powellphoto
I know the rule. No linemen downfield on a forward pass, blocking or not, until the pass is completed. That why they drop back to pass block, but I think they are allowed 3 yds, so it may have been iffy there.
rebelscum1998
I never said biased refereeing, I said BAD refereeing. And the kids rushing the field is much different than the fans who were specifically asked to stay off the field. Then asked multiple times to leave the field. White haven won with athleticism. It takes a lot to overcome simply better athletes at most positions. What a game to watch though!!
jake
Very true, just felt like the whitehaven defense was able to defend the run in the 2nd because we weren't threatening with the pass. Felt like we should have thrown on an early down to take advantage of them being in the box. Make them back up and run it down their throats again. WH got out of the 50 in the 2nd quarter and went to 4 man front, and they had more success defending the run. they were getting the safety up to help on the run, and I kept waiting for GQ to fake it to Prevo and hit their slot guy deep, but it never happened. But again, if they don't drop it on the ground twice, they probably score at least one of those drives because they were moving the ball at will on both drives. notredame66
I am not dissing the man. Just saying that I felt he should have opened it up more. He did a good job still, but felt like he could have taken it to whitehaven a bit more through the air. let me ask some MHS fansd or others this question - and no disrespct tp GQ as he is the best of the best - but.... MHS scores in OT why not go for the 2 pt conversion in OT ( i mean he attempted in regulation ) My thing as too why MHS should have went for the 2 pt conversion in OT is : Dahaven or Dodson was running the ball at will on MHS and if they scored we all knew Dahaven was gonna go for 2 pts - I mean why not - you have a D1 recruit and one of the best backs in the state - the way he wasa running tonight you know they are gonna go for the win and put it all on Dodson..... They did and the best team won
rebelscum1998
Is there a forward progress rule in high school? I can't wait to watch the film of the Shuler fumble early. From the stands it looked as if he was pushed back 4 yards before the strip. We were in the red zone too. That's a big blown call, if it was blown. rebelscum1998
I saw more than one bad call on both sides of the field tonight, but to say the refs decided this game is a ridiculous stretch at best and absolute lunacy at worst. Maryville had 47 other minutes and a full overtime to win the game. That's the bottom line. I agree. I don't think there was biased refereeing, just poor overall. Bad clock management, no flow. It reminded me of '08 when we had like 6 delay of game penalties because the clock operators. I think its an embarrassment to the TSSAA to have such poor refereeing in the state title game in your biggest division. Why isn't the best of the best crew out there?? Once again, what a great game. Congrats to white haven. Safe trip to Memphis.
MudDawg
Agree, probably scored one of the drives. After they brought up the safety the running game slowed alot. Would have liked to have seen them air it at a little more.

I'm not suggesting that the wrong team necessarily won. Whitehaven made plenty of plays to win the game. I mean no disrespect to the Tigers or their title. Well earned and deserved. The two pt conversion to win the game is plenty to claim the win and celebrate the championship. My fuss is with grown men that can't do their job and are in a position of influencing a State Final contest and don't know what they are doing. I've got the thing on paused on my television. There is no lineman anywhere close to being downfield...been doing this for a long long time. That man ought to have to answer to his superiors, to the coaches and public for his incompetence. rebelscum1998
I thought it was a good call watching on tv. Ah. Yeah like I said from the stands, and IF it was blown. Looking forward to watching the film to see if the poor refereeing (on both sides) was as bad as I thought

I agree there. After the running into the holder call on the extra point the ref says " running into the holder, 15 yard penalty, first down." I thought, this guy is nuts! MJ0625
Horrible call on 2 pt. Maryville should have been up by one but DaHaven might have actually kicked a fg in regulation to win it any way. Both teams played a great game. The refs were horrible to both teams, that was a disgrace
