Your first statement is the most interesting of all. There's been a lot of turnover coaching wise but all other team's in the region have their coaching staff's in place and are working on getting ready for the '09 season. I'm not sure the Warriors are serious about football considering they've still not hired someone. I guess the streak will continue in '09, '10, '11, and so on, and so on. The Warriors simply can't beat the Cavs, we're just hoping they hire someone that can make the games exciting and competitive!!

Wasn't aware of the streaks between the Cavs and Warriors, but I'll have to say there hasn't been to many teams around this area that have had any luck beating the Cavs either. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Is it true one of the Cavs assistants has applied at Sparta? I heard at work today Houser might want it. I 've heard good things about Mattan. I know Cookeville has a good program. That Hennigan kid signed with tech and I heard others may sign too, is that RB Salazar, I butchered his name, is he going anywhere. Rhode Island I heard???

I coached with Matthan Houser at Jackson County and he would be an excellent choice to lead White County. The players always liked him and played extremely hard for him. Matthan is very organized and exudes enthusiasm that rubs off on those around him. If White County is really, really lucky they might even get his dad to come with him. Good luck to White County. I hope you make a good choice.

White County has lost a heck of a coach, best of luck to them in the future. Perhaps this could be AC's gain?

AC is like Tennessee in that "new blood" is needed. Josh is a good line coach as evidenced by his participation in the TN-KY Borderbowl this year. However, every football program at some time needs new blood. It is Anderson County's time.

Agree with your post 100%. I have known Matthan pretty much his whole life and it would be very hard to find anyone that will put in as much effort as he will with the kids. Matthan is very knowledgeable about the game of football and knows what it takes to have a successful program. But more importantly he will instill in all the kids his values about life. I guarantee those kids will be better people by just his influence. And I agree WC would be very lucky if his dad decides to come with him. Mark coached at White Co. one year in 1981 I believe when Don Farley was the head man.

Thanks RC.

It was actually the 1980 football season, 1980-81 school year. The staff included Don Farley, Head Coach; Jimmy Maynord, Dale Fair, Keith Short and myself. The team finished 8-3 defeating Goodpasture 26-0 in the Industrial Bowl. Lots of great players on that team and great memories as well!

Well after all that has been many moons ago and my memory is not what it used to be. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I was trying to remember who all coached on that staff. I knew Jimmy did. Forgot about Dale and coach Short. I guess Burt Oakley came after you left ? Also trying to remember some of the players. Tim Richardson played QB on that team or was he a little later ? Glad to hear from you coach, I hope everything works out for Matthan.

    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
