STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FAVORITES AAA/AA/A

In AAA I would let someone take the rest of the field as long as I could take Riverdale and/or Science Hill. I firmly believe the Gold ball will be held by one of those two teams. Even if there is an upset say in the Region Finals by someone like Blackman I’ll still take Riverdale to be there in the end. Science Hill should cruise to Murfreesboro. The only dark horse I would see would be Memphis Central, Nina Davis is that good.

This might be the bracket to watch in Murfreesboro. It is wide open in AA in my opinion with no clear cut favorite IMO. Grainger has been rolling this year and is the only team that might be considered a favorite, but with no recent experience in

Murfreesboro I wouldn’t consider them a favorite. McMinn Central a team with plenty experience in Murfreesboro and a recent state title would be right there as well. But I believe they are a number of teams that could beat either but with the most of the “number of teams†being concentrated in 2 Regions. I would put the winner of Region 4-AA and the winner of Region 7-AA whomever is left standing in those two brutal Regions could easily make a run to a Gold ball. That’s not to mention the defending state champ CPA or Macon County that has a recent runner-up finish; if either makes it to the Glass House they would be capable. I expect a lot of close ball games in AA.

Single A is not as wide open as AA and not as clear cut as AAA. I think I would take 4 teams and let someone else take the field, in no particular order Union City, Jackson County, Summertown and Cosby. I really think the Gold ball is between those 4 teams. Of course, some of those mentioned Cosby/Summertown have to make sure they don’t slip up between now and getting to Murfreesboro.

Don't forget about 13 AA. It' very brutal. Ask Obion. They lost 1 player off of last year's State Runner-Up Team and I have them going down in the Region. Keep your eyes on Westview if they get past Obion or Bolivar which I think they will. Very tall and athletic. Got inside and outside game. Not a lot of TO's and have Boro experience.

Winner of Region 4-AA, McMinn Central and Macon could make a run. Grainger is one of the most dominant AA teams I've seen in a while. I honestly believe that they would've still been undefeated had they played in a district like 8-AA this year. I'm excited to get too see them again if they make it.

This the same Grainger that was so dominate last year 31-2 and couldn't get out of sub-state?!? We will see.....I'll give the props if they do. They would not be undefeated in 8-AA! I'd bet my life on that! They may win it all but they wouldn't cakewalk through 8-AA.

Have you watched them? Did you realize they've played most of the season with their best player hurt? I can promise you that Graingers bigs would run any 8-AA off the floor, including Sells and they're best player is their point guard. I'm not one to taking picks over 8-AA lightly, but I've seen Grainger three times and they're the real deal.

8-AA is still, and is always good, but definitely no powerhouse teams like in the past, and not one that could beat Grainger without me considering it a huge upset.

McMinn Central could make a run at the title. Losing one of their top players for the year hurt pretty bad. If she plays I think there would be no doubt at another title. But they still may have enough firepower to bring home another Gold Ball. Still a long way to go but I would presume Morgan and Young will have their troops ready for battle.

Not to be argumentative, but I don't see Grainger as being a "dominant" team. I've seen them in three games, and I'll credit them on being a good team, but dominant??? Looking at their schedule, their District isn't all that strong, so maybe SportsWatcher931's post above about them going 31-2 last season, but losing in substate, is indicative of the teams they played last year and have played this year?

I'm not stating that Grainger won't go to state, but the competition there in Murfreesboro won't be anything like what Grainger has played against this season. Regardless, I'm wishing them well and will gladly say I was wrong if they dominate state.

Does Central have the supporting cast that can step up and take over if teams stop Masengil?
