Well its senior night for the Devils friday night, so i just wanted to share this. I saw this on another thread and thought it was appropriate.

Dear FOOTBALL MOM/DAD,

You dreaded this year’s arrival, but it has come just the same. A year that is full of promise, but so many “last timesâ€.

Over the year’s you have helped with countless team meals, washed mounds of sweaty uniforms, chauffeured to more early practices than you care to remember.

You have been top of the world, elated when your son has had a good night and endured his deathlike silences when he hasn’t. It is amazing how the family mood bobs with the rhythm of each game.

You have laughed, cried, screamed, sulked, pouted, sweated, pulled your hair, bit your nails, bit your tongue, paced, worried, frowned, and smiled all very gracefully and within a two hour span.

Such is the life of a football mom/dad.

You may not be in on the big play, but you feel the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat right along with your son. You keep your composure when some fan behind you wants your son’s head while the opponent on the field is mashing it into the grass. “Get off him, that’s my baby†you’d like to shout.

You breathe football at this time of year, especially this time of year when your heart whispers “just a little longer†as the season slides by. You plead and bargain, knowing full well that some other mom/dad on the opponent’s team is making her/his own deal with the Almighty. But you do it anyway, because you no more want it to end than your son does. You do not want to see the desperation in his eyes and the pain on his face as he struggles to put away childhood dreams. You are helpless in the stands, with no way to make it better.

IS IT WORTH IT?

YOU BET IT IS!

Every lost game sock, every busy Friday night, every recovering Saturday, every aspirin, every ruined hair do, hot bath, goose bumps, and every obnoxious fan and sports writer you’ve had to tolerate is worth it. The fun isn’t measured by how many times your son gets into the newspaper, the game, or what he does when he gets there.

The fun-what makes those trips to the ER for the pigskin stitches all worthwhile, is watching a game. What a sport experience can do to convert your little boy into a young man. Watching him tackle the world and you have a front seat.

You still see that rambunctious 5 year old playing ball in the yard. You bite your lip and hold back the tears because though you are fiercely proud of the young man he has become, you miss the boy. In fact you mourn for all the little boys. You have watched them grow up together, plot and scheme together, win and lose together. They have raided your kitchen, camped out in your basement, stole your heart. They are blessed with something they will never have again. They know it and you know it.

So you pray that wonder will last another game, and then another, because as long as it does, you hang on to a piece of your boy for a bit longer. Watching him walk off that field one last time will be no less painful than giving birth to him all those years ago.

We will miss this group of young men.

We will miss watching them run on to the field like soldiers going to battle, the hi-fives after a great play, the chest slams after a great tackle, the celebrations over a big win and the sober faces after a disappointing loss.

We will miss watching the boys we love, play the game they love. FOOTBALL.

That’s what I'm talking about! If you don't have a kid playing you don’t feel the emotions that we as parents do. That's why we defend any and every thing about our Blue Devils. My compassion isn't for the school, it isn't for the Coach, AND IT'S NOT FOR THE BELOVED PROGRAM! It’s all about my baby boy and all the other boys that play together. Let us not forget, it’s the KIDS THAT MAKE UP A BALL TEAM. That’s why I want one more game. TO SEE OUR BOYS ON THE FIELD ONE MORE TIME! WHOOOOO WHOOOOOOOO! fire up the BDP TRAIN. ITS TIME TO LET IT ROLL FRIDAYNIGHT!

Buddy, you need to change your username if you have given up on BDP!! I like White House's chances if they can get to week 11!! Coach Porter will have the boys ready to play on Friday. I believe that their strength of schedule has helped prepare the Devils for playoff football!!

Whatever man. Be realistic, and before you say anything, my son played and graduated from White House. Even if we win this Friday night, and I expect them too, WH still will not have beaten a team with a winning record. DO YOU REALLY think they deserve to play in week 11? REALLY ? BDP and all that other stuff aside, we just arent that good this year. Every program has a downslide and we have been lucky not to have one until the last 2 years. Pride is one thing but Talent wins Championships. Why go to week 11 if you dont have a team that can win the whole thing? Since the TSSAA went to these extra classifications they are letting not so good teams into the playoffs to pad thier own pockets. They dont care about the kids or what might happen in week 11. Its all about money for them, thats all. Im not bashing the program, Porter or anybody else, and I am surely not bashing the kids but the product on the field is just not there this year. Its not the kids fault.......

I agree that TSSAA has lost their minds. It's a shame they couldn't leave "well enough" alone.

You know what Im saying Cat, and we havent always agreed on things over the years. Its just tainting any accomplishment to let a 5-5 team in or one with a loosing record just so they can say we made it to the playoffs. And before anybody goes there, Livingston did it in the old classifications when it meant something

My opinion is TSSAA abuses their authority. Just like in Nascar or any sport that is dominated year in and year out by the same team, TSSAA got tired of that and has thrown in a confusing and crazy set of rules to make teams with less ability to play powerhouses and have set them up to be sitting ducks in the playoffs. There is no rhyme or reason to teams that have down years. Every team goes through it at some point but I thought the playoffs were to be to match up who has the upper standings and let them duke it out. Apparently TSSAA has lost that logic.

Montgomery Central---5-4--VS-- Waverly----------4-5

Covington---------------5-4--VS-- Westview---------6-3

Kingsbury---------------4-5--VS-- Manassa----------4-5

East Ridge--------------4-5--VS-- Howard-----------7-2

Obion County----------4-5--VS-- Ripley-------------7-2

Marshall County-------4-5--VS-- Giles Co-----------7-2

Macon County----------4-5--VS-- Westmorland------2-7

White House---------4-5--VS-- Sycamore---------3-6

Livingston Academy-----4-5--VS-- DeKalb Co---------3-6

Stratford--------==-------3-7--VS-- open

Creek Wood-------=------3-6--VS-- Chester Co-------4-5

Look over the teams above White House. There are several teams that have some pretty tough games ahead. If we can win, and by looking at the other games around us we could move up the ladder a bit. Maybe just maybe we do catch GREENBRIAR IN THE FIRST ROUND! It would be better than going to Liberty Magnet.

That sounds about right to me. Sycamore will not be able to stop the duo of Johnson to McEwen. They will both have a big games and White House wins easy. 56-8 :roflol:

Yea but when WH gets in the playoffs McEwen will be double covered so johnson is hanna have to start passing the ball around(no offense to either one of them)

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
