I certainly know that coach Burchfield is an Oneida person. I wasn't sure that it was him they were referring to earlier in the thread. They do indeed have solid people there, and being OHS alumni certainly helps...Oneida will be Oneida, they don't have a whole lot to worry about. It is a great place with good facilities, tradition, and support...they will be fine, and should attract many suiters.

Oneida is great place to live. We have a hospital here. Nice golf course. One of the best city parks I have ever seen! But, its a small town and larger schools hire coaches...not coaches/teachers. You really have to want to live and coach here to do the job well.

Also, I didn't mean to slight Coach Wright or Coach Burchfield. They should be given a really good look as well, if they put in for the job. I assumed that neither of them would want the HC war bonnet. Both are awesome coaches!

I am a big fan of hiring from within (not within Oneida...within the Organization) Steelers win championships doing this all the time. Bring folks in...let them grow thru the system. Sucess breeds Sucess. But, you never know who might fit in perfectly from anywhere?

I think Kaz said it best...Oneida has to Get it Right......and it needs to be quick as possible.

One thing I would like to say......no matter what, we have to get it right. We obviously have some excellent coaches in our system.....I think last years 13 - 1 record should verify that! Tony L. will be the first to tell you that he was only as good as the people he surrounded himself with. Am I implying that the present coaches are the best fit? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I'm not ever going to tell anyone the way they should go, but this coaching staff has certainly MERITED tremendous consideration. R. Wright has spent the last two years teaching these kids the current offense. You can see they have picked it up well by the statistacle improvement this team has shown. J. Burchfield was the DC for the State Championship team and is clearly still invested in Oneida Football. He is a high character individual and well respected in coaching circles. John Brewster is returning to his roots......he has worn the O on his helmet and he has been through the coaching ladder for some time. He obviously started far away from home and built himself a resume before returning.....and he wants the job. Very good choice because the turnover (transition) in front of the players will not be significant and they will know what is expected of them!

I'm getting a few more names..... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Hey, it's a popular job! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> .....some of them surprised me. Then again.....NOTHING SURPRISES ME. Pujo....maybe we can give you a new hero! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Kaz ,when its all said and done, the kids are the one,s who you are cheering for on friday nights. It was great leadership who molded the Oneida team that I rooted for. Hopefully you will be fortunate enough to find the same kind of leadership again. Its not as easy as some might think. Good luck

Hey Pujo,

Aren't you related to a pretty good coach?

He's either pretty good or had alot of luck.

I've seen too much football to believe in luck! Maybe we ought to give him a call. Shoot, he's just like family over here. Maybe not a brother but definately a 1st cousin! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What's the point in commenting about rumors? Until something happens...there's no point in talking about it.

Coach Lambert did an outstanding job at Oneida. The football program is much better due to his leadership. We wish him the best of luck at AC.

Also, One true thing to remember....Oneida does have a tremendous middle school program. The Indians have some very talented athletes this year and will have for next 5-6 years. So, whoever takes over the program, they will have a slew of very big, strong and fast players to put on the field.

Also, Also, I agree with Kaz. TL is irreplaceable??¦so why try?

There are several good candidates out there who will do very well at Oneida that are not Coach Lambert. Some are already wearing orange and white.

I am sure the school board will choose a man who is every bit as capable to lead the Indians as Coach Lambert was.

It amaze me that he didnt play high school football only one year of JV and at the age of 26 walked on to Cumberland College for 2-3 spring parctice and quit. i guess he knows how to work players but for him self

he took the easy way.

kaz i know different people played from time to time in the secondary, but our primary starters were all underclassmen

#35,#24,#23,#14? right

Unreall Tony Lanbert only played 1 year of JV football and at age 26 walked on to Cumberalnd College well that tells me he works his players hard but never did him self. what did he do when he was 15-17 years old sell pop corn at the games.

So...what is the requirement for being a good coach? 2 years? 2 years plus one year in JV. 3 year in varisty plus one broken bone...or you can substitute 3 concussions!

Ben Rothlishbeger only played 1 year of high school football. He's a terrible QB!

You can hate on TL all day long. I am sure you will be complaining on the drive over to the State Championship some day.

well first off you need to get your facts right, Tony played at Scott High School

and he played his senior year and was a very outstanding player on the first

and only district championship team. he also played 4 years of baseball

i am sure you can ask any of his former coaches how hard he worked.he did

walk on at cumberland and played through spring and he and his wife found

out they were having their 2nd child that why he left the team. so dont

get on here talking about something you have no clue about! : : /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
