I think the coaches meet sometime this week to vote on everything and discuss next year's schedule and the district tournaments.

Can the COY only come from one of the top three coaches? I would probably give the nod to Ted Young finishing in the top three with the team he had. That game Friday night--coming down from 14 or 15 down against Rossview tells you everything you need to know there.

As for POY, I would probably go with Stanton in Springfield. I know they didn't have a great season, but without him they may not have won a district game. Northeast and Henry Co have too much talent to have one player win it.

Not sure when the awards are announced.

It's always difficult to name 1st and 2nd teams when you don't have accurate stats for any of the teams. But off the top of my head:

1st team--Alderson-NE

Sims -HC

Williams - Rossview

Stanton - Springfield

Baggett - Clarksville

2nd team--Etheridge-HC

Rudolph-NW (probably should be 1st)

Someone else from NE (James?)

Snead maybe?

Harper, Sparks, Childs? who knows

As for COY, no clue. Young gets a lot of the hype, but there's times when he doesn't impress me. At HC this year for example. Player of the year-Sims, although Williams will probably get it. I don't think Alderson has the numbers of the other two, and Stanton doesn't have the team success.

Coach of the Year should be Wilkins out at Henry Co. Fantastic job with a team that has to travel to Clarksville on every road game in the district. As for Player of the year...Marquise Rudolph. 3rd in the mid state in scoring behind John Jenkins of all people and had is best year as a Senior.

Player of the year should be Sims or Williams period. Both players have shown the ability to carry their teams. think Simms gets the nod over Williams but not much. Coach of the year definitely should be a two horse race between Wilkins and Cooper. Wilkins has the first 20 + winning season for HC since late 90's he's done a fantastic job in a football school and has less athletes than the Clarksville schools I agree with the Professor on his hype.

If rudolph is 15 then I think number 32 is better. I don't remember rudolph doin anything in either game against us. Just my opinion.

#32 did have a much better game when NW played at Henry County last week, but Rudolph has been by far their best player this season. You could make a case he's more valuable to NW than Stanton is to Springfield. BTW I believe #32 is a sophomore, correct me if I'm wrong. He's going to be a very good player for them next year.

I haven't seen HC play so I can't comment on Wilkins.

Cooper has the most talented team, so going 12-2 (I think) in a relatively weak district with the talent he has isn't a jaw dropping accomplishment. I think you have to look at coaches who have over achieved for COY. Wilkins may be in that category, Northwest's coach may be in that category, and Ted Young is in that category (although the loss to Dickson County is inexplicable).

Yes Henry co. did shut down rudolph but we all know he is the centerpiece on there team. Thats why henry county's coach said we have to stop him first in the dickson newspaper. But i agree Rudolph for MVP when his team needed big wins he lead them to victory.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
