NoLife. In no particular order, somethings to digest.....

1. Many students

a) prefer to stay close to home.

:popcorneater: prefer to goto college with friends from high school

2. The Hope Scholarship doesn't cross state lines.

3. As a whole, Tennessee is not yet recognized as a recruiting area for soccer players

(like Texas, California, etc). There are exceptions, a lot of that comes from the visibility at ODP.

4. A lot of Tennessee club teams don't travel out of the state to high visibility tournaments, hence

they don't get the consistent visibility from the colleges you are referring to.

5. Univ of Tenn & Vandy have not recruited players from their own state until the last several years.

6. As the level of play in Tennessee has elevated, so too has the level of play outside Tennessee.

The only thing that seems to remain stagnant, is the officiating.

7. Playing as a freshman at the smaller programs has a higher likelihood than at a larger program.

8. Smaller program coaches seem to have carte blanche when you consider all of the above.

As there is finally a consolidation of clubs, we will likely see much stronger teams surface in Tennessee that can compete with the best teams at the Showcase events. Our ability to make rosters of higher profile teams has significantly improved over the past 5 years. I think the economy has also taken its toll and more players are having to go to the program that offers them the most complete financial package.

That oughta stir things up.

Its been very boring on this board.

:popcorneater:

Correct!

Regardless of what you write, it takes only attending one game to defray it.

One game, one minute of one game may give someone an opinion, but it isn't necessarily a qualified opinion. It is just an opinion based on a limited perspective. Its a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion. However to "defray" or damage a large body of work by witnessing one mishap, albeit not in the context of a big picture, is akin to the mob mentality that can have damaging effects and backlashes. That approach really is faulty reasoning since it takes everything out of context and belongs in the category of "I can criticize, but can not compliment". This explains why you were so caustic about the vertical slice in the UNM-BYU game. I have never read a complimentary post that you have had with officiating. I challenge you to compliment the efforts of these people in the upcoming season, as distasteful as it is to you.

In the true spirit of an official, you contradicted yourself in the first and third sentence...much like the officials do in the first and second periods. One mishap....one mishap...like it only changes the outcome of that game..and another changed the outcome of advancing in the playoffs. The bottom line, rules are rules, they are not subject to your or anyone else's interpretation. Offsides is offsides, out of play is out of play. over the goal line is over the goal line. Cussing is Cussing. Me....? I am in the same position as the linesman....I see what he sees.

Yes, there are a few who call a consistent accurate game. They are doing what they are paid to do. No need to compliment.

And thank you for the encouragement. I will continue to drive this bus until it is corrected.

Canes you don't get it. Don't bait. The missive wasn't about referees. It was about people who aren't referees that think they are or think they know better how a game should be called. You think you have all the answers. You are what Shakespeare says "full of sound and fury.." Actually rules of the game are subjective for the referee. That is the beauty of soccer. Because you chose to interpret rules as black and white, it degrades from the beautiful game. You are not in the same position as the lineman. Its about angles and parallax. If you are following the linesman up and down the line, maybe, but then that would be pathetic. When I am in the stands, I would rather watch the game than watch the refs.

I was polite with the Shakespeare.. the rest of the line... "signifying nothing..."...applies. You can ride your bus, but it will not change things, no one cares. The Mali referee worked the 4th today between Italy-NZ. FIFA will probably send him home. The precursor of the phrase applies as well....you figure it out.

Athletes dedicate their lives to the sport, train for hours a day to have some idiot make a call in front of the world's stage....

The guy got a poor rating and is gone. The referee evaluation system works. Referee assessors judged him, not the world, not you. Without players there is no sport. Without referees there is no game.
