muttandjeff
Well, I don't think we will find someone with all the qualities. I mean Charlie was not a superstar his Soph year. He was good enough to be a work in progress though and of course by his Senior year was a top notch corner. The one thing Charlie had from the beginning though was the killer instinct. Heath may have that but I just am concerned about his fragility. I mean we have been fortunate to have linebackers for QB's and the Saint is no different but worst comes to worst I want Heath healthy. That said, of the Soph's I like Paul. He is smart, fast, has agility and can smell the ball. He is instinctive and is dying for a chance. Yes, he lacks killer instinct but I think he will learn quick. Cody is probably the logical choice. He is an athlete. My gut tells me Riddle will be the one. He will be a compromise but I believe Cody is too short. Z and Rowland are givens. AJ? I can't say. I hear Drew Shanks is an athlete waiting on a position. Word is he will play somewhere. But personally I like Ryan Lockhart. Somebody please convince this kid to play football. Talk about killer instinct. He would be a lockdown corner. #1 will be the FS and he could probably play corner just as well so that leaves one spot to be filled. Valid points. muttandjeff
It's CASSELL...did you forget about Drew Shanks at wideout and at db,I thought Drew looked to be one of the best recievers in spring practice...I was told that Weston might work Cassell in at Saftey some when practice resumes.I think JJ has a way to go before he starts pushing for playing time...JC I can see playing some,he made some big hits in the spring ...but there was times he was lost in the dust.I wish them all the best. Yes, Mr. Shanks, (just kidding, I don't have a clue who you are) I absolutely did forget about Drew Shanks, --shows alot of speed and he is a good candidate. Might be just the one. And, Cassell, ---great Idea. Actually I've had him, in my mind, as a strong favorite to play Strong Safety--size, speed, can run and hits hard-----he just slipped my mind when I was putting my original note together, honest, cross my heart.. Both these boys, from what I've seen, are fine young men, as well. I think we have the Def.Secondary resolved.
compusatman
Stacy is beaming at how this tradition is coming together. The '04 class recieved Stacy's medicine and did as instructed. They made some noise and set the groundwork for the footers to be laid. And '05 were the Deacons of this regime' and wrote the Constitution. '06 were the mesengers of the shape of things to come. '07 was the culmanation of the system and proof that it does in fact work. '08 was a statement that yes we are not a one trick pony and '09's job is to put the hammer down. He alludes that each years Seniors take it up another notch and teach yet an even more intense work ethic for the rising group to to be apprentices to. It's impressive that it is ever increasing and no one is looking back except to salute to the ones who made them and taught them the dicipline. 2009...it is up to you to carry on the Rebel Nation. Don't let them destroy it before we make them know who we are. /excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":excl:" border="0" alt="excl.gif" /> Yes, Mr. Shanks, (just kidding, I don't have a clue who you are) I absolutely did forget about Drew Shanks, --shows alot of speed and he is a good candidate. jhilts
My two cents (second hand). Wes W. is WR now, but could change? Z will do it all as a DB. Just load up the other side. Not this year on Wagner or AJ. Burnt many times in 7 on 7. JJ needs to sit down, listen and learn and he will be a fine player. Not this year. Feynves has only been to one or two practices....Hope he's ready. Need to get him a lot of game speed snaps. More to kicking than just kicking. Headrick overrated above. He probably made the best decision for himself.
Rebel06
Many alluded to Heath being a WR in past threads. I disagreed with the rationale that he needed to be "overly protected". I still don't see him in the secondary but according to the Horse he is catching with more aplomb than the Z. I haven't seen it but it has been said. So, fact is he will be a parttime WR. More importantly, we have a new kicker. And from what I understand a world beater. That would be (Adam?) Fenyves. A soccer player of course. And since we have a fairly decent soccer team (and coach) he looks to be a go getter. A Soph no less. I understand he is putting them in the endzone or a regular basis. My son says he can kick the Shlitz out of it. He is currently doing the morning workout with the Rebels in addition to his other summer workouts hence his knowledge. So for those wondering about the kicking game it looks to have been made a priority. Short game field position for the opponent in '08 was a sore spot that might just be over. With fleet footed return specialists at Bristol, JC, and Kingsport it is good news none too soon. Not aware of the punting situation yet. Also, it seems Heath may get more and sooner reps at QB than previously anticipated. No hack on the Saint just a good utilyization of the bench which from viewing the spring drills is ready. And bit by bit it comes together. All eyes being on the passing game.
Rebel06
Fenyves = attitude... if Coach Carter can tame his attitude then he might be a good kicker....If not all you will have is ATTITUDE We will see................
WaCoJaCo
I was wondering how TJ is doing. Also will TM and RL be at LB this year? I heard that JT, BR & SH were all looking good at WR. Anybody know who will start at DE? I heard that the upcoming Soph. SM, will be there. Any truth to that? Also I look for VM, SJ, JT, BR, AM, CL & ST to all make all-state. Isn't WCJC a clever smart-aleck? Actually this thread is doing just what a thread should -- bringing people with genuine interest in and knowledge of a team together to discuss it. It's nice to know that DB AH's are so interested in SSHS football that they spend time reading it.
crawdad
Per M&J,back on thread topic: sounds like we are still searching for a 5th O-lineman looking at the projection. Who was there in the spring? Any chance Hammonds,Logue, or Redbone could play both ways? It is going to be a real luxury to have no one doing double duty if there is someone else to play O-line. I cannot remember that being the case in recent years. Also, is there any truth to the rumor that Coach Weston is considering retirement soon? I would hate to lose a coach of his caliber during the next few years.
