Ok. First off.. Some house cleaning business... Regardless of how it may have appeared to some, Troll is in NO WAY the "canary" that I am talking about that is leaking information. The "canary" has been mentioned by name in several media reports. Hope this helps.

Secondly, what's this mess about not being able to pass the Gateways in Georgia? All Tennessee Seniors, class of 2012, (which this kid is a member of)must pass Algebra I, English II and Biology Gateways in order to receive their regular ed diploma. It's not until the Juniors, class of 2013, that the rules change to where the End of Course (EOC) exams count as 25% of the final course grade and theoretically do not have to be passed to get the credit for the course. Does this mean that SMMHS Seniors are not meeting the minimum State requirements of passing those 3 Gateway exams or what exactly are they saying about the "more help" that is given at SMMHS?

Thirdly: I have only read the account that Hargis had online at TFP from within the procedings, but my take is that SMMHS didn't do enough to win over a complete reversal of the penalty. I still believe that they may give back two wins as sort of a peace offering for the delay, which TSSAA still contends was valid.

I hope Troll's and Smeagle's wallets are deep because SMMHS is gonna need it...

who said TROLL was the canary.........The canary is a 'chip' off the old block

Jumped by who? 6'4 and 250, are you serious? Kid should never had hardship ruling, should have went to Sale Creek or Ooltewah, or was he scared of those kids too? I wish no ill will toward SM, but this has got to get under control. If it does not, look out.

You have said, the kid should have never had a hardship ruling...I thank your right all the stuff that I have heard..has been blow way out of line.....To try to make SM look like the good guy....look what we did for this poor little kid.......What the tssaa should been looking into is how he got the hardship in the first place.......Shane coach at SM and your HCDE broad person

I agree 100%! It really doesn't matter at this point if SM wins or loses the appeal. The bar has been set. No one will ever look at that school the same again. Remember the OJ case, he was proven innocent but in the public eye he was no doubt guilty as charged! Just because some technicality gets you off the hook doesn't mean that it was right. Dirty politics and back door deals to get athelets elligible to play sports needs to be gotten under control. I would be willing to bet that there isn't one person, that isn't a SM fan, could look at the facts of this case and not see foul play. And the "scared of the other students" excuse is absolutely absurd. Whatever the decision, just remember SM, that the leaders of your school made this bed so the fan base will just have to sleep in it!!

I'll sleep fine at night idiot!

TSSAA Panel Deliberating Appeal By Signal Mountain High

posted October 20, 2011

Members of a TSSAA panel on Thursday were deliberating an appeal by Signal Mountain High School of a ruling that the football team must forfeit six wins this season.

The deliberation came after the six-member panel heard three hours of testimony.

The decision is expected to go to Signal Mountain High School Principal Dr. Tom McCullough.

Those addressing the board included player Tim McClendon, who was ruled ineligible, and his mother.

It was testified that he attended Brainerd High School only one day because he said he was "jumped" by several students there.

School officials said they acted correctly in handling the transfer and had a "hardship" ruling from county school officials.

The length of the testimony and length of deliberations point to the extenuating circumstances of this case which have not been appreciated by most posters on this board - both the haters and boosters. No matter what the outcome, I hope Tim McClendon gets to continue his academic and athletic career at the next level.

Great post takedown, some of us hope the same thing for Tim!

possum, Coach J, hatr1234, lancer10

You all must just be plain stupid. He was a Freshman when he was at Brainerd so yes a Freshman could easily have been jumped by 5 guys. Plus this incident was supported by the Brainerd principle.

It’s amazing that grown people get pleasure out of coming on here and attacking this kid. I’m fair game feel free to come attack me. But getting some thrill out of attacking this kids story just shows what kind of people you are.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
