WesVLT
Below is the projected playoff bracket if the DII-AA playoffs were starting Friday. Where teams are tied and have not played, I projected the winner based on common opponents. TOP HALF 1W MUS BYE 4W Briarcrest 5EM McCallie 2EM Baylor BYE 3W Christian Brothers 7EM MBA BOTTOM HALF 1EM Brentwood Academy BYE 4EM BGA 6EM Father Ryan 2W St. Benedict BYE 3 EM Ensworth 8 EM Pope John Paul II Edited October 10, 2011 by WesVLT
Chattcity
I'm sure Baylor would like to see BA and Ensworth in the same bracket
shakinthefat
So there are 7 teams in the East/Middle region and 2 byes for top 2 teams. There are 4 teams in the West region and 2 byes for the top 2 teams. Wouldn't it be fair to give the E/M region 3 byes and the West region just one bye? A west team could get a bye with a 2 and 2 win/loss record. A E/M team could go 5 and 1 and could have to play the 1st round. Better yet....only 2 teams from the west should be eligible for playoffs and 4 teams from the E/M eligible to qualify for playoffs. This "let everyone in playoffs" is not a good setup. I believe it effects teams and coaches in the regular season. The teams need a goal to try and achieve during the regular season. Without the playoff reward goal, teams tend to play differently. (IMO) But the T$$AA loves the extra playoff money ($10 admission,I think) so lets play as many games as possible. Then in December lets make DII teams play the championship on a Thursday and give the weekend dates to DI. Those folks from Chattanooga and Memphis shouldn't mind taking a couple of days off from work to go to game. Hey TSSAA - How about rotating the weekend championship dates every year between DII and DI? Edited October 10, 2011 by shakinthefat

The money issue is the driving force on a lot of really bad decisions, starting with the idea that a relatively small state can somehow justify 8 state champions. And the whole idea of a state championship from a pool of 11 teams is beyond ludicrous.

Would hate to see the buzzards in the finals again.

If you are a bad team don't you just want the season to be over rather than having to play a BA, Ensworth, or Baylor a second time? Your 6 team scenario makes a lot of sense and I would have the championship game November 17th (somewhere other than Cookeville). Many of these kids wrestle or play basketball so would benefit those athletes.
WesVLT
Since DII-AA is one of the deepest leagues in the state, I propose allowing 8 teams into the playoffs -- 5 from East/Middle and 3 from the West. That places a premium on the regular season, cuts out the worst teams and still allows the top seed a relatively easy first game, depending on the depth of the league in a given year. Not only is the current format watered down, but it also uses a disproportionate bye system.
landro
I dont know which bracket youre using but the 4w 5e should be in the bottom half and the 4e 6e should be in the top according to tssaa.org brackets. also, mba has no chance at being 7 when they already beat father ryan. they will be 5 or 6 depending on if they beat mccallie or not. Thus, for now, Ryan is the higher seed.

With LSU and Alabama looming in the next two weeks, UT's players and coaches are touting Matt Simms' experience and leadership.
