Single A Double A I could care less. It's a rivalry game. Classifications mean nothing. As far as us going 0-10, it may very well happen. Don't even compare schedules. And yes It's difficult to go watch these boys play hard every week and lose and then have to read comments about it every time there is something posted about Obion Central. And if you'll go back and read through this thread you'll see where I got that they were gonna run wild.

The first two passes Yeager threw were incomplete to two wide open receivers..They weren't long downfield passes but they were two that would have gotten big chunks of yards had they been completed...He had another one, could've been Haskins, they changed up alot, that would have been a TD to Minnick late in the game but was overthrown...I think the main thing was UC's pass rush..They got great push and caused the OC QB's into some bad decisions...The Rebels do look better than last season...They played harder in this game this season than at the same time last season...

I keep hearing this may be the last time these two teams play for awhile...I said even back when Steven and Matt were playing that other than the gate this was a lose/lose situation for OC especially when UC dropped to 1A...I hope they continue to play but I guess we will see...

Yeah I heard the same thing about this may be the last time they play for a while. I would hate to see it since it is not so one-sided anymore But I do think it is not as exciting anymore. It's just kind of ho-hum now. Watching the game tonight brought back some old memories of the veer. You just about knew what was coming before it happened.

Union City 19

Obion County 6

The first half of the game, Union City had two other opportunities to score inside the 25 yard line of Obion but couldn't do anything. Union City also had the ball on the 4 yard line at one time in the second half and miised a fieldgoal.

Give both defenses credit, one crossed out the other keeping both offenses in check.

First Half - Union City 7

Obion 6

Secoond half, Union City made adjustments well and came out and played good old fashion "Smash Mouth " Football. Obion Count couldn't stop the Union City running up the middle.

With some, kinda like "Home Cookin" with the refs, Union City overcame two time where this could have played a different role in the outcome of the game, but Union City team stepped up.

Union City did loose their best back for tonight in #80 Sanderson....Broken arm and ended up with just over 100 yards.

Union City had right at 300 yards total offense where I think the Rebels was around 160 total for the night.

I find it hard to believe the Rebels came back on the Lone Oak Ky Game, they must have had their second string in the game or something. If Lone Oak was like that Union City might have could ahve one a game like that.

I wasn't all that impressed with Obions passing attack at all.

I listened to their coach on "Count Down To Kick Off" and he noted he closed the practices this past week....for what!! You are 0 - 4 and this isn't college football or the Pros. Now, he is 0 - 5 and looks like he is coaching the Rebels to another 0 - 10 season.

I will also say this, Obion lead tonight....6 - 0 and might have been the first time they lead a football game in over a year in a half or longer. Kinda strange!!

I was telling someone, that by doing things like "Closing Practices, not scrimaging anyone or any contact in practice prior to the season is a little different and he has nothing to show for it.

I along with many other Union City AND Obion County fans wants the Rebels to win....if for anyone...the kids.

So good luck from here on out this year Rebels, keep working hard and maybe someday this hard work will pay off for everyone, it just doesn't seem to be happening this year.

OC defense did look better and their defense game plan was right. They eliminated the QB as a threat. What killed them was that for the 2nd week in a row the passes were off target. Yes it was partially due to UC pass rush, but Yeager was off bad. Throwing to an open corner of the end zone when all the receivers were in the middle, overthrowing in the end zone and also overthrew Haskins breaking to the end zone on the other end. Yeager is a good kid and has potential, but I think the years he didn't play may be catching up to him.

Shame about the Sanderson kid. He played hard all night.

About the OC offense and the Lone Oak game. You weren't there. I was. There was no 2nd string in the game period until the last 3 minutes. And I'm pretty sure Coach Jackson doesn't care whaether you are impressed or not. But implying closed practices had anything to do with tonight's game is hilarious. No relationship there.

I am curious though, where do you come up with there being any home cooking last night? That's even more ridiculous! Congratulations to the UC team on the win.

I personally don't think the 2 teams will see much of each other again. There's no money in it, and with the projected changes in format, probably won't be any room for it in the OC schedule. I believe basketball and baseball will follow suit.

The best thing to come out of this game was the emergence of the UC secondary.....The worst thing was losing Luke Sanderson with a broken arm for the season...Everyone needs to keep this young man in their prayers..This senior was having maybe his best game ever..He was THE main cog in the game until he was injured....Good to see sophomore Trey Maddox come in for Luke and get the long TD run..This kid is tough as nails and maybe only 5'4"..Trey is the nose guard on defense..Tonight was a very, very vanilla gameplan heavy on Smash Mouth and very light on finesse...I thought the Rebels got into Speed's head early in the game and caused alot of the hand-offs instead of him pulling the football out and running...Bottom line is UC did the things it takes to win even though it wasn't a blow-out by any means..This was probably OC's best chance at a win...As funny as it sounds the Covington game may be the only other chance...UC goes to Bruceton next Friday and should have redemption on their minds as Bruceton has beaten the Tornadoes the last two years....UC ends the first half of the season at 4-1 with only region games from here on out until the end of the regular season....I didn't see a defensive struggle in this one but was glad to see the UC "D" step up tonite....19-6 Union City...

That's surprising news...If it's true it's great news...

Coach Bowlin is very discipined and stays with his game plan. OC did not get in Speed's head rather UC is learning every game to play as a team and show balance. UC took what was there with OC keying on Speed every play their weakness was fullback up the middle and UC exploited that. Very good coaching and very good execution of the veer offense.

jumpingjack....

I know very well what Bowling was doing and what kind of coach he is..My son played for him(started for three and played center his last two years)four years and I saw him coach roughly 42 games...First off,the strategy OC employed at the first of the game by hitting him, knocking him down actually three or four times after he had handed the ball off rattled him...He had not seen that this year...No doubt about it...He was skittish after that..Again he was losing the football by not securing it....In his(Bowling's)offense the "S" back or fullback (Sanderson for the majority of the night)really never knows for sure if he is going to get the ball on the handoff..Speed makes that call with his read...Everytime,or almost everytime Speed made the decision to hand the ball off...JustaOCfan is right,OC throttled him for the most part..I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson hasn't seen this offense during his coaching in Missouri because they had a very good gameplan....Give credit to the two guards and center on UC's O-Line...Those guys put in a good night's work....The third quarter reminded me an awful lot like the game-winning drive down in Ripley in my son's senior season..They ran the same play 9 or 10 times in a row..Handed the ball off to Mark Grooms and ran right behind the center's blocks...That was the last time OC won a game by the way...

And what about the fake punt??....Another deception call by the master official....That's at least three times(against a Bowling coached team..I don't know about when he was at D-Burg)that same ref has called that same penalty on the same play....

I'm curious about this...Why do you figure there is no money in it??...That had to be the largest crowd OC has had this year..The OC side was completely full with people lined up down the fence toward the baseball field...UC had a good crowd...The only reason they are playing the game now is for the gate..Last year at UC was the biggest crowd UC had all season...

My reasoning behind saying for a while that it is a lose/lose situation for OC is that since UC dropped to 1A it doesn't look good for OC to lose to 1A team..Especially this year when you see OC's sideline full of players and UC's with with maybe 20 on the sideline...If OC,who is a large 3A school, wins it's like well they should win, they are so much bigger than UC...I personally don't want to see the series cancelled..It's a big rivalry game

Let's start by saying that we all are wishing that Luke Sanderson gets better soon. He is a good young man and has come a long way.

On the game side:

It was a good game for both sides, but it should not have come down to the officials taking over. If Ed Hochuli (NFL referee) gets downgraded then Jerry Carpenter should never referee a High School Game ever again. So many blown and missed calls. The kids and coaches from both team should not have to deal with that kind of performance.

They work too hard. Also, it would be a shame if this series comes to an end even if it is about the money. It is fun for all. Last night's game was exciting.

Congrats to Coach Bowling and his staff...

Next up Bruceton...

As for the other county school, good start at 5-0 but now the real season starts. Maybe you should schedule OC, so you don't have to play such a patsy schedule at the start, that way you would be ready for the end.

If you would rank the 3 schools it would be,

1. UNION CITY

2. OBION COUNTY

3. south fulton tied with Union City Middle School

UC TILL THE END!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the officiating. Horrible on both sides. I still haven't figured why UC was not allowed to retry the extra point after the false start and why OC was given a first down after a holding penalty. Maybe someone can enlighten us? And was Jere Baldridge one of the officials? I know he didn't make any calls but is that not a conflict of interest with him being in the UC Sports Hall of Fame?

There was a good crowd last night. But for the last several years there has been more when playing Dyersburg or Dyer County than the UC game. As with any other school, the crowd is better when teams are winning. I know there was a sour deal in the last 2 being played back to back in UC, which was not popular. Then there was the solo basketball game at UC only. I know what the scheduling difficulties are, but folks don't care about why, only that it was. But I know that when OC was winning those 5 in a row, even at UC the home side was very lean. But you are right, there is nothing to gain for OC playing a smaller school. Everyone complains about the killer schedule OC has now with Lone Oak, SS and Brighton in addition to their region. But, we all know that to get better you have to play someone who is better. Yes, it looks good and makes teams feel good to beat lesser opponents, but it is shortlived. It's tough not winning any games, but no one wants a patsy win. Now, UC is no patsy, but to play down 2 divisions there are those would categorize it as such. I for one relish a win over UC regardless of whose in what division, even in a jumprope contest. And I know UC feels the same. Still, there's too much to be said about it. I see some (not all) of the UC posters constantly telling Gleason to stink it up that it isn't UC's fault they are at least twice the size, then I see the same ones get on here and say that OC should beat UC since they are bigger. Too much double standard for my taste. I've seen UC have the better team and OC still win, and I've seen lopsided wins on both sides.

I think the athletes are available for OC to win. I think Jackson is a good coach who does things his own way regardless of whether people like it or not. I applaud him for that. I hope he stays around for a long time. On the other hand, I don't know that OC has the right kids for that type offense. The majority of his receivers broke in as running backs and I don't know that they are comfortable. Yeager is a good kid, and has potential, but I'm not sure he is suited for this either. Things like that are why I am partial to a coach who adopts an offense for his team, not a team for his offense. Long story in that, but all said I support Coach Jackson. Perhaps it will come together for him and the program. To get back on topic, I know there's been much talk of dropping the match up in all 3 primary sports. I hope it doesn't stop, saves me gas when they play!!

And don't forget, the only other homegame thus far has been Ripley, so not such a good measuring stick. I'll say this though, Ripley is taking care of business. I think they or Haywood will win our region this year.

On the 1st down on the holding call for OC, the hold was downfield at the end of the play. I believe that is considered a spot foul, not a line of scrimmage foul. Therefore, after the penalty is marked off from the spot of the foul, OC still had enough for the 1st down. On the PAT, the kick appeared to have missed to the right from the sideline. I watched the goal official for the indication. He didn't signal good or wave it off. He held his arms straight out to each side. I have no clue what that indicates. The officiating wasn't great, but at least it was even in my opinion. Much better than up in Lone Oak. I couldn't smell any home cooking last night.
