Top 4 teams at this tournament were definately

1- INDEPENDENCE--- pretty solid from top to bottom

2- CLARKSVILLE---looked sharp but had some holes to fill

3- BLACKMAN--- lost by 2 to Indy with 3 starters out until after X-MAS

4- COOKEVILLE--- put in a tough pool with Indy and only lost by 6 to them... should of been in their own pool as a top seed. Will see Blackman in 2 weeks and will be a tough match.

GOOD JOB INDY!!

Independence got its revenge after dropping a match against Clarksville High earlier in the season, handing the Wildcats a 32-26 defeat Saturday at CHS' annual Slamfest tournament.

Independence took the opening match at 112 by one point, but Clarksville captain Kellen Ferguson gave the Wildcats a major fall at 119.

The 125-pound match would prove to be the closest contest of the final with freshman Hayden Jordan winning, 1-0. Ben Hebda also marginally edged out his opponent at 130 and won, 3-2.

Going into the 135-pound match, Clarksville led 10-3. Independence struck back at 140 pounds with a major fall to close the Clarksville lead to three.

At 145 pounds, Anthony Grady nearly pinned his opponent in the first period, but the time ran out. Grady did, however, get the victory for Clarksville with a major fall. Matt Rabbitt stepped up in the third period of his match to give the Wildcats another major fall victory. Clarksville would default at 160 pounds to retain an 18-16 lead.

Independence took the 171-pound class in convincing fashion with a major fall that gave the Eagles a two-point lead over Clarksville.

The 189-pound match was a dogfight, with neither wrestler willing to give up a point until Gabe Vasquez scored in the third period on an escape that gave Clarksville a one-point lead in the team tally.

Independence had their strongest showing of the night in the 215-pound division, with no doubt as to who would be victorious from the opening whistle and finally coming away with the pin.

With only two matches to go, Independence had a five-point lead with the score standing at 26-21. Independence got yet another pin in the heavyweight division to seal the victory. Independence then defaulted the 103-pound weight class to end the tournament.

Earlier, the 16-team field was narrowed down to four after the early rounds, with Clarksville High, Cordova, Independence High and Blackman emerging.

Clarksville High dominated its opponents in the initial rounds of the tournament and had no plans of slowing down against Cordova in the semifinal match.

Despite a default at the heavyweight class, Clarksville secured the victory early with a dominating performance by the wrestlers in the lower weight classes, who pinned their opponents time and time again.

Clarksville came out smoking with two pins at 103 and 112 pounds. Jordan also added to the effort by pinning his opponent only two minutes into the first period.

Ben Hebda then cushioned Clarksville's lead by getting a last-second takedown for a victory at 130 pounds.

The domination continued with a pin by Ren Baggett in the 135 slot, along with another pin at 140 by Brandon Isabelle.

Cordova finally put its first points on the board with a victory at 145 pounds, but Clarksville rebounded with two more pins by Anthony Grady at 152 and Matt Rabbitt at 160. Vasquez followed suit by getting yet another pin at 189.

Cordova managed to score again with a quick pin in the 215-pound class to make the final score 54-21, with Clarksville High clinching a berth in the final.

Independence secured a spot in the final after a close contest with Blackman.

It's shocking Brentwood go O-fer. Someone please tell me they had kids out with injury.

They were missing Dunning and Hoop in the middle and that might of helped but they were also giving up forfeits at 160, 215, & 285. Its hard to be dual team spotting everyone 18 pts. The Bruins have some rebuilding to do this year.

Congrats to Indy for a great win!
