I won't be....saw him in a coupe of appearances last year and i thought he looked very capable. RRR went to the 7 v. 7 event out at MBA and said that he thought MBA looked good, although the line might be questionable.

The kid's name is Luke Colbert. Apparently, he is creating quite a buzz this summer. He has been going to camp after camp in an effort to get exposure since there isn't much film on him. Vandy, Memphis, MTSU, Duke, and Louisville have shown interest. The first few games of this season will be critical for him to get an offer(s).

 

As for the rest of the team, I don't know much other than that some of the players to watch are LB Brad Bars, who has an offer from Army, FB/LB Fitz Lassing, and WR William Tanner.

 

A question mark appears to be the defensive and offensive lines. However, the Big Red typically does a great job of rebuilding the lines.

 

I'm curious if MBA will be more of a passing or running oriented team this year.

Rather than use the running game to set-up the pass (like in past years), I'd be surprised if MBA doesn't leverage the pass to set up the run. I thought Tanner was one of the biggest surprises on last year's team and I think he could have a bigger year with a qb like Colbert.

Well the final score was 42-14 in favor of MBA but for a long time this was actually a game that was very exciting. Pearl Cohn returned the opening kick for a TD and then they forced an MBA turnover right away. After failing to capitalize the Big Red settled in and scored 3 TDs in a row to make the score 20-7. After this the Firebirds responded well and they scored on a long TD run to make the score 20-14. After forcing yet another MBA turnover PC got the ball back again and could have tied the game, and even took a 21-20 lead into the locker room, but a long pass that would have been a score was dropped. MBA eventually held and made a drive of their own until they missed a FG right before halftime and at the intermission the score was 20-14. In the 3rd quarter MBA scored 3 times and made the game 35-14 before adding another score late in the game when the JV players were in for both teams. I thought that overall it was an exciting game and I look for both of these teams to do well within their own classes this year. Pearl Cohn looked nothing like a 1-9 football team IMO.

It's always hard to tell much from a first game. MBA certainly has some talent, although I think it may be a while before we know how good PC was. I'm more than a little concerned about MBA's special teams: they gave up a touchdown on a kick-off, missed a PAT, had a roughing the punter call, and did not punt all night. These things all worry me a bit.

 

On the other hand, they looked decent on the line, and Colbert seemed very comfortable running the team. He seems to have an awfully good arm. Next week against Maplewood should be an interetsing test.

this game will be a COMPLETE blowout the 97 firebirds were amazing beard went off to play at Alabama and Henderson is playing on Sundays, this year firebirds are awful they might have won at least 3 to 4 games at most and im giving them these gaes to be nice . MBA is a solid team have at least 3 to 4 possible 2 to 3 stars on rival i say final score will be MBA 49-PCHS-6

this game will be a COMPLETE blowout the 97 firebirds were amazing beard went off to play at Alabama and Henderson is playing on Sundays, this year firebirds are awful they might have won at least 3 to 4 games at most and im giving them these gaes to be nice . Sometimes scores can be misleading and in this game that was the case because for 3 quarters MBA was in a fight with PC. It wasn't a "complete blowout" like you were expecting. Pearl Cohn likely could have led the game at halftime if #2 doesn't drop that touchdown pass. He was 10 yards behind the MBA defensive backfield and simply just failed to look the ball all the way in. Oh well.....it happens!

No offense, but it was a fight for about a quarter, after that, MBAs physical running game just dominated. The Pearl Cohn coach said in the Tennesseean that they were out-physicaled the entire second half. And on the dropped catch the receiver was maybe 2 yards behind the corner and safety
