AC vs. Powell

There is one thing that I expect to see from AC on Friday night, and if average joe fan expects it, I'm sure Matt Lowe expects it. I think Gillum will roll Williams out of the pocket on a regular basis, which we didn't see at all in the first meeting. I didn't really see anyone do this against Powell until the Karns game, but every team Powell has played since has used it to neutralize the D-line pressure. Hardin Valley and Clinton did it effectively, at times, but Powell was able to adjust to it defensively, especially in the second half. Last week's game against Mo East was the best Powell has defended the QB rollout, and with multiple defensive looks.

They will not be the same team come Friday night this game will come down to the wire..Cant wait :popcorneater: What time gates open last time was about 5:40 but it start 30 min early so you think they will open at 5:00?

Don't believe everything you hear from "reliable sources", ZCAR. There are way too many reliable sources out there, and none of them seem to have a clue.

I suppose your right. I just hate to see a young gifted athlete not participate. But time will tell. Still good luck to the Panther nation. :thumb:

I heard today that dyshawn mobley is practicing with the team..I do not know what that means but i got told that today.

From what I've been told he's running with the scout teams on offense and defense but is not playing in games. I wonder if this is a good thing or a distraction?

I would say right now a distraction. I honestly think though if he is practicing with the team right now than we might see him if the panthers go deep in the playoffs.

I know this is not the most popular statement to make...but here goes. Let's hope Gillum DOES NOT roll Wms out. He's too slow. That was my meaning to my previous reference comparing Wms to Price and Longmire. Williams IS NOT a mobile qb. Yeah, he can throw the ball 70 yards. (Kudos to Wms for that). Williams strength does NOT lie outside the pocket. (Yeah, yeah General First Class. I know I am BASHING the kid again. I DO NOT support the Mavericks and I am a dirty low life scum that crawled out from underneath a rock somewhere...oh,well!)

But, who knows? Maybe they practiced THAT this week! :popcorneater:

Yes, Mobley is at practice and running Scout Offense and Defense. Personally, I think that it is a good sign for Powell fans because there will always be a "chance" to see him back in action later down the road since he IS practicing and still part of the teams daily routines. I dont think we see him this week though. Maybe its a situation like the movie "Coach Carter" and he is having to do extra running or something to earn his way back into action. It will come down to the coaching staff to make the decision, Lets keep our fingers crossed!

My Prediction comes a day early this week. AC applies a few "new" techniques to their Offense this week and will get them 3 scores on Powell. The Panthers come back strong each time and hits AC with 5 scores.

Well it has been a good season for the Mavericks two times in the playoffs for Coach Gillum,Price and the staff. It has been fun, ScoreAtwill! Good luck to Powell and we are behind you. Great season Mavericks! You played your heart's out. Let no team (Powell) take that from you. Get ready for next year and remember "You can do all things through Christ"! Go Mavericks!!!!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
