ratnose
I had a chance to talk to Brandon when I stopped by the field house a couple of weeks ago before the Marion Co baseball game. I hadn't talked to him since we played together at Central. He mentioned then that he was considering this job in GA. We started talking about the good old days and all of the memories we had on the field in both football and baseball. I could tell that this decision was weighing heavily on him and that Central was where he wanted to be. But he said that he ultimately had to do what was best for his family. He was frustrated at the lack of financial support that the program had received over the years. I think in order for Central to hire a good coach and keep him here, there needs to be an overwhelming support from the community and the local businesses. If you can't keep a local boy whose ties and heart are with the Chargers, who can you keep? Best of luck Brandon. FRUSTRATED WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT!?!?! - Hardly! In the last few years there has been alot of money raised for the FOOTBALL program(over 100 grand). This community has been very generous with some businesses and individuals giving numerous times when called upon. Sooo, the statement that the community has not supported Brandon Derrick or the football program is a complete INSULT. I agree that is heart will always be a charger but as the old saying goes if mommas not happy......nobodys happy!

Sooo, the statement that the community has not supported Brandon Derrick or the football program is a complete INSULT. I agree that is heart will always be a charger but as the old saying goes if mommas not happy......nobodys happy! Those weren't my words. I'm just telling you how he said he felt. I guess he was just making a comparison to other schools that he's visited. I, for one, was impressed with the facilities that Central now has because my only reference was what we had 17 years ago when I played. We had virtually nothing. Our weightlifting equipment was sub-par and the facilities were less than adequate. Like I said, we were just catching up and he may have been just thinking out loud and trying to convince himself that he's making the right move (as we all do from time to time). Since I've been back home, I've been nothing but impressed with McMinn Central athletics as well as the support they seem to be getting from the community. But you can't blame Coach Derrick. He's doing what's best for his family and I wish them the best. You also can't blame him for wanting more for his team. That's what Central needs. A coach that is never satisfied. canadian
Landius Wilkerson, Brent Masingale, Josh Goodin.................... Take your pick. All three very good coaches. And would be great to have as the head coach.
getaclue
heard a rumor that they were trying to get all 3 of the guys to be on staff next year...also heard that Wilkerson probably will not get the job because he may not be around much longer..i would hire him if only for a fewyears...but..How good would the staff be if they had all 3 of these guys coaching...Who else would be on staff? how many jobs are open? when will they make a decision? Coach Derrick is a good coach, but IF they manage to get them ALL 3 on the staff. They will be upgrading big time. Them 3 coaches together would make a heck of a staff. I heard the same thing about Wilkerson also. If he was in it for the long run he would get it i believe.. But I think he is only going to be here about 3 more years. thug dadi
Wilkerson may be here for only one more year. His wife is in her last year of pre-med, and she will be applying to med school when she finishes. The closest one is Johnson City. Don't think he will commute or expect his wife to commute that far. But, even with that said, I think that the best thing to do at this point is to name Wilkerson as head coach for this year, with the understanding the 2010 team will be getting a new coach. This will give the school a year to search for the best coach that they can find. Plus, Wilkerson was the anchor of this staff, and I think that the plays and plans that they have are alot of what he has come up with, so there won't be any changes for the boys beyond what they are doing now. This is no slight on BD, but if the school does this, I don't think there will be any real difference. I heard at least 2 people at the end of last years season say that they thought BD would be leaving. HEY, that gives us a year to talk Coach Derrick from Polk to come to Central. That way we won't have to change any tags, name plates, or programs. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Regardless who the coach is, you need continuity in a program. You could give that to these kids for years to come with one of these guys that don't plan on leaving. I say get somebody that will commit long term, and mean it. Somebody who has ties and will be here to make this team better and do more than just ramp up for a run to another school. As far as I'm concerned, you'll not find better coaches for this school than the ones they're interviewing. Also, bet we know tomorrow, in the paper by Friday! Go Big Blue!!!
