Hey ZonePirate: Let him know that he is one tough fella. Most guys would have laid there and called it a night. I was very diappointed about last night and the referee made some really bad calls that were crucial on both sides of the ball, however I do agree we were manhandled by a team that took the game much more serious than we did. We came out healthy though, and that is the most important post-game factor. Kudos to PC for having such a fine group of senior leadership. Let #12 know that we will be fine, and so will he. We are no doubt the favorite to win a gold ball this year. One playoff game at a time. I know I talk alot of smack every week on here, but it is only to have fun. Football is about teaching a young man character, accountability, and teamwork. The SPHS staff does a fine job at doing just that.-------HowiePirate!---Class of 1985!

Thanks Howie...I will let him know.

Big Sow....you won by a fieldgoal last year....I don't think that counts as being manhandled. That game could have gone either way.

Last night was a manhandling by Polk County. I think it is just what the Pirates needed to get focused for the playoffs. Once you realize you are not unbeatable, it usually increases the hard work and focus of a team.

i hope that is wat it takes to get the focused cuz g ville is playin good ball of wat i herd and if they wanna be them they gonna have to play super good

Congrads to the Cats. Best overall TEAM effort I've seen in a long time. Thought it was the best effort by the D-line all year and we had to have it. O-line worked their butts off ( SP has some huge O and D linemen so you cant say Polk was a lot bigger size wise granted we have more numbers). Yes SP had turnovers but Polk turned it over also in the early going. Good teams make their breaks and both of these team are good and you expect them to turn the other team over. Most successfull senior class in school history and most have been playing big roles for three years. Very fortunate to have been blessed with a group like this on and off the field! Lee, Hargrove, and Allen are such a great blend of great tallent in different areas of the game and compliment each other so well. Throw in the youngsters in Akins, Saxe, and Mull and thats one of the deepest groups of skill guys we've had in a long time. Polk fans will remember this bunch for a long time.

As for South Pitt you all don't need to jump off that big bridge down there yet. You know your a good team, too bad a FEW of your fans want to get all doomesday and the coaches that were so great become dummies overnight (those folks sound like Bradley fans lol). AS for the QB, cut the kid some slack. He was getting swarmed all night. When he got up in the second half after Hargrove (best linebacker I've ever seen here) PLANTED him from the blind side that was enough to make me a fan. GUTS. Most guys would have called it a night at that point. Good luck to you in the playoffs and I am sure you will go far. Thanks for the good words from the classy SP fans on here. Respect is gotten when respect is given.

Gotta toot another (same ? ) horn for the O-line.#77,Norwood,and our boy # 51 C,Soos,#64,Parris,#49,Hammons,#55,Phillips. 77 and 51 lined up like that when they were 5-6 years old.Been a blast watching all of 'em ,and yes I second the absolute notion of the TEAM effort. I remember coaching some of these boys you mention when they were Crickets. How time flys when yer havin' fun. :thumb:

Slim, I will make you a bet if you come to the game I will buy ya a cheeseburger and coke if we don't beat them by at least 4 touchdowns :thumb: As one of their coaches said, Coach M. to be precise..they don't have it this year..they have one guy who is so cocky and thinks he runs the team and when he plays a team like SP he will get shut down..his words not mine..Their QB is good as I have stated before..but the rb..well..we willjust see what he can do agaisnt a quality team in 3-4 weeks

get ripped by a middle of the road 3a team and still talk like world beaters. sp stock just fell.

go into a game with the " no worries" attitude you will get beaten again.your crazy if you think sp is that much better than gordonsville. we have played as good or better than polk this year and have been nowhere near the mercy beatdown.i would be worried. no wonder why everyone loves to see you all get thrashed, look at the crap talk usually 150 to 210 pages of it every week. better get you a game plan to handle big physical teams because thats what gordonsville has. dont forget we are a little fast too. no worries for them pirates.

Ok look...you are no wear close to as good as polk..I seen yall play..I have seen yall on film against 3 separate teams...Yall are decent..I will just say that..Signal Mountain and Polk would both hang 50+ on yall..as Gordonsville being physical..hit that RB and the fb he follows once and he lays down...again..that is according to you guys coaching staff not my words..but I seen that with my on eyes last year....like I said before..good luck..survive 3 weeks..and then the game will play itself out...Goodluck

Sorry, wasnt trying to slight the linemen (heck i was one) thats why I mentioned them first. Usually we're recognized as a unit anyway but agree. Hope Josh is in good shape. Looked like he got shook up at one point but stayed in and battled as always. Love those linemen.

JUST HOPE TENNESSEE'S LINEMAN PLAY AS HARD AS THOSE POLK COUNTY LINEMAN DID AGAINST US LAST NIGHT.-------HOWIEPIRATE!

I garuntee you I tried to tell Howie that those Polk boys were real good. I had read about them in my Murphy Fair book. PowerP, Howie, and others needs to respect some of these teams like Gordonsville and Copper Basin. I have read about them in my book and they are real good too. Grider better get our boys strong for the playoffs or we will go home the first round. That was a bunch of mess last night. Polk was knocking holes in our line every play. I garuntee you that you better read about these Copper boys and Gordonsville before we play them. They are just as good as us. You think im joking but im not.

First of all this powerp guy is probably not affiliated with the football team at all.

You are right uncle! We wont be in the hunt this year . We only have 3 seniors on the team. We will be playing for it all again in a year or 2.but If we played the cupcakes yall play (in your district that is) we would be In the middle of it again. Its MAN SIZED FOOTBALL.

BigSwo, why do you say such bizarre things? Those teams in west Tennesseee like Gleason, Bruceton, West Carroll, Lake County, South Fulton, are GOOD? Are you kidding? South Pitt got beat by a GOOD 3A team. Period! BTW, South Pittsburg only has a handful on seniors as well. They are primarily juniors and sophomores.

Middle of road 3A team? :roflol::roflol: Past Tiger you are funny. Will Polk County win it all in 3A? NO they won't. They would have to play Alcoa before that happened. They would however be considered a top TEN 3A team. Middle of the road would put them around 30th. You make yourself sound bad with comments like that one.

I am not associated with the team you would be correct...but I do know alot about what goes on within the team...all sp has to do is play to their ability and they will be fine...I don't care if we beat someone by 63 or 3..come playoff time a win is a win and thats all we sp fans want to see..march to the gold

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
