We're losing 12 valuable Seniors. These Seniors went to state three years in a row. That's a lot of experience to replace. But we'll have 16 returning Sophomores and Juniors that were a part of the 2010 championship team, so they have a good idea of what needs to be done. We have 12 Freshmen becoming Sophomores - that's a big step in a boy's life where they change from boys to men. They'll help fill some of the gaps. These Freshmen and Sophomores were also part of Wes's SVC championship team. That experience will help. I fully expect a dozen of Coach Dawkins' 8th graders to make the jump to varsity next year, and at least half of them will be potential play-makers even as Freshmen.

As far as off-season training.....15 of next year's Pirates are playing basketball, and 7 are practicing baseball. A 1A school with three major sports just doesn't have enough guys to dedicate to only one sport to make off-season training practical. However, those that are left are indeed in the weight room.

Our biggest advantage is not losing anyone in the backfield. Our biggest disadvantage is I don't see a clear cut leader among them. Perhaps someone will surface who will be able to put some fire and discipline in this team.

Someone mentioned conditioning a few pages back. These kids don't mow yards, or rake leaves, or ride their bikes, or play sandlot baseball, or back yard basketball, or play weekend football at the Kellermann's cow lot. They don't bale hay, etc. When we played we came in out of the fields. These kids come in off the couch. I make my kids do chores, but it's still nothing compared to when I was a kid. I guess I'm trying to say that conditioning only goes so far....what these kids lack is a work ethic. As parents and fans we need to encourage these kids to think less of self and more of team.

Well, having said all that I still believe we have a great team and a great staff. Our chances of going to state are just as good as before. No predictions....I'm just saying our chances are equal to that of this year's team.

Pirates have one more year to be decent. 2013 is all Marion county! Book it!

Old Pirate says you fellers from Jasvegas has got a heep to worry about. Figure the new coach will bring some new blood but the blood lines run deeper than a coach. Feller simply put it is called proper breeding and stud making. The warriors will be better next year and the year after but then that's about the time the new coach finds out you can't make chicken soup out of chicken poop! Gone take a couple of centuries before the Warriors is likely to be Real Bullies again and since this OP ain't likely goin to be around. Congrats on figuring it out................... :roflol:

That is a good assessment and post. I remember those days of walking up hill both ways in the snow to school with 75 pounds of books.

Kids need to be working out no matter what sport year round...Playing other sports isn't a excuse...Basketball and Baseball players workout too so there goes that theory...Like I said

Playing other sports can expand a player's overall athleticism-agility, quickness, hand-eye coordination. Plus the more times he or she is in pressure situations that games present, the better it can be handled.

The best softball player in the state in my opinion, signed to pitch at Kentucky, also is a basketball standout, had a 40 point game last year and this year is averaging around 18 points, 10 rebounds. She also made the Free Press all-star volleyball team announced this week. I'm sure playing basketball and volleyball helped her advance in softball, too. The same can happen in football if a player can balance all the practices and workouts.

I don't know anything about the current basketball coach. During the Brooks era you could bet the guys could run up and down the court. The first week they would run 5 miles before practice. The second week his guys ran from the gym over to Raulston Town Mtn, up the Mtn, back down, back to the gym and then practiced every day for a week. A lot of the ends and split ends etc. also playted basketball. Guys like Bruce Glenn, Mack Moore, Reggie Allison, Zalmer Chubb could run up and down the court and football field. That was the conditioning required for Brooks' style of play on the court. However, it would translate to the football field even though they were doing it for BB. He was playing that style when Bruce Pearl was whizzing in a diaper.

As long as we have the coaching staff we have we will stay on top. I know that people get on them a lot but the reality is we have one of the best coaching staffs in the state... period.... not just 1 A the whole state... and there is really no need to worry because they will always find a way to put up in a good situation... people think I'm kidding but I'm serious :thumb:

    • A little confused.  What charter/prep schools made it to state in Baseball?
    • Fortuitously encountering Clint amidst the ambience of Goodyear this morning sparked an impromptu yet intellectually stimulating conversation, wherein we engaged in a rigorous assessment of prospective candidates for the esteemed role of head football coach. Our discourse, characterized by its spontaneity and depth, led to the formulation of astute observations and discerning judgments regarding the suitability of various individuals for this pivotal position. Allow me to elucidate the fruits of our collaborative contemplation: This commentary endeavors to offer a discerning articulation of my subjective viewpoint, emphasizing a conscientious commitment to maintaining impartiality and refraining from any semblance of derogation directed towards individuals.  Those who possess meritorious qualifications for the esteemed head coaching role, delineated without hierarchical precedence, include: Rennard Woodmore, an esteemed alumnus of the Yellow Jackets, presents a magnificent pedigree, having held prominent positions in head coaching capacities across various regions. His pivotal role as a coordinator for teams contending for state championships further enhances his stature in the realm of football leadership. Kyle Gregory, erstwhile adorned in the resplendent gold insignia, though lacking direct head coaching experience, brings to the fore his invaluable insights garnered as a coordinator for esteemed teams, showcasing an acute understanding of the requisites for triumph whilst attired in the esteemed purple and gold regalia. Steven Jackson, whose contributions transcended mere clipboard duties under the tutelage of Kevin Creasy, emerges as an exceptional candidate for Trousdale County. His prior tenure and triumphs as an assistant coach underscore his suitability for the role. The sole drawback lies in his lack of affiliation with Trousdale County as an alumnus. Brandon Eden's extensive tenure within the chronicles of Trousdale County football, spanning a significant portion of its State Championships, coupled with his successful stints as a coordinator across diverse locales, underscores his candidacy despite a dearth of direct head coaching experience at the high school level. Davy Cothron, while beset by a modest playing career, has emerged as a luminary in offensive strategy, drawing parallels to the transformative appointment of Barker in 2015, thereby warranting consideration for his proven acumen in this realm. Joshua Hackett, notwithstanding his non-alumnus status, has left an indelible imprint across Middle Tennessee, distinguished by his adept curation of formidable defensive units as a coordinator at Watertown, albeit without direct head coaching experience. Kevin Creasy, the epitome of coaching prowess, merits an offer irrespective of his current inclinations, his unparalleled capacity to secure victories transcending geographical and institutional bounds, potentially extending to a role as Director of Schools should it align with his aspirations. Conversely, individuals who have not demonstrably earned the mantle of head coaching, enumerated without sequential precedence, encompass: Brad Waggoner David Barker Paul Pitts Jeremy Pruitt Clint Satterfield Robbie Atwood Wesley Satterfield Ben Johnson BJ West Whom do you all deem most fitting to assume the mantle of the next coach, and what rationale informs your choice? Conversely, whom do you perceive as ill-suited for the role, and what underpins your reasoning for their exclusion?
    • He's a Clinton fan.  But I wouldn't admit that either.
    • Their any schedule out their for team camp?
    • This sums it all up to perfection.
