hey flyinpro. Maybe Riggs didnt have his O-line that he had his junior year?

Riggs had a crappy line, but the fact is still that the team was shut down and his 70yds. was terrible.

Who is the best Running Back in TN and why?

i dont think anyone can say who the best running back in the state is until that person has proved it. the only person i know who has proved it is carl stewart. led maryville to 2 state championships and was all-state running back. plus was offensive mvp in the state championship game. it dont get much better than that

this is comin from a former west high trojan player

Personally, I thought last year Carl got the butt end of the deal and still came out smelling like roses. Most times Carl broke away for touchdowns, but we ran closer to the goal line with TJ. Carl carried the WHOLE William Blount team on his back last year for atleast 5 yards. His legs never stop, he's so determined to get the extra yard, to fall forward! In two years I've never once seen Carl go head to head with someone and lose. I recall once when Carl RAN OVER the short DB from Mo-West, you could hear the pop two blocks away, but somehow the kid reached back and barely tripped Carl up on the 15 or so, no one else was there to stop him. Thats the only time I can think of ONE person stopping Carl. He's a powerhouse, thats all there is to it, almost a freak! :) He's a great guy and a heck of a football player, Vandy is another school highly interested in him!

Clemson Dad...

I have to quietly disagree with that...Stewart is a great player, but is he even a top 5 player in the state? Riggs last year was the states best player and some said the best runningback in the country...I am sure stewart is a great player, but hes not nearly the best this state has ever seen...My personally favorite would have to be Xavier Crawford from Trezevant, he was a one man show...I bet coachT or rollred might remember that name in the late 80's...also a steroid freak, and that was the reason he never became much of anything past high school.

Tommy Winton of Knox West is one of the best I have ever seen. He goes 230-240 runs and can be shifty when he wants to, or run over people. He didn't play much against Alcoa but you could tell when he was in the game. He needs to hold onto the football better too. But if he can stay healthy, Winton along with the West Rebels will have a shot in the playoffs.

I know Clemsondad and he has seen lots and lots of football he is job allows him to see many teams in many classifications and he has seen some great players in his days he is very reliable trust me. Carls speed size and all around talent are enough to sham anyone one on the same field. But don't ask him about it cause he will shrugg his shoulders or say something about the o-line.

Are we talking about the best RB at the High school level, or who is the best RB prospect?

Because Riverdale's Ralph King was probably the best at the high school level last year. But he wasn't recruited very much at all. Riggs, however, was extremely coveted.

So what is it?

carl is unreal, but i think a lot of people forget about T.J. brock. If you asked carl or tj who they thought the better was they would both say the other out of respect. Oh and whoever said carl never got carries towards to the goal line is wrong. Both were amazing to watch together, one was bluecross mvp one year and the other the next, with both rushing over a 100 yards against hillsboro

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
