I left at half time last night and it was CG 29 Cloudland 24. Probably the worst half of high school basketball I've seen cloudland play in 12 years. 1st quarter 8 fouls and 8 points. I know you can't judge a season by one game but if they don't play any better, they will be sitting in the cellar in this conference. I felt myself being tranferred back into the late nineties. I had to pinch myself a couple times. Almost thought I was 20 years old again. :P

Cloudland will be fine, CG always seems to put a solid team on the floor, so there's no shame in that loss..

Unaka played the best ball I've seen them play since 2006 in spurts on Thursday, jumped out to like like a 15 point lead in the 12st qrt. But Crockett started to pound it inside, they weren't huge, but they were very very strong. Post play will probably be the Ranger's Achilles heel this year. They play hard down low, they just don't have the size.. I was pretty impressed with the guard play though. Always moving on offense, and they play pressure D... Spencer Nave needs to stay out of foul trouble though; the offense seems to play in a whole other gear when he is out there at the point.

Alex, I used to drink alot during basketball season in the late nineties and it wasn't just because I'm an irishman either. We suked so bad the floor was starting to come up in places. Thats how we looked last night. You can definitely tell that Hyden and Potter are no longer on the floor. This team will have to grow up in a hurry if they are going to keep the tradition of the 2000's going. They have to learn to press hard without committing all the silly fouls. Unaka however is starting to look like the Creeker teams of the early 2000's. I guess its all coming full circle again. Thats the way life is; its full of ups and downs.

Got a buddy up in those parts and they said that the cg team was the same as last year (none graduated). It was the same team that Potter and Hyden went into OT with, so must not be too bad of a showing. Heard the shooting percentage was real low. Two points is not that bad, or is it? I guess a loss is a loss though.

cloudland will be fine. the officials called lots of fouls on both teams. officials that call everything doesnt suit cloudlands style very well. i would have to say they called the game consistantly but i have never seen refs call a game that tight. i think they may have called a couple of fouls on us for breathing on the other team. but like i said they called it on both teams.

Just hope the boys will get back in the gym and work hard. We can't afford to have any bad shooting nights because we don't have any beef inside. Thats where we got beat up the other night. Its just the first game though.

I look for this to be a very interesting season.

I hope the paper doesnt blow-up any heads too big for these Hampton players (The STAR is great at dong that!).

As KING, B&G and '91Lander says, last year's team was one of the best to ever come outta Hampton, and that says alot! This year's bunch is young and has alot to learn, so they need to keep their heads on straight!

Hughes was a good player because he had some of the best "position" players in 1-2A on the floor with him....I hope Hampton can deliver the same kinda supporting cast with the bunch, 'cause the road to the boro is alot harder than many know.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
