Here's another preseason poll from Nashville and gives details about each team.I like this poll a lot better. It looks to be more realistic and has Lake Co a notch above Union City..lol

After countless hours of research and discussions with coaches from across the state, I’m releasing my Class 1A Preseason Top 10.

Nothing has changed since the Spring Top 10 but also in this preview is a list of the Top 20 games involving 1A teams, a Top 10 list of the schools with the most playoff appearances and a list of the most Class 1A state titles.

Enjoy.

Preseason Top 10

10. Sunbright Tigers

Spring ranking- 10

Last Season’s Record- 8-3, lost in 2nd round to Copper Basin

District- 4-A, finished 2nd in 2010

Head Coach- Scott Stephens

Key Returnees- Jessie England (QB, Sr., 2,204 passing yards), Derek Miller (K/P, Sr.), Austin Webb (OL/NG, Sr.), Billy Hunter (WR, Sr.), Timmy Turner (WR, Sr.), Dave Henes (WR, Sr.), Skyler Bunch (RB, Fr.)

Key Losses- Issac Hueling (OL), L.C. Satterfield (WR), Shawn Wilson (RB/LB), Sean Boling (OL), Lucas Brock (LB)

Spring Star- Skyler Bunch. The freshman running back turned heads so much in spring practice that now coach Scott Stephens calls Bunch a “Special†player that can help take Sunbright to the next level.

2011 Schedule- Aug.19-Jackson Co.; August 26- Copper Basin; Sept 2-Coalfield; Sept 9-OPEN; Sept. 16-Jellico; Sept. 23-@Stone Memorial; Sept. 30-@ King’s Academy; Oct. 7- Oakdale; Oct. 14-@Oliver Springs; Oct. 21-@Oneida; Oct. 28-@Wartburg

Analysis- Sunbright has a very limited playoff history and the farthest the Tigers have ever been has been the second round in 2009. With senior quarterback Jesse England back and Austin Webb controlling the line, the Tigers are poised to take the next step.

9. Coalfield Yellow Jackets

Spring ranking- 9

Last Season’s Record- 10-3, lost in Semifinals to South Pittsburg

District- 4-A, finished 1st in 2010

Head Coach- Keith Henry

Key Returnees- Cody Hill (QB, Sr., 2,000 yards passing), Anthony Wilkins (WR, Sr., 75 catches, 1,200 receiving yards), Shane Ashley (OL/DL, Sr.), Benson Napier (OL, Soph.), Chris Henes (OL, Jr.), Zach Stewart (OL, Fr.), Addison Bible (RB, Fr.), Brady Walls (RB, Soph.)

Key Losses- Zach Moore (OL), Forrest Adkisson (RB), Tyler Walls (TE), Luke Jackson (OL/DL)

Spring Star- Addison Bible. The freshman running back had such a good spring that he put himself in the backfield along with sophomore running back Brady Walls.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 19-@Pigeon Forge; Aug. 26-Cloudland; Sept. 2-@Sunbright Sept. 9- Tellico Plains; Sept. 16-@Oliver Springs; Sept. 23-OPEN; Sept. 30-Wartburg; Oct. 7-@Jellico;

Oct. 14-Oneida; Oct. 21-Cosby; Oct. 28- Oakdale

Analysis- The Yellow Jackets made the semifinals for the second time in school history, the other time was 2004. Coalfield brings back two big weapons in quarterback Cody Hill who passed for over 2,000 yards last year and his favorite target in wide receiver Anthony Wilkins (75 catches, 1,200 receiving yards). With those weapons the sky’s the limit for Coalfield again this year.

8. Nashville Christian Eagles

Spring ranking- 8

Last Season’s Record-9-3, lost in 2nd round to Wayne County.

District- 10-A, finished 2nd in 2010

Head Coach- Jeff Brothers

Key Returnees- Sam Cooper (DE, Sr.,), Taylor Shelton (WR, Sr.), Hunter Pearce (DL, Sr.), C.J. Cameron (QB, Sr.), Ryan Young (QB, Soph.), Zach Stephens (RB, Jr.), Joe Whelan (LB, Sr.), Daniel Pierce (LB, Jr.), Brandon McCoy (RB, Sr.), Trent Mueller (LB, Soph.), Hayden Mueller (LB, Sr.), Lee Dreaden (OL/LB, Sr.)

Key Losses- Thomas Knobloch (WR/FS/K), Matt Ogle (QB), Nick Weiss (RB), John Sneed (LB), Parker Jones (LB)

Spring Star- Lee Dreaden. The Senior newcomer who hasn’t played football since his freshman year showed a lot of versatility and the coaches have him penciled in at offensive line and linebacker a need position for the Eagles.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 19-@Middle Tennessee Christian; Aug. 26-Hillwood; Sept. 2-Clarksville Academy; Sept. 9-Harpeth; Sept. 16-@McEwen; Sept. 23-Lancaster Christian; Sept. 30-OPEN; Oct. 7- East Robertson; Oct. 14-@White House Heritage; Oct. 21-Houston County; Oct. 28-@Jo Byrns

Analysis- The hiring of coach Jeff Brothers last summer gave the Eagles and big shot in the arm and Nashville Christian went 9-3 and finished second in region 10-A. A talented senior class led by defensive end Sam Cooper has the Eagles thinking that the sky is the limit.

7. Union City Tornadoes

Spring ranking- 7

Last Season’s Record- 5-6, lost in 1st round to Bruceton

District- 14-A, finished 4th in 2010

Head Coach- Darren Bowling

Key Returnees- Keylon Hyde (FB/LB, Jr., 1,200 yards rushing), DeAndrez Williams (WR/DB, Sr.), Brett Gore (OL/LB, Jr.), Joseph Shanks (OL/LB, Jr.,), Travis Rutland (QB, Jr.), Keontre Murrell (RB/DB, Jr.), Tymaine Strickland (RB, Soph.), Michael Dysart (OL/DL, Sr.)

Key Losses- Chase Bowling (QB), Trey Maddox (OL/LB), Kelly Scales (OL/DL)

Spring Star- Michael Dysart. The senior lineman not only showed improvement in the spring but also showed great maturity which truly impressed the Union City coaches.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 20-@Obion County; Aug. 26-Wayne County; Sept. 2-@Halls; Sept. 9-@Huntingdon; Sept. 16-Greenfield; Sept. 23-Dresden; Sept. 30-@Peabody; Oct. 7- Lake County; Oct. 14-OPEN; Oct. 21-@South Fulton; Oct. 28-Humboldt

Analysis- The Tornadoes were very young last season and that showed in the team's 5-6 record but great things are expected in 2011. Top playmakers such as RB Keylon Hyde, QB Travis Rutland and WR DeAndrez Williams should make this a bounce back year for Union City.

6. Lake County Falcons

Spring ranking- 6

Last Season’s Record- 9-3, lost in Quarterfinals to Perry County

District- 14-A, finished 2nd in 2010

Head Coach- David Barger

Key Returnees- Rafeal Tyler (ATH, Sr.), Anthony Crawford (DT, Sr.), Ricky Boyd (RB, Sr.), Caleb Bledsoe (WR, Sr.), Caylan Bargary (LB, Jr.), Devon Jones (RB/DB, Jr.), Craig Lewis (LB/OG, Jr.), Justin Kimble (DT/OT, Jr.), Nick Price (QB, Sr.)

Key Losses- Bernard Gauldin (OL/DL), Sam Hayes (QB), Chris Mills (RB/DB), David Keefe (FB/LB), Bo Simmons (OG/DT)

Spring Star- Devon Jones. The junior will be the last line of defense for the Falcons this season, after having a very impressive spring according to Coach David Barger.

2011 Schedule- Aug.19- Murray, KY; Aug.26- @Fulton Co., KY; Sept.2- @Greenfield; Sept.9- Reidland, KY; Sept.16-Trenton-Peabody; Sept.23- @Fulton City, KY; Sept.30- OPEN; Oct.7- @Union City; Oct.14-South Fulton; Oct.21-@Humboldt; Oct.28- Halls

Analysis- The Falcons return of the best players in 1A in Athlete Rafeal Tyler who is dangerous any time he touches the football. Running backs Ricky Boyd and Devon Jones will be able to take pressure of new quarterback Nick Price who played on the offensive line last year.

5. Gordonsville Tigers

Spring ranking- 5

Last Season’s Record- 9-3, lost in Quarterfinal round to South Pittsburg

District- 7-A, finished 2nd in 2010

Head Coach- Ron Marshall

Key Returnees- Tyler Coleman (RB/DB, Sr.), Tyler Coen (DL, Jr.), Peyton Watson (QB/DB, Jr.), Vincent Escobedo (WR/DB, Sr.), Drew Hamlet (QB/DB, Soph.), Jared Randolph (RB/LB, Sr.), J.T. Swaim (OL/DL, Jr.), Brandon McCoy (FB/LB, Jr.), Noah King (FB/DE, Jr.), Colby Deadmon (C, Sr.), Spencer Pritchett (OL/DL, Sr.), Patrick Langster (DE, Sr.)

Key Losses- Cody Woodmore (RB, 1,463 yards rushing), Chaz Smith (930 rushing yards, 953 passing yards), Nic Gillespie (DT), Brad Fitts (WR/DE), Chasen Williams (P), Zach Campbell (LB)

Spring Star- Colby Deadmon. The senior offensive lineman had a great spring and has settled in at center for the Tigers.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 19- OPEN; Aug. 26- Smith County; Sept. 2- @Friendship Christian; Sept. 9- @Trousdale County; Sept. 16- Monterey; Sept. 23- Jackson County; Sept. 30- @RBS; Oct. 7- @Westmoreland; Oct. 14- @Watertown; Oct. 21- Clay County; Oct. 28- Pickett County

Analysis- The Tigers finished 2nd in district 7-A last season and this season Gordonsville should be even better with junior Peyton Watson running the offense at quarterback and running backs Tyler Coleman and Jared Randolph toting the football.

4. Wayne County Wildcats

Spring ranking- 4

Last Season’s Record- 10-2, lost in Quarterfinal round to Jo Byrns

District- 11-A, finished 2nd in 2010

Head Coach- Rick Rice

Key Returnees- Austin Rice (QB, Sr., 51 catches, 878 receiving yards, 15 TDs), Haden Skelton (RB/WR, Sr.), Clint Butler (RB, Sr. 771 yards rushing, 11 TDs), Nick Horton (RB/LB, Sr.), Boston Ray (OL, Sr.), Micah Pyle (RB/DB, Sr.), Peyton Mathis (WR/DB, Sr.), Dakota Willis (OL/DL, Sr.), Sheyenne Reeves (OL/DL, Sr.), Daniel Rumbaugh (OL/DL, Sr.), Logan Self (C, Sr.), Andrew Compton (OL/DL, Sr.), Zach Clayton (OLB, Sr.); Nate Powell (LB/TE, Sr.)

Key Losses- Tyler Rice (QB, Class A Mr. Football Back winner, 2,011 yards passing, 33 TDs), Jacoby Brewer (OL), Lucas Pippenger (TE), Drew Bevis (WR), Jansen Bratcher (OL/DL), Dalynn Teeftaller (OL/DL).

Spring Star- Logan Self. The Wayne County coaches were concerned about the center position but Self’s spring was so good that Coach Ricky Rice considers the position strength now.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 19- Moore County; Aug. 26- @Union City; Sept. 2- Mt. Pleasant; Sept. 9- @Cascade; Sept. 16- @ Loretto; Sept. 23- OPEN; Sept. 30- Columbia Academy; Oct. 7- Cornersville; Oct. 14-@ Collinwood; Oct. 21- @ Richland; Oct. 28- Perry County

Analysis- The Wildcats will have to replace Mr. Football Back of the year Tyler Rice who was a four year starter and is now at UT-Martin. At quarterback this season will be little brother Austin Rice who is a better athlete then Tyler was and with Wayne County’s first four games are brutal so Rice will have to grow up fast.

District- 11-A, finished 1st in 2010

Spring Star- Andrew Mathis. Mathis had a great spring which gives senior quarterback Jacob tucker yet another weapon. Mathis didn’t catch a pass last season but made 28 tackles from his linebacker position.

2011 Schedule-Aug. 19- @ Forrest; Aug. 26- Lewis County; Sept. 2- @Cornersville; Sept. 9- @Riverside; Sept. 16- Collinwood; Sept. 23- OPEN; Sept. 30- Richland; Oct. 7- @Columbia Academy; Oct. 14- Mt. Pleasant; Oct. 21- Loretto; Oct. 28- @Wayne County

Analysis- Perry County had a great season last year reaching the semifinals and this year could be the year of the Viking. Quarterback Jacob Tucker (4,633 yards of total offense) returns to lead a high octane offense and has a ton of playmakers around him.

Spring Star- Quency Neblett. The senior wide receiver stepped his game up considerably during the spring and the Red Devils will need his play making ability in the passing game to get back to Cookeville for a shot at a state title.

2011 Schedule- Aug. 19- @Macon County; Aug. 26- Cascade; Sept. 2- @East Robertson; Sept. 9- Humboldt; Sept. 16-White House Heritage; Sept. 23- Cheatham County; Sept. 30- @Houston County; Oct. 7- OPEN; Oct. 14- Clarksville Academy; Oct. 21- @McEwen ;Oct. 28- Nashville Christian

Analysis- The Winningest Team last decade returns senior quarterback Brandon Adkins, running back Frankie Traughber and wide receiver Quincy Neblett off their Class 1A state runner up team. The Red Devils also beefed up their non-district schedule as well by adding Class 2A schools Cascade and Humboldt.

Analysis- The Pirates return a ton of weapons and are coming off their fifth Class 1A state title team. Sophomore running back JaJuan Lankford is being called the next great Pirate back and Demetric Johnson and Antonio Chubb are blazers and can score anytime they touch the football.

No I don't know if you've beat us or not. I just remember going all the way to Union City last year to watch yall play your 1st Round play off game because the winner came to play us in Round 2. We were told that Union City was something special cause they were the defending state champs. But instead I ended up going all the way to Union City to see a horrible display of Highschool Football. I just hope yall have improved since the last time I saw you play or you might get beat by more than just those 3 teams.

I couldnt agree more about your analysys of that game. But make no mistake about itThat horrible display is not how we do things on a regular basis. We lost the entire team from the 2009 championship season with the exception of 3 players. @ of which werer strters. That team that was on the field had 2 seniors starting and 3 jumiors . Most of the team was made up of freshman and sophmores. We sucked . No doubt about it. We will make a serious run for it this year. But next year im betting on Cookeville.

Macon county will EASILY be the toughest game on JB`s schedule, and the first loss of the season for the red devils.

I can't wait to find out. The White House in a jamboree then Macon Co. in Week 0 is a tough row to hoe to start 2011 for this little ol' 1A team.
