TSSAA messes up again.....George Quarles may not be able to Coach in the all american bowl and Matthew Pyke may not be able to play in the 8th grade all american bowl. Matthew Pyke is a Clinton Middle School O lineman that was accepted to the Junior All american bowl and has been named one of the top three O lineman coming out of Middle school in the nation. George Quarles is one of the best coaches in the nation and has been nominated as one of the head coaches for the High school all american game. Nither of these guys may not be able to enjoy the all american bowl because the Tssaa is behind the times compared to other states. If Pyke was to play he may have to sit out a season if the Tssaa doesnt approve them going. I know that Coach Quarles is meeting with the TSSAA on thrusday to try to get this approved. This would be a shame for a outstanding Coach and one of the best middle school lineman in America was not able to participate in this game. What are your thoughts?

it's funny that everyone is in an uproar over this. We have had high school seniors who have not been able to play in the AFLAC senior baseball game for several years now. Now they are not being selected for this prestigious honor because AFLAC does not want to fly them to California when TSSAA says they can't play or have to miss their senior year of baseball. We have screamed for a couple of years now on the baseball site about this.

This is garbage. For TN to be seen as even close to other states in terms of football strength then we must have representatives at these prestigious events. Coach Quarles being selected to coach here is huge and for TSSAA to stand in the way is completely out of order. They are like the Soviets keeping their best gymnist out of the olympics just because. I live in Hermitage maybe I should go speak to TSSAA.

Somebody needs to remind the T$$AA reps and board they can be FIRED just like any politician! dry.gif

This game does nothing but promote the State of Tn and its football programs and provides more scholarships than the T$$AA does for kids. Same goes for the Aflac game in Baseball.

Can we all tell I am about FED UP with the T$$AA!?!?

Problem is they turned down baseball last year for Sonny Gray even with a lawyer present so I don't think they will overrule it, too close to lawsuit if they made exception.

I hope they do because we have several baseball players who should be AFLAC if they change it. If not, they will be honorable mention and can only watch it on tv.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
