Mang was in the finals. Lost a close match for the title. If I remember correctly for some reason he didn't travel with several groups of Tennessee kids who got in the night before , he arrived moments before the scales closed the day of the tournament after being up all night. Pretty much dominated the field, had about 8 matches before the finals and in my opinion simply ran out of gas late in the evening during the championship bout. He was one of the best high school wrestlers in the country at the time.

Wish he wouldn't have thrown it away, would've loved to see how that translated into the next level
