After what must have seem like a lackluster effort against Wartburg.....we travel up to Sneedville. I'd expect the effort has to get ramped back up or the Tribe won't appreciate this trip home this time. My guess is they understand they missed a teams best bullet and the execution will improve this week. CG is a better team and we are known to play to the level of our competition. Which is not a good habit!!!! Lambo pitched a shutout by having his kids in the right places....I expect the offense to perk up before long.

This is a fun part of the year where you can start cross referencing each teams...not that the info really tells you anything, I just enjoy comparing how teams play each other. CG and Oneida both went to Wartburg and won close games. CG did better on offense, Oneida better on defense.

Now the Indians make the long drive up to the Gap, tough place to play. I think the Indians will play much better this week but cant be shooting arrow into the dirt and trees....shoot at the Panther!

Oneida is doing pretty good all things considered (new head coach, new routines, new defense) Getting a victory against Wartburg, ugly or not, really makes a lot of things down the road possible that a loss would have made really hard. Just got to keep getting stronger in focus.

This should be an interesting match up. In the history of this series, CG has always played Oneida tough at CG. Not so much at Oneida. Oneida has probably had the tougher schedule so far so that could serve as an advantage to them. CG has looked good so far this year however, and should be ready to prove something on Friday to the visiting Indians. I expect it to be a close game, possibly even coming down to the last possession. I'll give my nod to CG, simply for the fact that they are playing at home.

Right on Smash.....and lets not beat a dead cow but it was ugly. Most teams will have some of those games and they build your team because they put you in circumstances that otherwise would make you uncomfortable. That last ditch drive Wartburg had last week would have throttled a lesser team. That long catch that kid made was incredibly good....he had the Oneida DB all over him. This group needs to show that they are an experienced bunch....they have more kids that have been to the rodeo and new stuff or not, they need to start showing it. CG is an excellent place to start rolling!!!!!!!

I hope they wait til the following week to find that spark Kaz!! And then have it all the way to Cookeville!! Always a lot of respect for Oneida and their people. Even from the old Powell Valley/Oneida days. This is one of my favorite games of the year and I hope the two teams keep each other on the schedule for a long time. Good OOC rivalry.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
