Whoever is spreading this bull does not know what they are talking about because Greenway is done for the season. His 'antics' off the field has caused him to lose his starting position as the QB as the Greeneville team, and some of those influential people DO NOT want him to play......he has been and will continue to be dismissed from the team!

Wow, I am actually kinda shocked on this one. If this would have been a few years ago, the kid would have definately played. G-ville has definatley "pulled" some strings before and I know this first hand. Kudos though to the "administration" and the coaches for taking the extra steps to make sure that the incident could hopefully be used as a life long lesson. I hope the Greenway kid can learn from this and hopefully latch on to a college somewhere. Plus I hope the coaches there at GHS can help him with that and do not banish him completely. People make mistakes and he has more years to play ball in college if given the opportunity... and he will... there are too many colleges out there that will take him. I just hope he can grow from the unfortunate situations and learn from them to be successful in the long run.

Back to the thread... Devils beat Betsy!

That didn't take long.If your offense is not as strong,your defense will be on the field longer,and give Elizabethton more chances.

Now that's just a good ole Greeneville Highschool education {Wild kitten}

Offense is plenty strong...will be on the field longer with the ground game....wears Betsy down faster.

Greeneville wins 35-26...too much Trevon Hall and Comp, the lack of feet did not seem to prevent Betsy from shooting what was left of their bloody nubs. Between the rain and the wet turf, the Cyclone D was slippin' and slidin, and missing tackles. A Greeneville TD off a Betsy fumble in the end zone on the opening drive of the second half kinda set the tone... Witten's boys managed to move the ball well, but crucial errors late and the inability to slow the Greeneville offense proved too much for the Cyclones, despite the best efforts of the zebras to keep them in the game...Does anyone know where these sorry officials came from???? or why they bothered to show if they aren't gonna make an effort???? I can't recall seeing so many holding no-calls in a game...

And here's one I've never seen before..... Betsy has the ball 4th and about 6 inches...official spots the ball, center prepares to snap the ball and the official calls time-out to change the down-marker....meanwhile,center has moved the ball forward a foot, past the 1st down marker. Official fails to re-spot the ball before the subsequent snap. Play results in a first down and a subsequent TD....officials were just a tad incompetent.

All in all, a fun game despite the driving rain late. I hope TSSAA sees fit to place us in region 1 as we would love to have Elizabethton back on the schedule. Witten is doing a nice job and Betsy will, like Greeneville, continue to improve but having a tougher schedule will help.

The game was quite a bit closer than what you indicate. Elizabethton matched Greeneville drive for drive until the very end. They just missed two pat's (botched hold/snap and a failed 2-point attempt). And the officials were not THAT bad. They were bad but playing and watching games heere in east tennessee has made me somewhat immune to their incompetence.

I do agree with you, barb, that the defensive TD for Greeneville was the turning point. EHS had a lot of the momentum from the end of half #1 and that play gave it all back to the Devils.

Good game from both teams. I'm glad I made the trek down and I can't wait to see the rivalry in the regular season again next year /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Good luck to the Devils next week and the weeks after that. Good job Cyclones, The program is finally going in the right direction now /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
