Congratulations to both teams on making it to the championship game....I would agree with the one who posted that Trezevant has been a dark horse in the 4A, but now everyone sees they are a good ballteam...They played a disciplined and mostly error free game last night against Lexington which most people thought wouldn't happen.....should be a great one and GO BEARS!!!

We all knew there would be naysayers whether Greeneville beat Maplewood by 1, 10 or 100. Of course you can say either team could have taken it, of course people are gonna say mistakes, bad play calling etc. are to blame for Maplewood's loss but how bout this? Both teams played their hardest, wanted the win as bad as the other and would be heartbroken with a loss. Bottom line - Devils won because they're a great team who have worked their butts off to get this far and would have settled for nothing less. Is Greeneville the better team? Maybe yes, maybe no - but one thing is for sure - "our will must be stronger than our skill". Maplewood had great athletes with speed, size and strength - congratulations to them on their great season - and as happy as we are for our boys we know how hard it is to make it this far and come up short. But someone has to win and Greeneville plans to finish. Our boys were great sports during and after the game, as were the fans on both sides. All Greeneville has heard all week is how Maplewood is in "the 'hood", gotta go through metal detectors to get into the stadium, better stay off the home side, etc.- Maplewood is a group of boys who love football and want to win just like any other team, with a community behind them who were nothing less than respectful (ok their announcer was a bit comical but hey it is their house)and I'm sure as proud of their players today as we are of ours. Thanks for the support from the other East TN schools and good luck to Alcoa as well - there will be many Greeneville fans at Alcoa's game in Cookeville on Friday rooting their fellow East TN school on and hopefully the same from Alcoa for us on Saturday as we bring 2 gold balls back to our area. DEVILS LETS FINISH AND SHUT THE NAYSAYERS UP!! WE CAN AND WILL DO THIS!! GO BIG GREENE!!

Getting back to the turf will definitely benefit GVille. Sloppy field conditions at Maplewood really took them out of their comfort zone and slowed their spread attack. Smart move late in the forth by going to a two back set and pounding the rock for first downs and running the clock. They should be the favorite to hoist the Gold ball next week for 4A.

The Devils beat a good team last night. The Panthers had some good athletes and great size, esp #78 and #54 (who put a real hurtin on that maroon jersey)...#26 RB and #1 WR were real good looking athletes as well. #20 RB/FS was their best overall player--a gutsy and quick little playmaker.

Despite being very athletic, Maplewood was one-dimensional w/absolutely no passing game. In the 3rd quarter, they took the kickoff and drove inside the 15 with several big runs, but for some reason decided to throw a short pass (The only pass attempt for them the 2nd half) to the twins receiver side which was picked off. The wrs were both bunched together and looked as confused as the qb that made the awful throw. With #1 towering at 6-5 or 6-6, it was surprising that they never tried a jump ball. After that play, I believe it was the PA announcer, stepped out of the press box and yelled a few times down to the coaches on the sideline to "Run the ball." Interesting sight to see.

I am sure, like most Memphis teams, Trezevant is very athletic and this will cause the Devil offense some problems. The Bears better have size to go along with the speed or it will not be a game. That being said, I think GVille toughness and experience will be the edge.

    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
    • Hopefully you’re not signing off for good. There are a lot of Oak Ridge fans that appreciate your comments.
    • Florida tried urban/rural split two years ago. 4 urban classes, 4 rural classes. Didn’t work. Next year they will have 7 regular classes, 1 urban class for small schools only.
