The 2010 District 8AA tournament got underway last night at Baxter with the favorite to win the district, #1 Dekalb Co., losing to #4 Smith Co. 5-6. After that game, #3 Livingston beat #2 Upperman 2-0. Two upsets early in this tournament. Can't wait to see how it all pans out in the end cause it will be a good one! :thumb:

After reading the Hereald Citizen article and knowing what I saw Friday night/Sat. morning, it's obvious me and the HC writer were watching 2 seperate games. Obstruction calls are never easy except for the guy writing the HC article and they were real obvious to him (not to anyone else I'd say except Upperman fans) And I can see how your girl lost the "wrestling match" with the LA catcher. RK is the #1 girl wrestler on the LA girls wrestling team. TC, must be an Upperman grad. Write about the game buddy and quit crying about the umps. You/Upperman lost. Take your medicine and go on. If you play well enough, then maybe you will play LA again and hopefully, for your/Upperman sake, get some smarter umps.

IF there were any obstructions NOTcalled that is not what lost the game for the bees;i believe it would be the lack of hits that they managed; Last night a good game between Smith and Livingston with LA coming out on top;. waiting to see who they will play in championship game. ( i wonder if this was another no-hitter by Smith's pitcher[freshman talent article] that was a loss?

After dropping into the losers bracket of the district tournament last week, the Tigerettes have fought their way back to the championship game and are just one win away from the tournament title.

The game will be played today (Wednesday) against Livingston Academy at 5:00 p.m. at Upperman High School in Baxter.

Meanwhile, local selections on the All-District Teams are as follows:

First Team- Cynthia Woodward, Morgan Page, Kristina Stephens, and Alex Meadows

Second Team- Jaylen Garrett

Honorable Mention- Olivia Norton

Olivia Gore from Upperman was named the District's Most Valuable Player.

Two former Tigerettes were also inducted into the District Softball Hall of Fame from DeKalb County, Elisha Vickers from the 2001 team and Brandi Fish from the 1998 squad.

On Tuesday, the Tigerettes eliminated both Upperman 7 to 5 and Smith County 13 to 3, before taking on Livingston Academy, the only team standing in their way of the tournament championship. DeKalb County defeated the Lady Wildcats 7 to 6 Tuesday night, but since they already had a loss, the Tigerettes have to beat Livingston Academy again to take the crown.

In the game with Upperman Tuesday, the Tigerettes scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the third, and two runs in the sixth inning. Upperman scored five runs in the sixth inning.

Olivia Norton, the winning pitcher, went seven innings and gave up five runs on five hits. She walked two.

In the second game, the Tigerettes scored nine runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth. Smith County scored three runs in the first inning.

In the nightcap, the Tigerettes scored two runs in the first inning and five runs in the fifth inning. Livingston Academy scored five runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
