Dyer County vs. Union City

As surprised as you might think this is, I am with AAUFAN on this one...I'm shocked UC was able to get this thing to overtime....Playing DC in DC is tough enough with a real solid club let alone one that is probably the 3rd best team in their 1A district....UC does what they do by playing hard and being well coached even when they are obviously physically and athletically over-matched...There are NO moral victories in Union City basketball but this is as near one as there is...

I'll say one thing Purple..Most people on here seem to have Union City as the 3rd best team in the district..But the Union City team I saw last night would and can beat any of the teams in 14A..I know Lake Co and Humboldt are just getting some football players back in the groove and hopefully Lake Co will be the team I thought we may be..But based on what I've seen so far..I believe Union City is the better team..Dyer Co didn't get anything from Cody Gross due to foul trouble and also maybe not the best game from some of their other main players..but it would also be a dis-credit to Union City in saying that the Tornadoes have a bad team..They hustle..shot lights out last night and the team I saw last night against a taller team..gave it all they had..Lake Co doesn't have Dyer Co's height..at least not yet and it may not come..I wouldn't want to play Union City in a loser go home game at the end of the year..Lake Co has some athletes but really no shooters..Union City has a couple guys that can shhot from the outside..I'm not convinced that Lake Co is going to beat Halls unless the football players are strarting to get the basketball back in them..And that's another thing..I'm sure Union City has a least 1 or 2 players on the football team that can help them out,,if not start ..at least give them some minutes..

So this is a warning to all the Coacht posters now..if Halls beats Lake Co..or if Greenfield beats Lake Co..I haven't said Lake Co is the best team..lol..I thought they would be a contender based on what they had returning,,but I haven't seen that yet,,so until I do..I'm keeping mum..lol..Everyone let all the bad comments go to LC 007...lol

My count may be a little off on point totals but this is what I came up with for DC (Corrections are welcomed!)

Big Cedric Janes- 15

Fred Yarbrough- 22

John Hudson- 14

Robert Hubbs- 18

I sure didn't know Hudson had 14..I remember him hitting a 3 at the very start and maybe a couple free throws..He had a quiet night,at least to me..I thought Hubbs played very well for a freshman...

This is to my Lake Co buddies..two in particular ..And 1 that said this was the worst Union City team he'd ever seen..Posted that on here about 2 weeks ago..Remember that Chipper?Last night I was sitting with him and when the score was Dyer Co 16-2..my other buddy chimed in..Union City is terrible..I said ..ok guys..I saw them at Martin and their starting five is pretty good ..hustle..can shoot..Union City just doesn't have a bench..Have to play about 6 players all the way..May get a couple minutes out of one of the others..I kept telling them that Union City has a good team..don't yall say anything when Union City beats Lake Co by 10 points..Then all a sudden Union City stratred playing lights out..All they heard from me the rest of the night..Yea..That's the worst U.C. team yall have ever seen..I guess you know what the talk turned to then..?Dyer Co isn't any good..! I think both Dyer Co and Union City have fine ball clubs..I really thought Dyer Co would win this game by about 15 points before the game started..Dyer Co has a lot of talent but there will be some very good teams in Memphis waiting on them and Northside in the playoffs...I saw Southwind beat Union City about 3 days ago about 72 to 40 or something like that..Union City couldn't shoot over the taller Southwind players..And Melrose and White Station may better than Southwind..probably the best two teams in the state..

Not to take away from UC, but DC had 3 starters in foul trouble in the first quarter. Big Ced only had about 5 min in the 1st half. The refs were not consistant at all. You simply cannot let `em fight over the ball on one end and call a touch foul on the other.

Seeing the way DC jumped out to an early lead and then came back from 19 down to win by 10, I`d say that w/o foul trouble, DC could win easily by 20 -25 pts.

Don't start that refs this and refs that! Yes, they were in foul trouble, but you have to adjust to what they are calling! I give you that the refs weren't consistent at times, but you have to adjust to it!

i do have to say that uc did play harder than dc did. I think dc was thinking they was going to walk into that one playing uc and hoping to put the jv in at the half. now u got to consider that the refing wasn the best but refs do not win and lose games. dc is just a good ball team that can put a string of good plays together to win a game. i think that dc was also caught looking ahead to fridays match up against north side with it being the rematch of tournament last year. but if dc plays like they did last night they will get slaughtered not just by memphis teams but any one around here that plays them. They played many different ways last night none of them good but im thinking of one word in particular.....

You think that DC got caught looking forward to the No.Side game friday nite.I dont believe that was the case.Dyer Co jumped out to a 16-2 lead.Dont seem like a team looking forward to a game against No.Side.I told 007 that UC has a better team than he thought.UC can play with DC,but have to give DC credit for coming back from 18 down to win in OT.It was a good game by both teams, but DC is not 20-25 pts better than UC.

I agree beavo....

Ever since there has been a Sisco on the bench at Union City the main objective is to be ready by tournament time....Sisco schedules good teams and tries to go play in good tournaments to get his team ready for Feb. and March....It hurts the won-loss sometimes but it gets them ready to see good athletes...

Coach McCord has been doing the same thing at Dyer County since he came here. I believe it will be another tough game at the end of the season.

i already knew you were not the sharpest tool in the shed but mccord does not do the same thing as union city. union city has played a tougher out of district schedule every year than dyer co has since mccord has been there. he plays a cupcake schedule to run up the wins so he can say he won 100 out of 113. that is not impressive for a 3a team when you play 1a and weak 2a teams all year. uc 1a dc 3a.

I wonder where's admom? Ohh well the show must go on. Yes Dyer County plays a soft schedule but i'm goin to be honest as I can be. DC will make it to region no problem but the game with reigh egypt will be a hard one to win in the region along with Craigmont. Plus North Side in the same district. But The substate will be the end of all team in this region without a doubt in my mind. Melrose and White Station are as good as it get in the nation in high school basketball. I don't know if anyone except Casey Prater and Maybe the Johnson kidd from Liberty could make the melrose Roster from ruel west tennessee. They are Loaded from the starting lineup to the end of the bench. Dyer County really needs to lose about 100 or so students so that it can go back to 2a and compeat for a gold ball.

The impressive part of your entire statement is....... OH WAIT, I can't think of anything.... Name a cupcake team Dyer County has played? UC? No they are better than what you think. Houston? No game was scheduled before Todd Mayo decided to go to Germantown. McCord tries to get top competition, but Liberty decided they didn't want to play with DC in any sport anymore (Source: Dyer County Administration) and we try to schedule games close to home due to the economy... Fork over some more tax payer dollars and support the school system and maybe Dyer County would be able to get some more competition like White House, Melrose, and any other Memphis school that would want to play the Choctaws.

GO CHOCTAWS! :D
