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> ) Lexington won by 14.

They were big and stuffed USJ at the line almost every time. We did not look like the same team I saw two weeks ago. Hopefully they can dust themselves off and have a good rest of the year. Lexington has a quality team.
