I think Sweetwater is a very good team, and in the year 2002 they are better than Alcoa! Everything isn't gravy in the Aluminum City. Haven't you all noticed the decline in Alcoa talk??? Alcoa is young and they are not the dominant team this year.

No Sweetwater will not win the state. They do have the players to do it but they dont have that leader every great team has to lead them to a state championship. Last year they had a leader in Thomas McCroskey, but he is gone now and they are searching for someone to take the leadership role over. But i dont think they will find that person and that is why they cant take it all. They will go far but when times get rough they dont have that go to guy.

Agree with OldReb. Sweetwater is loaded with talent only comparable to the Alcoa team of 2000. Hooters, I think you are off base becasue you mention Alcoa, Rockwood, and Wartburg as the teams that coule upset Sweetwater, but clarly as even Sweetwater fans will tell you Oliver Springs will be the only team that has what it takes to give Sweetwater a challenge. Like Sweetwater has in scrimmages, OS has looked tough against AAA and AAAA teams. Should be a great race in the region this year.

I guarantee you TJ Brock will be a leader. He will be a go to guy. He would have been one of the leaders of Maryville if he was still on the team. TJ Brock is a go to guy with two state championship rings. Plus! He was MVP of the 2000 4a state title game. I hope he has a great season. I wish he was still running for the Rebels.I will miss #21.

Where did you'll see that I said Alcoa would beat Sweetwater? I said I don't think that the 2002 Wildcats are as good as Alcoa was in 2000 or 2001, but that's just my opinion and it has yet to be seen. That being said, Sweetwater is the team to beat in 2002, but Rockwood and Wartburg are both capable of winning against Sweetwater. Remember Sweetwater beat Rockwood 38-35 last year on the last play of the game. Granted Sweetwater has some new talent, but Rockwood is returning 8 starters on each side of the ball and they played that game last year without Bryson Pryor and James Thompson along with a guy that graduated. Pryor and Thompson are two of the Tigers three top players and I believe that Rockwood wins that game last season with them in the lineup. I'm not trying to down the Wildcats, but they'd better worry about Region 2AA and it sounds like they're counting their chickens before they hatch.

Yeah quit hating on Sweetwater! They have the #78 player in the nation this year. Alcoa???? Yeah right I was bike riding and happened in on practice, kids were taking water breaks at their girlfriends cars. You all aren't going to win anything this year.

The only way you can attempt to compare this years Sweetwater team to the 2000 Alcoa team is if they run the table. Alcoa averaged almost 37 pts per game, and gave up 6.8, that's the 3rd best defense in that state that year, regardless of classification. Sweetwater will be loaded, and will vie for the gold, but they are as of right now, no where near the 2000 Alcoa team, period.

Sweetwater is a very good team but they will not beat Goodpasture. Until something is done to stop the privates from playing in the public area the road to the State Championship will go through goodpasture. By the way, the team with the most talent in AA is Tyner. They are just not multiple enough on defense and the offense lacks any real strategy. Any good team with talent and a good staff can beat Tyner.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
