ihave nothing to do with van buren co. or warren co. i am from white co. i went to a game there last year and ther was a guy in a gorilla suit. so this isn't the first time they have dressed up. i asked a vb fan y he was dressed up in a gorilla suit and he said he had no idea. just wanted to straighten that up. now racial slurs happen all the time at vb.it's just gonna happen in a little redneck town like spencer. i have also heard racial slurs at cookeville and shelbyville b4. so it does happen. not like it used to but it does. i'm sure warren co. coach thought they wer gonna go in there and kill em. he got mad cause they wer beating them and the crowd was fired up. van buren co. boys are very good for a single a team. they may go to state this year. anyway that's my 2 cents.

"Yert." Now that is hilarious. Only if you know something about White County would that mean anything to anyone. I think someone should make up T-Shirts with "Yert" on the front them and then sell them at the front door of the White County gym. Nothing insulting intended as I have several friends from White County and they told me story behind the word "Yert." Ha ha, needed a good laugh to start the morning.

I would encourage everyone to read the Southern Standard article today. Once you have read that then go over to the Tennessean website and read their article on this past fridays events. From oneside you are getting a consistent view that being the Van Buren Co side. From WC the story changes from one article to the next. This whole thing started with the Coach was called a racial slur. Now he and the WC folks with him are trying to sell the VB players were slurring the WC players. He also got upset and finally just had enough with the costumes wore by 2 students. Now facts have came to light that these student dress up like this during bball season at homes games. I know punishments have been handed down, but still cant understand how people from WC cant see their coach just threw in towel. He quit. He walked off floor and seems to change his version of story with whatever day of week it is. No one on this site or anywhere else has said anything about a player being racially slurred during game, but I bet since this new revelation has hit the folks from WC will say" I talked to player and he said it was going on and they were all over us." You know just like 4changes had talked to Montgomery and he knew all facts. Seems like it would serve everyone if the coach just stepped up to plate and said I blew it I made mistake I should not have walked off floor. You are taking away from a game the way was played by throwing VB kids under the bus with no factual basis other than to try to save face. Just a shame. I believe WC school board should have stuck with their suspension of Coach Montgomery. Those men and women have to be smart enough to know when the story changes daily then the facts are not being given. He did not represent WC school system in a positive way with his actions. Coaches are held to higher stander. They all know this. I hope the WC leadership understands this as well moving forward.

I do applaud the Southern Standard for taking the stand they did in editorial that was written. Teams dont quit. You guys at the Standard got it right this time.

I drove in from chattanooga that night to see the game, with van buren being the high school I attended a few years ago. I was disappointed for the fact that I did not get to see the real out come of that amazing game. I never did hear any racial slurs that night, but I am not saying that it did not happen, it probably did. I do however recall, when warren county was being escorted out of the gym one of their players did fly his "bird" middle finger up towards crowd in the bleachers. That is a fact I seen it with my own eyes, but overall the portion of the game we all got to see was amazing. I would also like to give an applause to coach dustin sullivan in the way he held his character in the uproar of events. ;.)

Was the player that flipped a "bird" one of WC's black players because I saw that to was standing right beside the girl that grab his arm and called him f#$@#$ N---- and he did flip a bird to her when she done that. Just wondering if that's what your talking about. I saw that with my own eyes too.

It's pretty obvious you are against WC and Coach M but TSSAA did not suspend him nor did Warren County. Quite frankly, I don't think they would care what anyone else has to say about it. They were fined $500.00. As for players being racially discriminated if you will go watch the tapes instead of just assuming what you think happened then you will see that the coach and players were both being discriminated. It is not only Warren County people that "talk to a player" and say something, it is both sides. A Warren County player did flip a bird but apparently racial discrimination is ok compared to flipping someone off. I'm not sure if I were in Coach Montgomery's shoes that I would keep playing risking a fight to happen involving the players. WC leadership is handling this in the right way. All it is now is people putting in their two cents and saying what they would do. It doesn't matter.

indeed it was a black player who made the gesture someone may have grabbed his arm I'm not saying it didn't happen, just that I did not see it, and I was sitting right there 15ft from the incident. The player also was waving the finger up towards the bleachers not to anyone on floor level, but if anything racial was said that was not ok either, but either way it rude and immature especially in front of the kids

I agree I think the whole situation was rude and ignorant. But I do feel like Coach M stopped the game to keep things from getting worse. He is not a coach that is known for quitting. He just thought that was the thing to do at that time. Maybe if WC gets to play VB again in February things will be different and the game will get finished. Until then I don't think people should assume the worse about the Coach. If he is a quitter when WC is down or things gets bad he would have done this long before now it's not like WC wins alot of games. I'm not saying anything bad toward WC ball players or the coach I'm just saying we have been in bad games before (Dekalb CO) and he's not stopped the game.

The good ole T$$AA. Money will make everything alright with them. What a joke of an organization.

i think by wc coach jerking his players off the court and quiting it made erthing worse. that's when the riot started.

You my friend are exactly right the coach's attitude and temper along with grabbing his players and running to the locker room is when the violence ensued and the riot started

I wasn't at the game, and I hate that the game ended, like it did, but, it's time to put this one to bed, and I welcome all the van Burren fans back to mcminnville, We (warren County and Van Burren) are bigger than the few fans, that might have spoiled it for everybody.
