Any chance Lauren Murr wins player of the year in the conference?

She should be the winner - she holds the records in the conference and I believe because of her she has made Crockett the team it is. Also, of any senior in the Big 9, she is truly the most improved player. I believe you will see the Big 9 coaches giving her the award she truly deserves. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Murr is a good player and one of the best in the conference. She also has big numbers and has helped turn the Crockett program around no doubt. Murr is also very much improved but i would be surprised if they give the most valuable player to the most improved player. Typically, the most valuable player is one that helped lead her team in the conference and not necessarily stats. If I am not mistaken Montogomery has helped lead THS to 4 straight conference championships & 4 regional appearances.

Preditions

MVP-Montgomery-THS

First Team

Murr-Crockett

Frolich-DB

Moody-Central

Good-S. Hill

Second Team-still alot of good players out there.................need to think on this one....

I can't disagree that she is might be the most improved player. However, she averaged around 17 or 18 a game last year. That would lead the league this year. She is up around 23 maybe more in 08-09.

I watched the game last night (Science Hill) and even in the loss she kept her team in the game. Last night, Crockett was without their starting PG and their Center could only play limited minutes due to injury. She did what she had to last night and that was score to keep her team in the game. I have seen other games where she did not shoot as much because she did not need to.

I have only seen TN High play one game this year. That was against Crockett.

If this is a team award.....then Montgomery wins it.

If this is an individual award then I'm not sure this is the case.

You can make an argument either way. I'm just making the argument because the folks down at Crockett say they do not get as much recognition as others in the area.

Murr has scored over 1500 points in her career and from what I hear is a top of the line student-athlete.

Either way, both young ladies deserve it.

Really depends on who the coaches vote on because it boils down to them. Last year, Natalie Pickwell won it and I believe South was in third place and I guess if Crockett could possibly get in top four she would win it, and again holding all records this year in the Big 9 should mean something. It is based on this year and not previous years. I think the top contenders will be: Murr, Montgomery, Moody, Frolich, Devine, or Good.

I think that MVP of the Big 9 is a quality player and a player that can lead her team to wins. All of the players mentioned are good players-great student-athletes-with good stats. However, I think whichever team finishes close to the top or wins the championship will receive the award. That is why my previous post said "typically."

In my opinion, votes should be based on 08-09 only. I know some will disagree but if there is a close vote then the senior should get the nod.

Both are great. No question about it. This is how I look at it; if you take Murr off of Crockett's Team and they probably have only one or two wins this year. Take Montgomery off of THS this year and they still are in the top three in the league. That is why I feel Murr is the Player of the Year. She is that valuable to her team.

What about how valuable Good is to Science Hill and Moody is to Sullivan Central. If you take them off of their respective teams are they in the top 4 still? Probably not. The award for Player of the Year should go to the best all-around player not just who scores the most points. All statistical catagories should be looked at including defensive stats. Several stats are included in the JC Press every friday and many of the top girls from the Big 9 are in the top 10 across NE Tennessee. I believe Good and Murr are listed in almost every statistical catagory that is included.

Victory, I agree with you. Both Good and Moody are the glue that keeps their teams together.

This year in the Big 9 we dont have a really dominant team. I know THS has only one loss, but they have been challenged. What we do have are some great individual players. Let me have Montgomery, Murr, Good, Moody, and Frolich (Campbell SS, Devine DB, Burleson THS, and Edwards DCHS off the bench) and I think we have a pretty good team. The point is, the Big 9 has plenty of talent but it is more spread out this year. That being said, we will probably have a "co" player of the year.

Who is the Coach of the Year??

Murr has almost single-handedly taken her team from a perennial cellar-dweller to middle of the pack. Montgomery has led her team to the top for 3 years in a row and this year with less support than in the past. Good and Moody are great, too, but their teams seem to have underachieved so they have no shot. Doesn't Devine have better "numbers" than Frohlich?

Next year, without Murr & Montgomery, where will their teams be? TN High will still be near the top but Crockett will probably be back swimming in the bottom of the barrel. If I had a vote it would go to Murr, partly because I've rarely seen her take a play off.
