District 3AAA

Carolina, you asked me awhile back to give my two cents on Powell before the season began. To be honest, I didn't know what to make of this team because I really didn't see a go-to guy on the roster. I figured they would be in the top half of the district, but beyond that, I really didn't know. The Panthers are very well coached, and they are well-rounded with a number of key contributors, which makes them tough to defend. Long way to go, but I still think that Powell, OR, Halls, and Karns are all pretty good ball clubs, and they are all pretty even right now. Just look at Karns - 3 losses (Powell, Halls, OR) by a combined 5 points.

It'll be interesting to see how these 4 teams perform after Christmas.

Yea your right. WELL COACHED!!!! Fundamentally sound, unselfish, Patient, etc... That all goes back to coaching. I agree those are the best 4 teams right now, with Campbell Co. leading the second pack. I thought it was OR and then the rest fighting it out for 2-9, but I have to say, I still am going with OR, then Powell, then its still open for 3-9.

Its prolly Halls, Karns and CC, then I dont know about the bottom four. Maybe HVA, Clinton, Central, AC. Some of it will take shape after the first of the year im sure.

OR and Halls have definatley played the easiest district schedule, with Karns the toughest, already playing OR, Halls, and Powell. So karns could start a run of district wins, with Halls having to play OR twice, Powell twice, and CC twice. Powell will have to play Halls twice, and Karns and OR once more. Maybe a team like CC or HVA can take advantage and sneak into one of these top 4 spots?

Man, after writing this it occoured to me that theres alot of good Ball to go.

Ive seen them all now and Central and AC are in bad shape right now, not gonna say they cant win, but its unlikely they beat any of the top 4. HVA should be winning MORE!!!

Powell really played great the other night. I was proud of them. It could have been a little closer at the end especially if OR had hit their FTs, but OR could also have gotten blown out.

Powell is a good team without any real stars. They are a tough match-up because they have three or four kids who can really handle the ball well. That makes them hard to press and also hard to defend in the half court because they are really solid fundamentally and patient.

Looking forward to the Powell/Halls game on January 4.

mocs30, you are right. OR was able to turn them over a few times with the press, but they were very patient. That is the key to breaking the press. Even when breaking it, if the fast break wasn't there they pulled back and got into their offense. I don't really remember seeing them rush any shots. Also they had very good ball movement at the end of the game, not allowing OR to trap them. They are very well coached team. It going to be interesting come tournement time, with all the good teams.

Yep. Powell is the kind of team that can probably beat just about anybody, but they could also get beat up on the wrong night. Since Halls is supposedly improved over the past few years, the Battle of Emory Road should be exciting this year again for the first time since about 2007.

Thank you Powell! lol

I'm getting tired of saying, "yeah, Clinton plays them tough", I want a win dang it! Clinton played their worst game against Powell, I just thought they were off, maybe Powell is pretty good.

Travel to Campbell County tonight, and yeah, Clinton played them tough the first game, but looks like they have improved. We will see.

So here is my Wed morning commentary of the Halls AC game last night. Halls started the game in 5th gear, Stetson was hitting his shots. AC was not. Def was good and by the end of the 1st it was 18-2 Halls, and everyone thought it was gonna be a long night for AC. Randy decided to pull most of the starters for the start of the 2nd and IT ALL FELL APART FROM THERE!

Now I understand pulling back once the lead gets big, and getting minutes from your bench against a starting 5. BUT, we lost all of our momentum and went on damage control the rest of the night.

We play central again Thurs night at home, I hope we get on the gas and stay aggressive.

That is all.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
