KWoodroof
There are strong rumors swirling around West End that, due to a myriad of athletic and academic setbacks during the 2009-2010 school year, the local all-male high school may be shuttering its doors at the close of this year. Apparently the "e"-ffect of recent new school development in West Nashville finally has had the debilitating impact it was supposed to have. A runner-up finish in football and titles in cross country, swimming, basketball, and tennis supposedly have left the Boys of Momma begging for mercy from the athletic gods (and who knows what morale will be like for supporters after track later this week). Add in having only the second most National Merit Semifinalists but the most Finalists in the state, and you have the proverbial perfect storm of events that have led the Board to say "no mas". Hey, it was a good 143-year run while it lasted... If rumors of the school closure over at "4001" prove to be true, then I'm going with MUS for the three-peat. Lord knows the area DII Nashville schools will be utterly diluted with an infusion of former underachieving Crimson & Silver student-athletes looking for a new home. Good riddance! The closure can't come soon enough. An indifferent atheltic legacy and shifltess, utterly undistinguished alumni doomed this venture from the start, as anyone with half a brain could have predicted as early as 1869. Any of the students still left there (Are there any? Didn't enrollment decline to nothing in the past three years?) should have their remaining athletic eligibility terminated simply for having been associated with the place. Not sure what to do with this tattoo though.
JodyJoe
Will Brentwood be playing OB or Southwind again this year? Or were those one year games.

Memphis89
Brentwood will play Kingsbury, Southwind, and Olive Branch the first 4 weeks of the season. Most likey they'll win all three games. They will blow out Kingsbury, have a more competitive game with Southwind, but win by 3 or 4 possessions, and will have a close game with OB who has lost alot. BA should be able to handle them pretty easily. MUS, on the other hand, will have their hands full with South Panola next year. The Tigers are LOOOOAAADED! That game could get out of hand very quickly. South Panola will be top 5 in the nation next year. You heard it here first.

Man, thank goodness that football is almost here! ------------------------------------------------ Memphis89, From what I've read about BA and know about Kingsbury, SW and OB...I think that your predictions are very darn accurate. It sounds like BA is going to have a pretty darn good team this year. As for MUS' 2010 team.... well, I'll address that question in the next post. MUS' September 3rd home game vs South Panola, MS will give us a very early and accurate gauge about the quality of MUS' team and whether they can challenge BA. ----------------------------------------------------------- Given all the talented starters that South Panola has returning this season, it will be absolutely shocking to see ANY team stay within 2 TD's of them. Their team is widely expected to be EXPONENTIALLY better than last year's team (if you can imagine that) and, according to many of its fans, arguably one of the best South Panola teams ever! That's saying an awful lot about the lofty expectations of this SP's 2010 team, given all the dominant State Championship teams that they've fielded over the years. If MUS is able to stay within 14 to 17 points of South Panola, then I predict that MUS to have another Championship-caliber team and will make a serious run at a 3-peat! On the other hand, should MUS get steam-rolled by 28 points or more, then I doubt that MUS will be very good this year. They will more likely lose to BA....and many other teams on its schedule. shakinthefat
The 4 teams that have a chance are....Baylor, MBA, EHS, and Olive Branch. Baylor will be a sleeper in DII AA E/M and BA has to go to the Baylor campus, always hard to win there. MBA will be a home game for BA and they will try to erase the state semi-final game from last year. EHS will also be a home game for BA, but EHS is is unproven at QB and RB. Olive Branch will bring a offensive line that averages close to 290lbs to BA for a out of state matchup that will be a very good game.
