Coach Harrison told me on Wednesday that this game has been moved to Thursday.

The last Powell Valley -- Claiborne County game. I actually played against both schools back in the early 90s when I was at Oliver Springs. Between the '91 & '92 seasons the team and I were 3-1 against the pair when there was only 3 classifications.

A moment or two I will never forget would be both home games in '92. We beat Powell Valley 34-21 after building a 28-0 halftime lead. At halftime, some very idiotic, rebel fans (actually classmates--even though hardly anybody claims them--myself included) trashed the PV locker room--firing them up on our homecoming. Boy, did they ever fight back. I'll also never forget during that game the final play. Leading 28-21, our coach called a kneel down at the 3 with only 5 ticks left to play after a PV timeout. Instead of taking a knee, the QB called a slant pass--to me of all people and told me I had better catch it. I caught it more ways than I care to mention--a TD and from the coach. He had to apologize to the PV coach and made us run, run, and run some more.

As for the Claiborne game that season, it was a rainy and scoreless game on Senior night until very late. I dropped the ball of the block on a field goal from the right hash from about 34yds out. Instead of freaking out, our Brazilian kicker put it right down the middle for 3. The year before at Claiborne was a different story, Claiborne County won so bad I can't recall the score. It was about 35-12 or something like that.

As for the upcoming matchup, someone tell me how the players feel about merging after all these years?? In a squeaker, nailbiter, and hard-fought contest I'll take PV just because they are playing at home

PV and Claiborne aren't merging, PV is combining with Forge Ridge.

Claiborne is just moving down the road into a new buildong and taking 'County' out of their name. PV and Forge Ridge will form Cumberland Gap, which will be near LMU in Harrogate. It'll be right off the same road that PV is, but it'll be near to H.Y. Livesay Middle from what I hear.

I remember the Brazilian kicker Answer. I think OS popped Rutledge twice in 91 and 92 during our 18-game losing streak. I suffered through trying to make loses sound not so bad on play-by-play. Good thing it was a tape-delay.

I was a Freshman at that game on the Powell Valley sideline. I remember we walked in at halftime and found all of are clothes in the shower or in the toliet. It was a good second half, and I remember the final play to. The head coach for Oliver Springs was so mad, I can just imagine what it was like for the players at practice after that.

Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
