Memphis Central-West TN-Post Season

Memphis Central currently:

 

First all: Great game by Central last night and way to overcome early foul trouble. Memphis Central has several players that can step up to the plate in case of early foul trouble to replace key team members.

 

I watched parts of the game via internet and Jasmine Taylor continues to be the most consistent player on the team as it relates to scoring and rebounding. Erica Burgess by all means is the glue to the puzzle and makes the whole team click (as was evident when she went out in the first quarter last night with early fouls). Jamila A. is the athletic high flyer and has explosive capabilities offensively ??“ however, in my mind her biggest asset is her length and her ability to pull bigger players out from the basket and take smaller players to the block. These three allow the freshmen to be freshmen and chime in as needed. Danielle Ballard will eventually be the ???best??? player to ever wear a Memphis Central uniform (as long as she continues to work hard). A. Whiteside easily benefits from the other four which allows her to be a silent assassin. To top this starting line up off: Finessee James is their designated 3 pt specialist which her only job (IMO) is to stretch the defense ??“ hit or miss ??“ let it fly and make the other team guard you to stretch the defense.

 

An extremely solid top 6 with 2 other serviceable role players. Based on what Memphis Central has accomplished thus far ??“ they are a legit state contender.

 

Memphis Central ??“ TBD (To Be Determined):

 

I think Memphis Central is going to realize that the true battle is getting to the state! After that: it is anybody??™s gold ball. The burning questions will be how this un-proven deep post season team will respond in elimination games. It??™s a different ball game when your season is on the line and your opponent is extremely formidable. Believe me: Bartlett has participated in 3 consecutive sub-states and the feeling of being one game away from the top eight (State Tournament) is immense and every single possession counts. One team makes a 6 ??“ 0 run or a team does NOT make a quick enough adjustment may prove to be the difference in the whole game (unlike regular season). A 6 point lead in a game of this magnitude is huge because these caliber of teams value every stinking single possession. AND guess what: THEY DEFEND like crazy??¦??¦??¦

 

Lastly: IF your team (whomever that may be) is fortunate enough to make it to state: Players are chauffeured in through the back of the stadium as though the poparatzee (news media) is hot on their trails; security escorts players if they have to be away from the team prior to game (ie ??“ to get something from a parent etc.), security escorts players to post game conferences, the media section is usually bigger than most high school fan sections and there are typically college coaches laced throughout the crowd of about 5,000 fans. The hoopla of this event has the most seasoned D1 players (especially first time around) in awe of the moment.

 

So I submit to you posters:

 

Is Central capable of getting a GOLD BALL on their first trip through??????

Is Millington better prepared to complete this task after coming so close last year?????

Will Bartlett flourish in post season in spite of being overlooked by state wide polls all year????

Will Houston duplicate its storied run and finally make that push through sub-states????

Will White Station finally get over the hump and make it to sub-states????

Will Overton make a deep post season push to get to the glass house?????

Will Melrose join their 16AAA partners (MC) and both make a run for the glass house???

Will Memphis East come out the shadows to shock West Tn?????

Will 13AAA (Hardin County) finally knock off the top dogs in 14AAA????

Will Ridgeway show some consistent play as opposed to glimpses of a solid team????

Will an unknown contender grace our sports pages for the first time as the ???upset queens??????

 

No one remembers regular season. All they remember is post season and how you finished.

 

Question: Real Deal or Road Kill / On Top or a Flop / Legendary or Ordinary / Contender or Pretender / State Bound or Home Bound /

At this stretch of the season, that post had me laughing out loud! You need to be writing a sports column! I love your take on things, even when you're biased...but you've got a right to be, as do all of us parents! Go Lady Warriors, Go Lady Panthers, Rock em Lady Trojans, and everybody else vying for the throne! For lots of us parents and supporters, this is our last year in this level of the game, and I can say I am very proud of the way every one of these ladies has carried herself. OK..OK..OK....If I say Bartlett is 100% at something then you have to use the bottom formula to come up with the actual percentage:

100 x 2 divided by 4 + 25 + the square root of 9 - 11 + 32= ANSWER????

 

100 x 2 = 200

200 / 4 = 50

50 + 25 = 75

Plus the square root of 9 = 3

Minus 11

Plus 32

I too am extremely proud of the West Tn (Shelby County) players. The 2009 class of players out of the Shelby County area (as a whole) are easily some the best players in this class from across the state (If not the best!). Just look at scholarship signings as one indicator. We will see if their post season performance will validate my observations. Hopefully West Tn has a good enough combination of these players (on various teams) with some of the underclassmen to bring a gold ball to this area in AAA. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
