Seigel vs Melrose

First Off what is the purpose for this silly argument. Remember Melrose was ranked in the nation long before they got the 2 transfers. They got into the substate last year with the big 3. They was ranked and undefeated long before Parks or Ced became a factor. Ced really still has not quite fit in. Took parks deep into second half of the season. This team would still be here without those players. As I said before, its the big 3 that got them here. Jones, Thomas and Rucker. Melrose cannot function without either one of them.

Forgotten in all of this "transfer" talk....

Melrose LOST a solid post player (and likely starter) during the off-season, to White Station:

That player -- Nino Johnson. Starting forward. 6'- 7" (or 6-8).

Traderb I think if Nino had stayed at Melrose they would be undefeated. Nino and Nate in the line up would be rough.

I agree.

There are two key differences between this Melrose team and that undefeated Hamilton team, IMHO:

1) Rebounding -- Hamilton DOMINATED most (if not all) teams, especially offensive rebounds.

2) Post Scoring -- Hamilton had TWO prolific post-scorers (Watkins and Williams).

Of course, Melrose has NOT won the State Title (yet)! They are a clear favorite, IMO, but still...

Memphis basketball should be referred to as the MBA. They trade players and make deals like the NBA. No coaching is involved. Just recruiting. Notice all the talk is about who has the best players. Just recruit 7 D1 players and you don't have to coach. Good philosophy. People talk about the private vs public school recruiting... Maybe they should look at memphis public schools. The residents of murfreesboro just better hope that new central magnet school doesn't start sucking all of the athletes out of the schools!! Just watch... It will happen.

Southwind, Central, and Ridgeway received no transfers and were very good teams. Craigmont didn't get any either and was still a good team. So we can debate all we want about Memphis being the MBA or recruiting central point is Memphis still has the best talent and best players, and I would take Coach Henning and Coach Edwards over anybody in the state my friend.

i'm pulling for Siegel but it doesn't look real good, however Melrose seems to be a little too confident! (well, their fans anyway) Maybe Dodson's got something up his sleeve! You never know! lol

Yea gopackers I think well, I know its just us fans having fun talking smack. The kids are so far from this stuff. Im sure the coaches keeping them in check. Im sure Melrose coach having everyone on this side of the Dalai Lama speaking to them LOL

    • Sorry Barn. I wasn’t specific enough. It seems I’m always protecting the principal at 825. My interactions with her have been extremely positive, but very limited. With all the other stories being told, I’m confident there are other sides I am not aware of. Regardless, there are lots of decent people earning good checks up there. Maybe too good, which explains why no one is willing to speak up. My beef is with the poor communication among the athletic programs and with the administration. Seven years ago the poor communication led to my son missing graduation due to a sporting event that was planned months before. I chalked it up to the system being totally shocked that the baseball team made it out of their district, and our then AD was a football coach. Maybe they were surprised and did not plan appropriately. That was more palatable than they just didn’t give a crap. Déjà vu, seven years later, same thing. Different administration, but same result.  Maybe in seven more years, it will actually be “about the kids”. They should do better.
