State predictions anyone?

You sound like a dad who has a certain beef with an official. By the way, Im sure you will see me, bororef, and nashvilleref come mid feb at the ag center working the state tourney. Have you seen any of us call matches? We are all three pretty good..and we will be working state.

And not conceited at all! :roflolk:

Seriously, I have not seen you call any matches but I believe you are a 1st year official and extremely biased towards one program in the state. It would be a huge mistake to have a rookie ref - especially when there are so many good experienced refs available - calling matches in a the state's biggest and potentially a single elimination tournament where a bad call in an early match could cost a team dearly. Maybe you are calling the girls state?

StarRaider,

Read what is being said: "working the state tournament". He is not saying calling the state tournament. This could mean a multitude of positions: ie, running bout sheets from mat table to head table, towel tapper, keeping score of matches at the table, keeping the clocks, etc. Heck, it could mean they will be the "Get Back Police" where they ask the coaches and everybody to get back from the mats.

Ok listen and then im done with the two of you. I will be doing something at the state tourney, whether it be working a table or reffing i dont know. I am a first year official, WITH TSSAA, I have reffed for a long time. Also, all season so far, I have been getting nothing but compliments from coaches all over, saying I look like ive been doing it for years. The personal attacks are beyond the point of funny and are treading into the point of annoying. I may be an Indy fan but only cause my brother wrestles 125 for them, I have not called one match of theirs and I wont be calling any of them. I call what I see, just cause I may be a fan of a certain team DOES NOT mean I automatically am gonna make sure they win if i ref any of them. Thats the most obserd accusation I have ever heard. Face, I dont know who you are, but Starraider, I lost a lot of respect for you today with the personal attacks. Bye. See you Feburary.

The Thread says, State Predictions Anyone?...

It doesn't say excluding coaches, officials and/or persons associated with the TSSAA. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, to insist or accuse an official of being bias is anything but the truth. I've officiated matches of some of the best kids in the state. However, I've never been bias and I called the match right down the middle as any official should. It's for that reason that I officiate some of the best tournaments in the state.

When I posted my predictions I was doing so as a fan of the sport. I'm smart enough to seperate the two worlds of officiating and being a fan of the sport.

Great Job! :thumb: StarRaider, this would be a compliment. I don't know what it is worth but it is a compliment since we are now telling people about the compliments we are receiving.

Not sure why I was mentioned. I only stated there is a difference in "calling the state" and "working the state". I guess something stung. Not sure.

State Predictions - I predict BCB and BuckLateral will be at the state tournament. I also predict they will snarl at one another again about the state before the tournament starts. :roflolk:

Anybody else got any predictions?

Unclebuck and I snarling at each other? I got all the love for buckypoo plus I've seen pics ( of course they were in black and white) of bucmiester in a singlet, and I don't think I could take him.

I just snarled over on the Teams at The Ryan Tournament topic.

There you go hurling false accusations about me again. There are no known pics of me in a singlet because I never fit in a singlet---------I could only fit in a "doublet" that would have to be special ordered because it would require professional grade spandex. Any pics of that were long ago seized under Tennessee pornography laws and destroyed.

I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion on here and it would be great if it really worked out the way you say. But the fact is that it doesn't! In your own post you even mention "as any official should," not as they do. I'm guessing your quote came out this way because you have probably seen a match at some point where the official determined the winner of a match instead of the wrestlers. I have watched matches that don't matter to me one way or the other who the winner is and could still tell you afterwards that a kid got hosed.

you think?

Happens more often than people think. An official should NEVER decide a match, but unfortunately it happens. More in the state of TN, than most places we've traveled to. Not sure why that is, but when an OPINIONated call decides a match, it's never a good thing. Clear cut calls should and have to be made, but the rest should be left up to the kids. You adults that think you are above this, are the ones that killing the sport for the kids. But my guess is that you don't care to truly take a hard look at yourself and adjust the things that you are missing.

Clear cut calls are certainly the objective of an official. However, there are some instances that are left to judgement using the rules as a guide to justify that position. Are mistakes made, well of course. But, if one mistake causes an unfair advantage to one wrestler over the other it's one mistake to many.

agreed, but the problem is, way too often the refs are making calls that are determining the outcome of the match, and this should never happen. Now, I'm not saying that "once in a while a call that is made, may be questionable, and will make a difference". What I'm saying is that calls that are totally questionable, or obviously the wrong call, are being made (or not being made) and these make a HUGE difference in the match outcome.

Shouldn't happen. Refs need to stay as much out of it as they can, and also need to have thicker skin. If you can't, then don't ref. Do everyone a favor, and just be a fan. Do not involve yourself in the match, let the two wrestlers decide the match. They will almost everytime, if left alone.

2blleg, you seem pretty intent on grilling these refs, now I'm not saying TN officials are the best in the country, but until you get out there and try it then you might think about the subject a little differently once you've had a few blown/bad calls yourself. I also think you are blowing the issue of "blown calls determining matches" way out of proportion. You're making it sound like it happens every other match which is nonsense.

    • I have no clue if Derek tried to talk some since into his dad or not about staying here. All he is going to accomplish is going from the oven to the frying pan. If I were the coach all Ale would freze over before I set back and watched one of my good players leave without a fight.
    • If this is true, South Gibson is taking a big chance. Passing on an experienced coach for a guy who has never coached at the high school level is a high risk move, especially in that district and region.

    • Jo Byrns was a very solid team last year. Imo, I thought they presented the biggest challenge for us on our path to winning it all last year. I expect them to be in the conversation and one of the final few teams playing in Murfreesboro
    • I'm not sure you understand anything if you think DB's career and AD's career are comparable.  This is a terrible take.   Not to slight AD, He was a good player and he got better as he matured after high school.   But Desean had over 8,000 yards in HS and was a two-time Mr. Football.
