MUS-2, Maryville 1

CBHS-5, Maryville 0

Tough week for Maryville but we played some very quality teams. We were able to hang in there against MUS, but they still had the run of play. The game was not lopsided @ all, and we missed some chances, but MUS has a great side.

CBHS is in another league. I would not be surprised if they do not lose a game this year. They really are one of the best HS teams I have ever seen. We really hope that our guys bounce back and take this as a learning experience, and we also hope that our guys know that sometimes you have to be willing to lose in order to win later on. Also, I was very impressed with the way Coach Lima and his boys carry themselves. They were classy, did not rub salt in the wounds, and were full of compliments and humility. Best of luck to them this year!

Friday @ Notre Dame

Notre Dame 2 Station Camp 1

This was a well played, well coached game on both sides. I look for each team to continue to get better as the season progresses.

i agree wholeheartedly. this could very well have been a preview of a sub-state game in may. our guys had plenty of chances, we had about 13 shots on goal and notre dame had about 5, but they were smarter than us and scored on 2 set pieces. both sides expended a ton of energy in this game. even though we lost, this was a very fun game to watch.

Ned,

I was also at the game, although my last one graduated from CBHS last year. I want to pass along an observation on Maryville's coach. Late in the game, a Maryville player bumped a CBHS player on the far side near the sideline. It was nothing major, no dirty play, but the CBHS player ended up down on the track surface. I could hear M'ville's coach admonishing his player that there was no reason for anybody to get hurt and to knock it off, in so many words. That was a class act! I don't know your coach's name, but I really appreciated his sportsmanship and concern for the players early in the season. Best of luck this year! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    • Looks like South Pittsburg added some more talent!
    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
