jvaughan
"Folding" is just not what coaches of that caliber do. With the term "fold" I am assuming that york10 meant that McMillan and Russell just plain got out coached and did nothing to try to stop Marshall County. Did they have the best game plan against Marshall County? From what I have heard, they had seen lots of tape and talked to coaches and did not think that Marshall County was that good of shooters off the dribble and running off screens. So purely in my speculation (keyword) it may have been that in the game plan, they were going to lay back a little and try to contain Lauren March. I don't think that anyone there could argue against the fact that Marshall County was just that much better that day than Gibson County. I personally think it was a combination of 3 things. 1) Marshall County was hands down the best AA team there that week 2) They shot the ball lights out 3) Gibson County, playing in that environment for the first time, was a little rattled by the two quick whistles on Pate that are still a mystery to anyone who saw them. I do not think that in any way it was McMillan and Russell "folding". How early in the season did Obion play Marshall County?
york10
Didn't say MickeyR folded or maybe I did,JV but NOT calling a time out after 2 quick fouls was not smart coaching. Fuller was a great coach, was, same goes for MickyR, maybe they had a brain freeze. To brag so fast about State now and not considering the rest of the state or 13AA is like say Marshall just got lucky.

Never heard of the coaching strategy of calling a timeout after two quick fouls. I have read countless books about coaching from John Wooden to Bobby Knight, from Coach K to Dean Smith. Never once saw that one. How in the world would calling a timeout have changed or helped anything?!?! The two fouls were easily the worst two calls during the tournament. I was sitting by Marshall County fans and even they were confused at them. Calling timeout would have done nothing at all but waste a timeout. What were they suppose to say during this time out? Please enlighten me. I am very intrigued about your response. And the talk about winning state is mainly from GCPioneer. Gets ahead of himself at times, but is very knowledgeble in his posts and 99% of the time makes a good contribution to the discussion at hand. Without a doubt one of the better posters on here. They played at this time of the year last season in Columbia...But they(MC)were defending and had most of their players back?and I'm sure they played alot over the summer and I'm sure had players playing AAU ball over the summer...Programs of MC 's caliber are pretty much ready at the start of the year....I would use as proof of that by saying that MC was 14-2 and OC was 12-1 before Jan.1 last season and both were undefeated coming into the game... I would agree with you on your three points...I wasn't being argumentative with my post..I've just seen numerous times where GC folks and others noted the shooting %'s and just asked the question were they(MC)just that hot or maybe GC didn't have the greatest game plan going in....I would think they(McMillensquared and Russell)had done everything possible to get their team ready....I agree also that they probably didn't believe MC would shoot like they did... I didn't take offense to your post and wasn't using the date they played as any kind of barometer of how good they were at the time. I agree that teams like that are ready to play coming Thanksgiving. Are they as good in November and December as they are in March? Probably not but still a well prepared team the whole year. Good to see Obion off to good start. Should be a lot of good district games this year.

sls
Russell is one of the better coaches around. He is physical defensive minded, with mental toughness and fundamentals as strongpoints for his players. McMillan is more offensive minded, fun and gun type. The two together make a good combination. With that said, GC was in the press. MC eat GC's press alive, thus shooting layup fter layup, thus the great shooting % for MC. I did think that after 3 minutes of the 1st qtr. GC had an opportunity to get out of the press and play a 1/2 court game. They did not make that adjustment. After a quarter or so they were so far behind, they had to press to even have a chance. GC had not seen their press treated that way all year, except for Milan in the 1st 2.5 qtrs of the region finals. Then Grey had to sit because of fouls and GC came back to win. MC had no foul trouble. The above is typical Russell. From watching his Bradford teams play in the past, he is a, here we are, here is what we do, if you are good enough to beat us, then have at it. He has a very good success rate, but when someone has as much or more talent, sometimes adjustments are needed occasionally.

Purple & Gold Standard
I think your score was a typo error but the correct score last night was Gibson County 68 Bradford 39 /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> You are right.....I changed it... I actually heard on the radio this morning it was 69-39...
sls
68-39 was the score, one of the roughest girls games i have ever seen. 15 minutes in the 2nd qtr was spent cleaning blood off the floor.
